Is gay marriage on the horizon in the US?

Oh, for fuck's sake! People are so stupid! Where is that lady?!?! She needs a bitch slap!
Just catching up on older threads, and saw LL's reply. Took me on a stroll down memory lane to our cute, posting fanatic friend, Kodi from Australia. Remember his animated fish slap? That would be good for this lady don't you think LL? I do agree people are stupid, some are just stupid-er than others! LMAO!

Are you saying that the UK has got it right? Are homosexuals and gay marriages really that accepted in the UK? And if it is true, then it must have just happened for your generation. I only ask because I have only known 3 gay Brits, and they all lived here in the US because they were tired of the bigotry at home.

And Robert, the Dutch don't own the market on acceptance either. You may have rights there, but there is still bigotry among the Dutch! I saw this first hand when I was vacationing in Holland some years ago. Our gay Dutch friend and tour guide, told us on more than one occasion, that someone had laughed at our group and referred to us as American fags. This young Dutch man was out to his brothers, but did not want his parents to know about his sexuality.

I'm not trying to pick an argument here, I am just pointing out that everything is not as rosey in the old world, as you and Jon portray it to be.
Bigotry was not a creation of the Americas, it was brought over from Europe. We just took it to a higher level perhaps.

Homosexuality is more accepted here than it was and you can tell that because the gay social and meeting sites are buzzing with people who years ago would not join them in fear of being found out. People are no longer afraid of coming out and the Pride events attract a lot of good press because they are fun events and show the LGBT community as a good community.

I did not say gay marriage was accepted over here and thus far it isn't although it is supposed to be on the agenda for consultation by the govt soon - personally I think it's a waste of time, but that's my personal view. Civil partnerships and legal and binding and that's good enough for me.

The difference between the UK and the US is that you can go to any county in the UK and find a gay friendly pub, hotel or whatever. If you come across any kind of sexual discrimination in any part of the UK, you can call the police and the offenders will be arrested and charged.

Finally, I don't get your argument about bigotry being brought over from Europe. You could actually say that about any subject, both good and bad, simply because of the connections.

Thanks Jon! I guess you are far more fortunate then, than I thought. WE have plenty of gay bars and gay owned establishments here. We have lots of open dialogue. Even AA has gay chapters and believe it or not, gay churches. What we don't have, is good press. You would never read in a newspaper about any Pride events. If a city has a Gay parade, it is allowed, but certainly not openly advertised! I am proud that we have come as fas as we have, but saddened because there is still so much bigotry and hate.

As for the "gay marriage" thing. I too think it is a ridiculous idea. I understand wanting equal rights for same sex unions, but I think there are many, many legal recourses that people can take to assure themselves of that. Not to offend anyone, but for me, a marriage is a man and a woman, period. And the purpose for that is to form a family. And I don't care how butch a lesbian is, she will NEVER be a father. The same for gays, no matter how successful two dads may be at raising a child, neither will EVER be a mother. And that is just my own opinion.

Jon, you are such a beautiful and intelligent young man. Our world needs more boys like you and Blake, and Jason. For you all, there is the promise of a much better life. My heart is full of joy knowing that your generation will raise the mantle even higher. God BLess you all.

Dear JLips,

At any time I would haven given you my father, in exchange for a second mother!

Believe me, I totally understand your statement. And in all honesty, I felt just the same as you for almost my whole life. But, lets face it, without his sperm, the issue is a moot point.

Soon science reaches the point they can create a human embryo from two eggs; sperm is so 21th century!

---

Human embryos “with two mothers” have been created by scientists in a breakthrough that could eradicate a host of hereditary diseases. The embryos, each containing genetic material from one man and two women, have been produced in a project that could lead to the first genetically altered babies being born in Britain.

The research was hailed as a “ray of hope” yesterday for thousands of families afflicted by rare genetic diseases which can lead to heart failure, blindness, diabetes and even death in childhood. The team behind it said it hoped to offer the technique to women within three years. But the study is likely to reopen the debate over the ethics of embryo research and “designer babies”.

Robert, this reads like you loathe men! It gives the impression that you are okay with the thought that men would no longer be required to produce a child (sperm is so 21st century). Am I interpreting this correctly? Surely not!

I read the link you provided and at the risk of bursting your bubble, there is no mention of men being left out of this equation. I think this is a miraculous discovery! Still, I don't see where you got that men were being excluded from this process.
Seriously dude, this whole process is so Biology 101. I am dumbfounded by your suggestion, even more so because you are such an intelligent man.

My gay marriage stance is indeed my own opinion. I have just been out for a drink with a gay friend who I was helping fill out his CV. After helping him out our chat turned to gay marriage and he liked the idea. I expressed my opinion and we had a good discussion about it over a few beers, but it still does not change my stance or indeed his. I'ts a bit like mine and MikeYanks opinion on what we like to watch on this site - he likes his stuff and myself and the majority (LOL) like our stuff.

