Real Sports - Athletes and Teams that we follow and admire.

I woke up to block buster trade for Yankees, after learning Sunday, Duke a #2 Seed in NCAA Tournament next week, plus Tom Brady unretiring. Wild day in sports. But first trying to get a few more hours sleep before a Monday workday.

What a pleasant wake up that must have been for you! Duke did not get hurt that badly in its seeding and the Yanks may have helped themselves a lot! As for Brady his retirement statement about putting family above his personal wishes at some point was a hint that a comeback as per his personal wishes was still possible, which in fact happened.

One of the players the Yankees acquired from Minnesota in the blockbuster Josh Hamilton trade is a young 24 year old catcher named Ben Rortvedt. Although I personally am not a fan of “over done”, in my opinion bodies, he certainly is “jacked”, as they say.

From twitter, “ That's 24-year-old catcher Ben Rortvedt. He was rated the best defensive catcher in the Twins' system last season, he's an exceptional framer and some scouts believe he may eventually have 20-HR power. And yes, as you could probably see from outer space, he is exceedingly yoked.

His powerful, lefty swing could fit in perfectly at Yankee Stadium as he develops, or, like his first MLB homer, he can always crank one 417 feet the other way.”

And this is another new Yankee, acquired in the same trade, 26 year old shortstop, Isiah Kiner-Falefa. This is him yesterday, before and after.

“ Kiner-Falefa used to wear a beard, but he knew about the Yankees’ facial hair policy. So the versatile infielder quickly got to work with a razor and shaved off the beard. He shared a video on Monday morning showing the transition.

The Yankees have had a policy prohibiting hair grown past the collar and facial hair anywhere but above the upper lip. The grooming policy has been in place since the late George Steinbrenner implemented it in 1973 and has been continued by his sons.

Some players have publicly expressed issue with the policy. But many others recognize that shaving or getting a haircut is one of the small prices to pay to play for one of the most well-known and respected sports franchises in the world. Kiner-Falefa certainly seems to have embraced the rule.“

Pity he looks hotter with beard & what did it cost the team to get these two.

These two kids are at the lower spectrum of salary. The big piece is Josh Donaldson who the Yankees will pay $42 Million over next two years. Minnesota will assume Urshella and Sanchez’s contracts but overall Yanks are paying out way more. Baseball and all professional sports are indeed BIG business.

I saw Josh Donaldson on TV yesterday in Yankee camp in Tampa. He is 36, but as a certain British former forumite would say, “He’s as fit as fuck”.

Minor difference of opinion as I think that he looks younger and hotter clean shaven. I may be in the minority on this, but I do not care for beards and tattoos as the former make them look older and the latter mars their appearances in my opinion.

Depends on the man

Duke will face Michigan State on Sunday to get into The Sweet Sixteen next week. Makes me think of a most controversial former forumite named Spartans who was a graduate of Michigan State. He and I had a friendly rivalry over our two teams but Spartans left here under most controversial circumstances. But that was just another piece of forum history. In the present it should be a great game Sunday.

I am always sorry to hear about Forumites that leave under unfortunate circumstances.

Only one local team from the New York City metropolitan area is still alive in the NCAA Tournament. And they are Saint Peters of Jersey City. And they became only the tenth #15 seed in tournament history to beat a #2 seed as they did to Kentucky on Thursday. Their star in that game was 22 year old Doug Edert. Reading about him today, I discovered his teammates call his mustache a 70’s porn stache. And his team nickname is Peacocks. All the more reason I will watch Doug and the Peacocks tonight as they try for their second upset as they play the #7 seed Murray State tonight.

This is Doug Edert and his 70’s porn mustache. Go Cocks. :001_tongue:

Yesterday, the morning after St. Peter's big upset of Kentucky, the ACC Network Sports Talk show had no idea where St. Peter's College was located and had to look it up! Good luck to St. Peter's tonight against Murray State I believe. I have a suggestion for future regular season game scheduling: Schedule the St. Peter's College Peacocks against the University of South Carolina Gamecocks, thereby having an epic matchup of Cocks versus Cocks! Cocks versus Cocks could also be the title of a gay porn video!

I wouldn’t know who too root for with those two teams playing one another, being I am truly a “cock” lover. :001_smile:

The Cock winning streak continues as St. Peter's upset Murray State tonight and advances to the Sweet Sixteen. Another great night for cocks that play hard or is it hard cocks! Frankly South Carolina plays their shortened "cocks" name up even more than St. Peter's as many of South Carolina's male teams have just the word "COCKS" on their uniform shirts! And South Carolina's full team nickname of "Gamecocks" has a randy horny implication to it, a lot more sexual in implication than St. Peter's less suggestive full team name of Peacocks!

I watched the entire St. Peter’s win over Murray State and it was exciting watching the small college team from Jersey City outplaying a higher seed again. I missed the first game upset of Kentucky so this was my first time watching Doug Edert who comes off the bench and only played 24 minutes but was crucial in crunch time when the game was won. Overall he scored 13 points in those 24 minutes.

I found this video showing some of his clutch plays from Thursday. I am a big fan of this kid.

It's my Bulldogs year I can feel it
They barely won last night. They were trailing by ten at halftime. I’m not sure if Duke is going to even beat Michigan State today, but I would be surprised if Gonzaga wins it all, but we shall see as the tournament moves on.
