Ok, Ive been a big critic of the new director on Broke Straight Boys but Im also willing to give him a temporary break. Im fortunate enough to know a handful of the Broke Straight Boys away from here and I spoke with a couple of them today. I know there was a filming last week with several new scenes shot and our criticisms were discussed and attempts were made to address some of the fans concerns. Mark mentioned that the models like the new director and they confirmed that was the case. He is admittedly different but hopefully not stubborn!

In the spirit of the Holidays lets relax a little bit, remember this is just porn, and there are a lot more important things going on in the world. If in the end, it doesnt change and you dont like, there are plenty of other sites to move on to.

As I have said I started to like him in the Damien Kyle Colby vid. Not as obtrusive, not as much talking during the shoot. He still needs to keep his fingers behind the cam, just a big turn off to me. If he needs to say something during the shoot turn the sound off direct the performers then turn it backon. Other than that he seems to have things to contribute to Broke Straight Boys and I hope he works out

let's see, this is December. the episodes we are seeing were made in November. the earliest any change based upon member comment would be later this month or early next month.
knowing mark and sha, I have no doubt that comments were discussed and some concerns were addressed. this is the advantage of having control of content and a short production to release time.
I like Johnny's camera work and banter. some fine tuning and a little time may be all that is needed.

That's the way I see it too Another1. We can take a chill pill and give it another month or so. :)

I thought I'd let everyone know how I feel about Johnny. When I first started working with Johnny I was taken off guard. He's a lot more laid back about everything and lets the models decide what they want to do in the scene. He actually makes going to the studio fun, because when we get there he tells us he wants us to do what we feel comfortable doing, because if we are comfortable, it makes for a better, more genuine scene. He has a great personality and is a lot more involved with hanging out with everyone while at the house. Since Johnny started working with us everything seems to me more light hearted, and the house itself feels calmer. There's not a lot of tension and awkwardness. I can't speak for all the models here, but this is a VERY POSITIVE change! I look forward to work with Johnny more in the future.

Had to support this comment since, certain concerns from, various (not all) members, posting on this forum can only be Validated by hearing it from a model or member of management (or so it seems)! And even then, some still have difficulty adjusting their thoughts and opinions! LOL. What "I read" by the expressions on some of the models' faces during the first few scenes Johnny directed was; a look of "surprise"! "Like really? You would be okay with that? "Usually we don't have that creative license at our disposal during a shoot!" Rather than the look of embarrassment or insult as some have suggested in their comments.

Hopefully, after reading this comment from Ian, we can all moved "gayly -forward" on this particular matter!!

Hi Ian - Thanks for joining us, much appreciated! However, as a year-long member, I am very turned-off by his intrusive and sarcastic approach. You are a sensational performer yet even you seemed rattled (and you & Tate are among the best I have ever seen, anywhere!). That the other Forum is filled with very hostile comments from paying members about the director is a dangerous sign for the company. As a veteran marketing guy for major firms, the last thing you want to hear are ANY complaints, especially about a secondary part of the offering, i.e. the cameraman. I'm an optimistic by nature and hope this changes ... quickly. Best holiday wishes!

Thanks for contributing your own thoughts on this Ian. :) I'm glad to know that Johnny's arrival has been well received at the house. That's a good omen for how things will go in the future. All along I've been in the camp of those who feel we should all give Johnny time and a chance to get settled in here. He will obviously bring his own personality and his own unique talents to the table. I'm optimistic also that he'll do fine and become a great addition to the team.

Thanks again for writing, Ian. xo :001_smile:

I have been in the minority here since Johnny's first scene. I liked him, his personality and his banter with the models. I did mention after his first scene that I thought he should reduce his chat a bit, but liked the fact that you can hear him and the models. The production quality has improved and I can understand what Ian being very positive about Johnny.

So, let's take a deep breath and give him a break. Clay came under fire as David's replacement and it's too bad that Johnny is getting much of the same. I think the good comments on this thread will help everyone involved.

Well, after 3-1/2 years of being a Broke Straight Boys member, I've just cancelled my membership. It's no secret that I'm no fan of verbose director's (a la David from 1.0) and now that it seems that Broke Straight Boys is headed back in that direction I feel it's time for me to bid adieu.

Let me say a few things though in parting: first, I love seeing the models interviews and them sharing their personal sides. I especially looked forward to the episodes they made with Shay but that was because they were separate "Behind The Scenes" episodes where I think they belong. I never liked hearing the director's talking ad nauseum throughout the sex episodes because when I watch a sex episode I want to see SEX. PERIOD.

The one thing I saw repeated throughout this thread was "give the new director a chance." Why? We did that during Broke Straight Boys 1.0, and then 1.5 (when David continuously yapped and then started throwing in numerous racist comments). And then we were told to be patient during Broke Straight Boys 2.0 and then 2.5. And now here we are at Broke Straight Boys 3.0 and we're just repeating the same ol' thing. How long will this director last, six months? And then what, give the next director a chance too? This is supposed to be a professionally run website. I would think the basics of directing the episodes would already have been learned by the powers that be. I would think they would explain that to the new hires.

