I think you guys are hitting on some of the right reasons for the decline in posting lately. If people feel like they're going to be clobbered by other members for saying the "wrong" thing, then people will decide to refrain from posting. Or at least they'll cut down on their activity in here. I've always seen this forum and the diverse group of people within it as joyful escape from the daily pressures of life. Plus it has become an extension of my social life. If the forum itself becomes a source of stress that carries over into my personal life, then I pull back. Because I'm here for the very opposite.
I'm in the forum to try to find some happiness, lively conversation and a respectful exchange of ideas from a diverse group of people with their own unique perspectives. Plus I think all of us benefit socially from meeting new people, even when it's only online in a virtual sense. That's when I think the forum is at its best and fulfilling its highest potential.
A little bit of controversy can be fun at times in getting many people talking at once. But it's a double edged sword. Stirring up drama (just for the sake of it) may get a few or even several responses to start out with. But then it can also backfire...and peter out.
Because many of the rest of the potential posters don't want to wade into drama. They don't want to be pulled into a source of the very stress that they're trying to escape from in the real world. If they see the forum as a hostile place where anything they say may be pounced upon, (no matter how seemingly innocuous the comment may seem to them) and thereby force them to choose between defending themselves or retreating...where's the joy and happiness in that? If and when we disagree, we just need to do it as respectfully as possible.
Of course that's only one facet to the lack of forum activity lately. Once the quality of the models and scenes reach the sustained critical mass of an upward trajectory again...the forum activity, in its inevitably positive tone, will follow.
With some of us having been in here for years, we know it has always been thus.
