I'm kinda surprised noone has commented on this video. It is a bit of a bummer that his actual crypt is behind locked doors. But I think that migt be a good thing in the present point of our human evolution. If his grave site and tombstone/plaque was within inches of the public, it might lead some homophobic neanderthal attention seekers to try to deface it with foul graffiti or other forms of vandalism.
I met Matthew's mother Judy Sheperd back around 2003 when she visited the campus of USF in Tampa. She gave a public address to students and the public preaching against bullying and hate crimes. Particularly against LGBT people. It was a crowded venue where she showed a video display of the trial of the two guys who tortured Matthew to within inches of death and then left him tied against a fence like a discarded dog. She said her office back home where she had a foundation that kept her on these national speaking tours, would still daily in 2003 get unsolicited faxes from "Rev." Fred Phelps of the Westboro Baptist Church. The faxes would say vile things along the lines of, Matt was defintely burning in hell. He deserved to die. God hates fags. Etc, etc. (For being a homosexual.)
But the other great takeaway from this video is how beautiful the architecture is of the National Cathedral. I'm very impressed. It had never really been on my radar before. But now that I've seen glimpses of the outside and inside... It's kind of on my bucket list now.
I don't know how the rest of you feel. Even on film I sensed the energy of the space and the reverence and awe of those tourists inside of it.
