One of the only downsides (to me) in going deep back into the archives is the blurriness and lesser video quality of some of the classic Broke Straight Boys scenes. What we don't know is how feasible that idea would be from a standpoint of expense and time. As in, how many labor hours would it take for Mark to pay a computer and videography geek for his services to do this? And then are we talking about doing several hundred (or up to nearly a thousand) vids before the more modern HD cameras came along? Are we talking about a one week 40 hour project...or a month or more?

I suppose that if this were attempted, Mark could assign them to do only the videos with higher ratings of 4.0 or more. Maybe 4.3 or higher? But even that kind of random decision could be controversial with some members though, as some classic scenes with Diesal (just as a for instance) and other legendary stars of the site, had good scenes back in the day with current ratings below 4.0. Maybe some ratings of much older vids have gone down since their heyday, less so due to model or performance quality, but more so because newer members don't like the poorer video quality?

Of course only Mark can know or find out just how quickly one video could be done, and at how much expense. If a 20 minute video takes 20 minutes or an hour or more to re-master...then no way. If these relatively short videos could be done in a matter of seconds or just a couple minutes, then maybe. Though I suspect that if that was the case, that most other sites would have already done this by now. Of course the other point is that if Mark was to spend this kind of money, could he be reasonably sure that he would get all that money back (and hopefully much more than the original investment) in both new subscriptions and more renewals of subscriptions?

I know of one straight paysite who does this with a great many of their more popular "classic" scenes, www.naughtyamerica.com . They introduce it as one of the several new updates for the week, as they are a mega-site with many sub-sites, most of which update 1-2 times per week. I don't know how expensive it would be, but I'm guessing there is software that will do this automatically, it's just a matter of "processing" the content through the software. So far, of all the content on Broke Straight Boys, my favs are the old stuff and if I wasn't a paid subscriber to Broke Straight Boys, if I saw advertisements promoting the most popular, classic stuff being remastered into high def, I'd definitely come back for a second look.

One of the things I *hate* that Rob at www.militaryclassified.com has been doing for years, is merely re-posting already available old content and posing it as a "new update" for the week. Stuff that is already in the archives, and is totally available for any existing member to stream and/or download. But it hasn't even been re-mastered, it's all in the same fuzzy/blurry/poor quality standard def resolution, and looks just as grainy and poorly lit as it did when it was first put online. But if he was to remaster said content into mouth watering high def, it would be looking at the same old content with a new set of eyes, and he probably wouldn't get beat up nearly as bad on all the review sites out there who are ALWAYS complaining about him re-cycling already seen old content and pretending it's "new" (eyes roll).

Of course your main point about remastering the old scenes would make a world of difference. It’s funny how when we didn’t know better, we had no complaints with the old cameras and technology, but when we go back to the early stuff, it looks like an old 8mm film looked in comparison to today’s hi def quality.

But the fact that all of your favorite content is the old stuff, and trying to get “old long-time members, and former customers who used to post regularly to the forum to start posting again”, that is problematical in my opinion. I am still friends with some of the old time members who totally lost interest with the content of the site in recent years. Some still check the site to see stills of the new models and they tell me how hot some of the guys are, and I tell them to take out a trial membership again. I agree that we have some really hot newbies on the site, but for guys like us who enjoyed the thrill of watching a guy who we could believe was brand new to gay porn and possibly to gay sex was a thrill and we never knew what they would do and if they would either progress in their exploration of guy sex, or decide it wasn’t for them. We no longer get that vibe of not knowing in the current state of the site.

I certainly don’t blame David, or Mark and Sha as they use computer generated analytics much as baseball does to get the performers and the type of performances that the analytics tell them will generate the most viewers. But the trick is to interest people like the fans of the old content to be into the new content. I think that horse has left the barn forever………I remain a loyal continuous member here for the forum, and for the occasional new guy that turns me on like Darron, but in 2022, where every curious guy has access to the internet and can do cam shows from home, I don’t expect to ever have a brand new guy film here who gives off the old school straight vibe to me, like they did for me for my first eight to ten years as a member from 2008 and on. It is what it is. The world has moved on and there is nothing we can do to get that genie back in the bottle.

Mike what you say is true but that is what is true of life in general & some change is for the better, other for the worse. Turning to vintage video it is even more stark. Picture quality is so much worse & clothing style different but the sex is the same.

As far as the changes in the emphasis from very straight appearing, often hesitant and reluctant to open up, (figuratively and literally), to gay sex is not something I can adjust to, as what turns me on is in my core and not something I can control. And I am not alone as there are dozens of former members who left for similar reasons and never returned. As I said in my previous post, I am in regular contact with four or five who find porn content elsewhere as Broke Straight Boys is not providing hot content to us.

I can see that. People are afraid of being challenged if folks disagree with their point of view. Years ago Peter told me that he perceived a “queer clique” of forumites who didn’t want to allow anyone new into our clique. That was not correct, but I can see that some get that misimpression. Truth is that I’d love more and more folks to participate.