And it's not just here. I just watched the new episode from College Dudes which has the same director blabbing non-stop throughout that episode too.

So, no thanks. I expected my membership dues to go towards hot, amateur straight guys engaged in hot sex, not listening to some off-camera guy give details about how much fun he had fucking a cantaloupe.

I'm sure that news of my departure won't make a difference here or there and will probably even have a few saying "good riddance," but I refuse to spend money on idle, unwanted conversation. Even having said all this, I honestly do wish you all well.

Cheers ...

Whether or not we like the new director, giving him a chance is not our choice. You have to presume that he is under some kind of contract; so unless there were significant membership loss because of dissatisfaction with him, this isn't going to change. As for me, if he doesn't smooth off his rough edges and take the gist of the criticisms seriously, then I'm outta here.

Ian, with all due respect, why should we expect you to say otherwise? This man plays a major role as to your continued employment and the quantity of that employment, so why would you say anything negative about him, even if you had such feelings? As for letting the models decide what they want to do - that is letting the inmates run the asylum. A director has to conceive a scene and direct the actors as to how he wants to carry it out. And remember one important fact, the scenes are to be made to please the members not the actors. And hopefully the director should know what his audience likes. If he really does conduct himself as you describe above, maybe he is just a camerman as he is referred to, and not a director. If enough members are turned off by his methodology and they leave the site, then everybody loses.

I share many of the same feelings, deetee. Sorry you are leaving, but I might not be too far behind you.

I will admit it was a bit of a "culture shock" when I did my first scene with Johnny directing, but I've had the privilege to work with him several times since then and it is a much better experience overall. I know a lot of people were taken aback by how much he would talk, and he has trimmed that down quite a bit. The banter in the beginning though is really fun and really helps Broke Straight Boys's whole approach to getting to know the models better.

My employment relies solely on my own performance that I maintain. Who is behind the camera makes no difference. I am sorry if these scenes weren't made to please you. If this is so, may I suggest you look for pornographic content where the models are mistreated and abused elsewhere? That seems to be what you're looking for. As far as my comments about Johnny go, I have already stated the negative side to his method. If I truly felt otherwise, I would have said so. I have never been a kiss-ass and have never felt the need to say a specific thing just to make someone feel good. What I post on this forum is my true feelings.

While I don't share all of your conclusions, I am sorry to hear that you are leaving us Deeteedub. I do hope that we will see you back again some day. Live long and prosper.

I like to go on record saying that I'm shocked that so many people are getting upset over the new director. We've only seen a handful of scenes and tons of members were so fast to past judgement and lots of people have freaked out so badly. I say give him a chance and see where this goes because in the end Broke Straight Boys might get better because of the new change. I will admit even though I love the banter and talking to liven things up Johnny does go on a little long but if Ian says that's been changed then I'm happy.

I'll agree with most all of the "positive" comments here about our new director. He is a very energetic guy who, some know, has shot for other companies in straight porn as well as gay I believe. He really does bring a different element into Broke Straight Boys that all of us models feel will bring our porn to the next level! Give Johnny a bit of a break guys, instead of looking at the dark side of how he is so different, check out the positives. He is taking us all for a wild ride! ;)

Thanks Paul for your positive response. Not everybody feels the need to be so negative so I'm glad that deedeetub feels he needs to move on and find something better.

(Stowe replies in green) My employment relies solely on my own performance that I maintain. Who is behind the camera makes no difference. If you really believe that then you are more naieve than you should be for yor age. Now if the man behind the camera is just a camera man, then maybe. But if he is also the director, you would have us believe that Broke Straight Boys is the only porn site where who a director likes or doesn't like makes no difference as to employment of models? But more importantly we've heard stories from current and former models about how personality and other conflicts have impacted their scheduling and use as models....

I am sorry if these scenes weren't made to please you. If this is so, may I suggest you look for pornographic content where the models are mistreated and abused elsewhere? That seems to be what you're looking for. You wrote that the new director "...lets the models decide what they want to do in the scene." My point was that the site exists to make scenes that will attract members; thus, it is membership driven. The director should know what appeals to his audience and frame various scenes to appeal to the varied likes of the members; then he should frame the scene and impart to the models how he wants the scene to play out. It is not for the models to decide what they want to do in the scene - it is the models' job to carry out the vision as imparted by the director. Moreover, to let the models decide what they want to do in the scene is to place the burden of knowing what members want on the models without their having access to all the data necessary to know that. Secondly, no where did I write any specifics about the type of porn I like or don't like. You show your emotional and intellectual immaturity by writing what you wrote about the type of porn I'm looking for.

As far as my comments about Johnny go, I have already stated the negative side to his method. Yes, you did say you were taken off guard.

If I truly felt otherwise, I would have said so. I have never been a kiss-ass and have never felt the need to say a specific thing just to make someone feel good. What I post on this forum is my true feelings.Or so you would like us to believe.
