What's Life Like in New York City?

I was in Washington Square Park in Greenwich Village today. For one thing I was thinking about how it has much the same vibe as it did when I was a teenager in the mid to late 1960’s, with singers and poetry and just people hanging out. On a January 2, with the temperature in the low 50’s, it felt more like a spring day, minus the trees and flowers. The fountain had no water in it and was being used as a skateboarding rink.

I took a pic of the south side and saw One World Trade Center in the distance, and in the north end through the famous Arch you can see the Empire State Building. However in this last shot my pic was “photo bombed” by pigeons. lol. Just another day in New York City. 😀

Those sexy shirtless skateboarders from the Summer are bundled up in January!

Today I went to The Museum of the City of New York, up on East 103 Street & Fifth Avenue opposite Central Park, on what is known as Museum Mile. I went today because I saw on local cable news yesterday morning on my way to work that an exhibition of photographs from great photographers of the 20th Century was there now and closing next Monday so I took the subway to see it today.

Here are some pics of the museum and I also saw means of communication no longer being used including a rotary phone and a pay phone, both of which are now obsolete and on display in a museum. Go figure lol

On the way back to the subway, I walked through the path in Central Park along the perimeter of Fifth Avenue. Today was in the mid fifties but cloudy. Had this been a spring or summer day, it would be green with leaves and the grounds would be filled with people, but the playgrounds and the fields were closed with only some folks on benches and walking dogs.

This is what that part of Central Park looked like today, plus a few pretty old buildings on Madison and Lexington Avenues on my way back to the subway. Overall it was a fun day for me.

What a grand building the museum is. It also looks very European in its own way. :)

Thanks for all the pics buddy!

Thanks Tampa! I actually did one more museum today. It is the Museum of Natural History on the other side of Central Park from the Museum of the City of New York at 81st Street & Central Park West. The subway station has the name of the museum in the mosaics and even has some dinosaurs and birds embedded on the subway walls. Here is the subway startion and a few of the dinosaurs on the fourth floor as well.

The museum loks great and very entertaining. (As well as hopefully educational too. haha) How cool that they did some stylized decor in the subway stop to match the theme of the museum. :)
