Come on guys and girls, this thread was supposed to be about the Olympics.. It's quite obvious that most of you cba about them or you would have commented on the 3 golds the US won yesterday evening. If you want to digress or post stupid irrelevant pics do so on another thread please.

Jon, you are much too young to be so rigid! WE were all just having fun. And whether you want to admit it or not, this pic by Mark is very timely and appropriate to this thread!

Personally, I am getting disgusted about the HUGE emphasis on the medals. I don't give a damn who makes the most medals, or who wins the most gold. It should not be about who beats who, but rather, it should be about who has trained the most and on that day can give the best performance of their life. For me, anyone who is even a competitor at the Olympics, is already a winner! Sure it may be nice to claim that on any given day, one person was the best in the world.

I give all honor and praise to anyone who is the best that day, regardless of nationality, or sex, or color. And almost as much to everyone else who competed. I could not even imagine having that strength or commitment to do what all these athletes do. they are all heroes to me.

Big cheer for the USA 4 x 100 girls relay team. Not only did they win the gold but they smashed the East Germans 27 year world record. Brilliant.

Jon, I'm not very sports minded...the 'super clumsy' gene squashed that dream for me many years ago, but I just read where Great Britain have a tally of 57 medal, which is their highest tally in 104 years! Even I can appreciate how proud that must make you feel, especially when the games are being held in your own country.

Thanks Grace. Yes it is a vast improvement on 1996 when we only got 1 gold, but thanks to the Lottery funding sports facilities have massively grown here in the uk. Also there is a county called Yorkshire that would be 10th in the medals table if you added all the medals up from the winners that came from that county alone.

Congrats to Mohammed Farah tonight in winning the 5000mtrs along with this 10000mtrs success last saturday. What an achievement which must surely rank equally to Mr Bolts.

For those who like music and concerts, tomorrows closing ceremony is forecast to be a classic.. So get out of your bed you darned smelly yanks lol or stay up a bit later you lazy kiwis and enjoy xxx

Apparently the closing ceremony is supposed to be real good tonight. It starts at 9pm uk time. For you yanks we are 5 hours ahead of Eastern time, so you can work it out from there. Enjoy xx

Congratulations USA Basketball Gold Medal Team

I watched a very exciting basketball game this morning as Spain fought the USA hard in what was a very close game until the final minutes. Both teams have NBA players, but the USA had a virtual NBA All Star team, but basketball is an American sport, and I loved watching the team coached by Mike Krzyzewski (winningest coach in history of men's NCAA basketball and of my beloved Duke Blue Devils). Way to go Team USA!!!

I read that NBC is allowing the live stream to be shown online at 4 PM, while the taped version will be broadcast on the network at 7 PM, Eastern time zone. Apparently NBC blacked out the live opening ceremonies, but as their ratings have been so good they are allowing the closing ceremonies to be streamed live on line as well.

The show started slow and kinda wierd but hotted up after 30mins and was quite spectacular after that. Now it's late and Im off to bed.
