You have included most of my all time favorites, including some that I've heard bits and pieces of, and enjoy as well, but Beatles, Paul Simon (and Art Garfunkle), Dylan, Marley are among the best of the best to me. And I also love Pink Floyd, Kinks, Talking Heads, Johnny Cash, Cat Stevens too. I would certainly enjoy listening to your "mix tape", anytime.

I love making mix CDs! Some are many different artists, some are my own opinion of the "best of" from the same artist, or just odd juxtapositions. I like using Sony College Dudes Architect to play around with cross-fades and VST plugs (mainly L2 Limiter and a touch of Ren EQ) so no matter who's mashed together it sounds like it was meant to be. But so many albums are best just as they are.

Wow you're like me there Clock, a good cross section of stuff from 60s to current day.

My parents were very much into music, and I was lucky enough to be exposed to so many different genres. My mother is a pianist, and played a lot of baroque, classical, and romantic music, along with ragtime, jazz and blues (New Orleans and St. Louis styles mostly). My dad was into Cream, Sabbath, Floyd, the Doors, ELP, Yes, Bob Marley... but both of their musical tastes overlapped with the Beatles, Paul Simon, Dylan, Elton John, etc. I grew up in the late '80's to '90's, and acquired a taste for metal, grunge, alternative, and hip-hop atop my '60's & '70's foundation. As a musician, the Beatles are far and away the most important influence on me. And I can hear their influence in countless other rock/pop/alt artists.

Ok this is gonna be my 2000th post, because this is my favourite thread. Only through music can harmonise our thoughts through language and cultural difficulties - sorry I'm going off on one now lol

So today's track is dedicated to my good friend Tom and Alex, Lester, MikeYank, Joe, the girls, and all my other compadres on the site. You won't all like it, but it doesn't matter because it's my post. LOL

Have patience with this, it goes on a bit until 1:20

Interesting cover - I love it

I finally dedicate this song to my 11 year old dog Ben who has just been diagnosed with a lung tumour near his heart. I just wish I could understand him and for him to tell me if he's in pain - he doesn't seem to be. :crying:

Congratulations on Post #2000 Jon!!!

That's a wonderful song that I wasn't real familiar with, and Graham Nash and David Crosby are 2/3 of one group, and 1/2 of another great Supergroup, but they sound damn good as a duo too.

And that saltarell cover band is a trip. I see they also do Teach Your Children. All my best wishes to Ben. I'm sure he knows how much you love him.

Undies current favourite

Hey guys,

My current favourite song at the moment is Jet Boy Jet Girl by Elton Motello released in 1977. Took me a little while to work out the lyrics but by then I was hooked on the beat. Listen:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2KAXvTvO0TI

"Jet Boy, Jet Girl" is a risqué song by Elton Motello about a 15-year-old boy's sexual relationship with an older man, who then rejects him for a girl. With its chorus of "ooh ooh ooh ooh, he gives me head," it has been embraced as something of a gay punk anthem.

Alan Ward, the singer behind Elton Motello, was circumspect about the original lyrics by Yvan Lacomblez. "We have all been ripped off at some point in our lives," he said in a magazine interview, "but judging by the emails I receive, my lyric has touched many more people and seems to ring a chord in many more hearts than the French one will ever do. That's why I wrote it. If I was meant to be rich it would have happened. But I am rich in the knowledge that my thoughts will never disappear."

And I actually had quite the opposite reaction. I really got into the music, as it reminds me of the stuff from the late 70's & early 80's punk era, like The Ramones, Nick Edmonds, Deborah Harry and Blondie, a group called "Blotto", who did a fun song called "I Wanna Be A Lifeguard", and others. I never explored the deep album tracks or got into the true punk scene, but I find this music entertaining and exciting and fun.

However the story behind this particular song, is a bit disturbing, like the film, "Death in Venice".

Dear Mikeyank,

Did you say...

I hated to see your reference to "I Wanna Be A Lifeguard" go "unlinked" as it were. (A belated unwrapped Christmas present)

Sincerely,

Thank you Stimpy. That was a pleasant diversion on a snowy Sunday in New York. I love the music and lyrics like,

"I want an ocean and some sunscreen lotion
Take me to the beach with a thousand pretty girls in reach"

and

"Summer blondes revealing tanlines
I'll make more moves than Allied Van Lines"

Thanks for the memories. :thumbup1:

Jet Boy Jet Girl Reaction

As I suspected a mixed reaction from the audience. Elton Motello and Yvan Lacomblez (lyrics) still causing a bit of controversy 33 years on. Ha.

I watched thos Prince Poppycock videos while I was on there the first time. I love his Bohemian Rapsidy better tha his duet with Donna Summer but that was pretty awesome too. He certainly takes Drag to a whole new level...

George has a pretty good tallent for rap too. I love the rendition of C&C Music Factory.

Flash Mobs

Also, the last month or so, I've been looking into 'flash mobs' and this is one I really enjoyed:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7EYAUazLI9k&feature=related

Hey Tom,

These flash mobs are so fun. I like the Antwerp one as it takes a busy station where seemingly no one has time to be friendly and instantly changes it into an environment where people do have a little time to spare to enjoy life.

Here is one a London's Liverpool Street Station. Its actually an advertisement and was filmed in the early hours of the morning after the station was closed and all people are performers. You can sort of tell this by the camera work.

This advertisement was repeated later by a real flash mob that caused transport delays.