Regarding your last paragraph - well as much as I appreciate your comments, I would say that the majority of my generation are nowhere near the bar that our predecessors set. A lot of people I know can't even spell or do basic Maths so maybe the worlds clever young 3some are all members of Broke Straight Boys LOL..

A matter of taste

Dear JLipps,

The title reads: Is three a crowd? Two woman, one man... So. Thinking ahead. My question is not if it will be possible for two woman to have a child, but when?

My opinion? These scientist never bother to ask me. Did you receive a questionnaire? Filled in some science poll?

Rest assured I appreciate some flavours off sperm: the sweet, the asparagus, creamy...
but not so much bitter... oef!

I'm not sure how any of this is going to work out but I know it's coming to a head soon. There are several issues before the Supreme Court that are intertwined. I am not a lawyer but I know that the order in which the court hears these issue will directly affect their subsequent ruling's. They are not gay friendly. Therefore ruling on the issue at it's roots will make the other motions moot. Any attorneys, replies appreciated, especially from those with a specialty in Constitutional Law. As far as Obama changing his position after the VP made a statement. Bullshit. The VP would never make such a statement without the bosses permission. That was just an opportunity to let Obama say "well now that I think about it". Obama is hoping to get the gay vote HARD, including all those still closeted. The Republicans are worried about this. The issues that are very important are 1) How many gay Republicans will jump the fence in the voting booth? 2) How many "religious" Democrats will desert the party over this issue (not many in my opinion), 3) Gays by far are more intelligent than straights, make more money, have the ability to devote more time to work and social agendas and as such don't have the daily family responsibilities of a wife and little kids. This will eventually be our win point. Think about it. What man in Washington, acting as a congressional aid, can put in 18 hour days and maintain a family. NONE That is why most of them are probably gay. We won't get marriage anytime soon. I just pray the Supreme Court does not make sure we never get it without an amendment to the Constitution. I am not hopeful.

I have spent my entire life believing that everyone is equal. I try to teach my son that things like money, religion, color, etc, etc, etc, have no bearing on what you can accomplish and who turn out to be, that is about heart, drive, etc.........

Your #3, just stunned me for a few minutes. I sat speechless, and when I could breath again, I had to go back and read it all again, because I had forgotten everything else that you said. There are so many responses swimming around in my head right now, but i am not going to go there............

I will just ask you one question. Did you have parents, and did you think about them when you typed out #3?

Yes I did I still stand by it. It's not a judgment issue it's a fact in my opinion, although I will redact the more intelligent portion, a little over the line. But I still personally believe it. It does not mean a lack of respect to anyone.

Absolute rubbish dude. How can you come out with stuff like that without evidence. It's statements like that that give the gay community a bad name by thinking we are elite - we're not, we're just equal.

Robert (rrhill) has been teaching me not to feel sad or get mad but to instead find the humor and laugh when I come across statements like this....soooooo, I'm ROFLMFAO because it the most hilarious thing I've read in a very long time.

I'll say it again, for you ALL, there is the PROMISE of a much bette life. Of course you guys have not made your mark on society yet, you are all very young. Few people ever do, until they reach their late 30s, 40s, 50s. You guys ARE the future, it belongs to you! I won't even be a memory in 30 years, you will be in your prime, when most people contribute the most of themselves. And knowing that you are all intelligent and open and caring people, you all are going to do wonderful things. I have no doubt that you will raise the bar. What I wish, is that I could come back in another life, and see and be a part of the world that your generation will create. I am excited for you!

Do you think your father and mother designed you with ten fingers and toes? Your current mitochondrial DNA leads back to the first humans. Life is like fire. With one match, you can burn down Rome. A small group of humans lead to 7 billion people. We all share the same mitochondrial DNA, there is hardly any variation.

Right now you are reincarnated, and you get to see the birth of the Internet!

I'm sorry but I wish some of you would read the entire post and stop picking on one particular point you find personally offensive. If you find my opinions without support go to the following links. Apparently some of the members have a serious objection to the "intelligent than straight statement" and as such ignored what followed[/COLOR

Join the club

It's just happens be that I recently joined a club for stupid people. So, yes I have lots of experience with PC's, but experience is the sum of mistakes.

It just felt right to join that club for stupid people. The only requirement is that members do have to make a minimum of three mistakes per day.

Only three mistakes. That is not too hard. I can do that. Bet you that I could become an Elite member within a month!!!

Frontier is smart. I like to read his threads and posts.

But you would not believe how many stupid mistakes I make. Hardly learning from them, because some I repeat over and over again. It's not that I want to stay dumb...

Not long ago, here on this forum I hurted the feelings of my friend Stimpy because I wrote a stupid post about copying and pasting, vague... Stimpy tried to understand what I meant... The only one to blame was me. Just another stupid mistake in a long day.

PS: Waiting for my club membership card. Somebody made a mistake with the administration I heard. Must be a straight person.

PS: [/COLOR should have been [/COLOR]. You missed a bracket.
