10 random facts about you.

I thought I'd "dig up" this old but always interesting thread with our new forumite Bartirah in my mind, but all are encouraged to participate!!!

Your life is so nice that now I think my life sucks! lol

I will have to think harder to find 10 interesting things about myself...

4. I became interested in politics at the age of ten, when John F. Kennedy ran for president. I went to my local campaign office, and handed out flyers for him.

5. At the age of 17, as a high school senior, for an elective social studies class, I was assigned to work one afternoon a week, in Senator Robert F. Kennedy's New York City office. One day they sent me to the airport by cab to pick up a package, and deliver it to Jackie Kennedy's apartment. (Pretty heady stuff for a 17 year old high school student).
Really? Really? Really? Not even all the nonsenes that is happening in my country right now can compare to the excitmente to working near the Kennedy clan!

10. I'm a big fan of rock music from the late 60's and early 70's. (Reminds me of my college days, drinking beer, taking drugs, and protesting the Vietnam War:thumbup1:.)
I was born in the end of the 80's but my dream is to find a Time Machine and go back in time to be able to watch the Woodstock concert!!!

Hi Bartirah,

I wanted to comment further on some of your post. I am also a big Harry Potter fan even as an adult. I thoroughly enjoyed reading all the books. Standing in line on the night that the newest book was being released to the public was one of those rare events in life that you don't forget. Who would have imagined that the release of a new book ostensibly for children could get hundreds of thousands of children and adults alike to line up all over the world for their own copy? lol

I learned Spanish as a second language. But I must confess that my Spanish is not as good as it used to be. lol And yes... It's one thing to learn phrases and vocabulary from textbooks. But the spoken language and colloquialisms will usually have many differences from what you learn of a foreign language in the classroom. lol

I really admire that you are a teacher.

Hey, Tampa!
Nice to find another Harry Potter's fan. I was 11 years old when the first book was released and the story starts with Harry's eleventh birthday. After that, I bought all the books as soon as they got launched. It's crazy how imaginary characters can became part of our lives... I felt like they were my friends when I was a teen.

I have a golden snitch tattooed on my finger...

I think Spanish is a beautiful and sexy language, but although people claim it's similar to Portuguese I was never able to learn it... And I tried many times! But it's difficult! English is easier, at least for me... But some slangs and expressions confuse me. Just another day I had to ask for help to understand what is a 'nelly guy'. I've never heard that before. But mike was very nice and explained it to me.

Well, thanks for replying! Greetings from Brasil!

A friend of mine who speaks multiple languages once told me that Portuguese is like a cross between French and Italian. I have a few close friends
who are Brazilian and agree that it is a beautiful language. Have you ever been to Portugal? I here Lisbon is one of the prettiest cities in Europe..

Unfortunately I have never been to Portugal! But sure is my favorite destination in Europe. I like Portuguese I lot and I agree that's a beautiful language, and far more difficult than English or French (not my opinion, I just read about this...) because of the number of words, the crazy grammar rules and the large number of phonemes.

Thanks Repareur for letting us know more about you! If I may ask (and you can always tell me to fuck off):
Are you out to your family?
When you were in college, did you live on campus? Any good stories?
What is it about Egypt that you enjoy so much? I thought Egypt was not a very openly gay country; has it changed?
What type of artist are you? And what type of interior designs do you enjoy? (visuals would help)
Congratulations on your loving relationship! Does his side of the family appreciate how great you two are?
I am assuming you live on a ranch?
Again, all or some are yours to answer, if you want. Thanks, Beth

Thinking about traveling outside the big city, are we?!:001_tongue:

Thanks Repareur for letting us know more about you! If I may ask (and you can always tell me to fuck off):
Are you out to your family?

Yes. Ever since I ran off with my sisters boyfriend they know! And actually today they are great about it. Even my sisters.

When you were in college, did you live on campus? Any good stories?

I actually lived In an apartment right off campus. Yes there are tons of stories. I was in with a group of gay students and locals that hung out at the bar nightly. We used to go to Denny's every night after bar. A big voicetrous table often with a drag queen or two. One night a table of good old boys called over the manager and told him to ask us to leave. He told them to leave. We were there every night. Good customers that tipped well. I was vert proud of him! This was late 70s early 80s.

What is it about Egypt that you enjoy so much? I thought Egypt was not a very openly gay country; has it changed?

Egypt is pretty liberal for an Arab country and it has a big minority Christian/Coptic minority. For one thing it looks very gay because you see very few women out at night. Large groups of guys will roam the streets holding hands you might think you were in San Francisco, Anyway they aren't all really gay it just looks that way but there are tons of gays. It's my theory that because girls are so off limits and kept apart the boys learn to play with each other. Even though it's taboo. I was there when I was 18 in the late 70s and again in the early 90s. It was on that trip in the 90s that I really got to know the people better. I was traveling with a partner at work who had a boyfriend in Egypt. We got to do the whole nightlife thing. They had gay baths and everything. But what really got me was the employees were all after me at the hotels. They were doing some construction work and the job supervisor was a big hunky guy and I eventually got around all the really overly gay ones that were so obvious coming on to me and got him into my hotel room. But even in 78. They were coming on to me. I was with my Dad though so I couldn't do much. I did meet a nice man from Amsterdam at the casino on that trip and snuck off to his hotel room. He was wearing a 3 piece suit with no shirt and no underwear. He was a very attractive very tan blond man.

What type of artist are you? And what type of interior designs do you enjoy? (visuals would help). Msg me I'll send pics

I am a ceramic artist mostly although I do a little painting. I've done all sorts of interior design work but I was mostly in the furniture importing business from Europe. I've done western to contemporary but my favorite style is classic to rather fussy French. It's not at all "in" right now but I enjoy old school elegance and that's mostly what I work with. There are bargains on fine antiques these days. It's unbelievable. The kids and grandkids don't want granies antiques. They want all new stuff that's mostly not made well and is practically disposable.

Congratulations on your loving relationship! Does his side of the family appreciate how great you two are?

They are right wing religious but they tolerate our relationship. Surprisingly well these days.

I am assuming you live on a ranch?

Yes we do. It's not a big one but is really pretty and scenic, very hilly and partially wooded. I'm building a petit French Chateau on the ranch. I have a nice collection of antiques and art work that's not going to work in your modern ranch house.

Again, all or some are yours to answer, if you want. Thanks, Beth
