Every weekday morning, I watch a bit of New York One’s local all news station to get local headlines and weather before switching to Morning Joe on MSNBC. The weatherman on New York One has been Erick Adame, a very handsome young openly gay meteorologist. He hasn’t been on the show for the last week or two and they didn’t say that he was on vacation. I discovered today that he was terminated for appearing on a gay cam site, naked.

Here is an article on the matter.

Erick Adame, meteorologist for Spectrum News NY1, said that he was terminated from his position after he secretly appeared on an adult cam website.

“I am taking this opportunity to share my truth rather than let others control the narrative of my life,” Adame wrote in an Instagram post on Monday.

“Despite being a public figure and being on television in the biggest market in the country in front of millions of people five days a week for more than a decade and a half, I secretly appeared on an adult cam website. On this site, I acted out my compulsive behaviors, while at home, by performing on camera for other men. It was 100% consensual on both of our parts. I wasn’t paid for this, and it was absurd of me to think I could keep this private. Nonetheless, my employer found out and I was suspended and then termination.”

Adame was let go from the news outlet late last week. Spectrum News NY1 declined comment.

In his Instagram post, Adame wrote: “First and foremost, I unequivocally apologize to my employers at Spectrum, my co-workers, my audience, my family and my friends for any embarrassment or humiliation I have caused you. You expected and deserved better from me.”

He added, “I can’t take it back, and I can’t change what I did, but I am getting professional help I need so I can make appropriate decisions that don’t affect those I deeply care about, as well as my career, as I move forward in my life.”

About two hours after Adame’s post, it had received almost 1,200 likes.

He filed a lawsuit in New York Supreme Court against Unit 4 Media Ltd. seeking the identity of an anonymous user who sent images from the site to Adame’s employer and mother. The litigation was first obtained by The Daily Beast.

Adame had been a meteorologist at NY1 since 2017 and, before that, was at Spectrum News 1 in Syracuse, NY. He’s been part of NY1’s Emmy-nominated coverage of Hurricane Ida and Tropical Storm Isaias.

Adame wrote that as “a public figure I recognize that I have certain responsibilities that come along with the privileges I enjoyed. But, let me be clear about something: I don’t apologize for being openly gay or for being sex-positive — those are gifts and I have no shame about them.”

He wrote that he “had the job of my dreams and I lost it due to my own lapse in judgment. But, I’m optimistic, and perhaps naive enough to think that I can be back on television and do this again someday.”

That’s a shame. The only thing that seems suspicious is saying he wasn’t paid for it. I can’t understand camming without being paid. I hope he wins his lawsuit.

I think this is one of those new cultural pitfalls that will eventually be considered a normal matter of personal choice. And not a good legal excuse to terminate an employee. If you're an obscure guy working as an accountant in a cubicle...then no. A employer shouldn't be legally allowed to fire him for only that. It does get dicey though when someone has a very visible presence representing a company.

I hope so. By the way I have a Masters & PHD in Meteorology among other things. However, so what!

I fail to see how camming on one's off duty time is job related, so this is not fair. As previously discussed on this Forum, back in the 1980s Simon Rex did some gay oriented nude photography and kept his VJ job with MTV, and his ratings even went up! It's sad and unfortunate that in 2022, this television station lags behind MTV three decades ago! To my knowledge there nothing wrong or illegal about camming in New York State. I hope he finds out the identity of the anonymous complainant to the employer and sues the rat for defamation of character and tortious interference with the contractual relationship of others along with suing his former employer for wrongful discharge!

Agree.

This is the kind of shit that pisses me off. I can't say much about an incident that happened to someone I knew without doxxing myself or them, but needless to say they got fired for a morality clause in their contract for filming porn in their offtime (as in videographer not star).

What a consenting adult does in their spare time should not have an impact on their job and livelihood. I hate pearl clutching people, they are the worst and usually the biggest hypocrites.

I agree. I think a legal precedent will eventually be set where employers are no longer allowed to fire employees over this issue. And I think KG is right here. That if the perp can be identified and found who sent these pics to his employer and his mother, he can be sued at the very least. Possibly he could even be sentenced to check in for a while at the gray hotel?? Any lawyers, law clerks or other legally trained people here who might know? This was certainly done with malicious intent. Maybe it could possibly, possibly be construed as a hate crime?
