What's Life Like in New York City?

Yesterday afternoon, I got a ride out to Long Island and my meeting place was on the Upper East Side. I took a couple of pics on East 86th Street & Third Avenue. Manhattan is kind of quiet on weekends in August. Once summer season is over after Labor Day, there will be a lot more activity.

Thank you Mike for sharing those great pictures. I hope you are having a great day.

Im doing okay. Thanks for asking. I’m resting up after a family day yesterday on Long Island before starting a four day work week tomorrow. The pics weren’t anything special but while I waiting for my ride, I thought of this thread and took a few horizontal shots suitable for the forum. lol :001_smile:

Thanks for the pics Mikey. The black fire hydrant looks very strange and different from the more traditional shape. Do you think you could snap a photo of a fire hydrant of that same design sometime? I'm curious if it's of a newer modern design and if it will become a national trend.

I hadn’t noticed it until you mentioned it Tampa. I don’t know if they are exclusively in that neighborhood. But you’ve given me a new assignment as I walk around now to check out the fire hydrants, as well as hot guys. lol

I did check out the fire hydrants in my neighborhood and they are in the traditional shape. Perhaps the other is an Upper East Side of Manhattan type thing.

As I hate to post just one pic on a post, I took a few pics of flowers in window boxes and on the stoops of two brownstones this morning as well, (unrelated to the fire hydrant discussion).

Thanks for the pics Mikey!
And thank you Tampa for your starting this thread and asking about the city I’ve lived in all my life. For me it was an accident of birth for which I am very grateful to my parents for. And when I got my first iPhone two years ago, it all fell together nicely.

You would not get an argument from me. But that, sadly, does not work both ways .

By the way my friend, I hope you have a good day & try not to overdo things at work.

Today was a short ferry ride north up the East River to Williamsburg and Smorgasburg! From Wikipedia:

“Smorgasburg is an open-air food market that originated in Williamsburg, Brooklyn next to the East River.[1][2] It takes place every Saturday in an empty lot.[1] The name Smorgasburg is a portmanteau of “Smörgåsbord” and “Williamsburg.” Dozens of vendors sell their food and wares.”

I started at the DUMBO ferry to take the two stop ride to North Williamsburg.

This is the ferry route I took from DUMBO Brooklyn to North Williamsburg which is where Smorgasburg is. And right across the East River from Williamsburg is the lower East Side of Manhattan.

And a few more shots of the view from the park adjacent to the food court.

And when I arrived back in DUMBO and a visitor I came across on the path back home in Brooklyn Bridge Park.
