What's Life Like in New York City?

It’s interesting Tampa that my curiosity was based on the long lines I saw each morning outside of a small shop. Today I saw this article on line.

This 34-Year-Old Quit His Engineering Job to Open a Bakery in New York City—Now, It Brings in $128,000 a Month

Fantastic move & I wish those fired from Twitter would do the same.

On Saturday afternoon, I was on a walking tour of Greenwich Village. The theme of the walk was New York City in the 1960’s where the counter culture movement included poetry, protest and the music scene of folk, rock and alternative music. The Fillmore East is long gone. In fact it became a gay disco in the 1980’s called The Saint. The building today is a bank but there is a commemorative plaque and a pole showing the names of many of the iconic acts that played the Fillmore.

Many of the clubs from the sixties are still open in one form or another and iconic Washington Square Park has been the center of Greenwich Village activity for well over one hundred years. Here are some of the sites of Greenwich Village from Saturday November 19, 2022

And of course Greenwich Village is the home of the gay liberation movement much focused around Sheridan Square on Christopher Street where the original Stonewall Inn stood. There is signage for the new Stonewall Visitor Center scheduled to open in 2024. And we have the gay sculptures in the park right in the square. I also took a pic of The Monster bar on that corner where I used to hang out, which is still a gay bar today.

And a shot of Gay Street which was there before gay meant gay. lol

Thanks, I use to take the subway down there for my "gay visits".

It works the other way as well, as I've seen historic former bank buildings turned into restaurants and clubs. I'm all for maintaining historic architecture in some form even if different from the original business model intended.

Amazing how many of your trees are retaining their leaves! I live only an hour driving time to your northeast, and my leaves are totally gone! I guess the big city generates more warmth for the trees!

It’s hard to remember from one year to the next, as to the dates that stuff happened in previous years. But I do recall always hearing that autumn peaks earlier the further north of New York City that you go. But when I went out this morning to do my morning errands, I was struck by how pretty some of the trees still are here in late November, and so I took the pics and felt compelled to share.

Today I visited Manhattan looking for Christmas decorations and the city is definitely starting to look a lot like Christmas. I met my friend who likes to explore with me and we hit many spots including Macy’s, The new Moynihan Train Station, and the new man made neighborhoods of Manhattan West and Hudson Yards. It was fun and I hope to go back to Rockefeller Center and the Fifth and Sixth Avenue area in the coming weeks. :xmas2smiley:

I look forward to your pictures!! I'd love to see NYC all decked out for Christmas! As always, thank you Mike!!!

In that regard , the City has not changed from when I lived there in the 60's.

Two weeks ago, I went with my friend to do Christmas in NYC, Part I near Macy’s on West 34th Street and all the way west to Hudson YardS. Today was Part II. We started in Times Square and walked up to Sixth Avenue across from Radio City Music Hall.

Fifth Avenue was all decked out with giant ornaments on the sidewalk all the way from near Rockefeller Center to Central Park. (Oh and the last one is not an ornament, but more of a curiosity, if you know what I mean. :sneaky2: )
