By the way, I am wearing the Seattle Seahawks shirt as it was a gift to me, but I am still a Giants fan. There are a few more from Coney Island and later our trip to Central Park this afternoon. Today was an incredibly warm sunny day for NYC in October.

I love you Beth, but I have no idea what you are talking about. What does this pic have to do with being straight????:001_unsure:

Central Park - Part I

It's funny. I live in Brooklyn Heights, a 30 minute subway ride from Central Park but I never go there. I have Brooklyn Bridge Park here, where we may hang out at today, as it is a five minute walk from here, but Central Park is a magnificent 778 acre park right in the middle of the city and one feels like they are in the middle of some rural part of the country with lakes, hills, castles, fountains, and lawns with bicyclists and hikers. And on the perimeter are some of the most magnificent structures in the city. It is breathtaking.

These are the three pics that Peter has sent me so far from his phone. I know he has others and when I get them from him I do want to post them as well.

Today is Peter's last day here and we have a quieter day planned, and may explore my local park which does not require driving or subways. Now I need to get back to sleep to get some energy for the last day of a week that I will never forget.

Those pics of central park are fabulous. Enjoy your last day with Peter (this time). The weather has been very kind to you whereas over here it's been shit the last week. Damn Gulf stream playing games again.

Strawberry Fields & The Dakota

The remaining Central Park pics may interest especially Jon, as he is such a great Beatles fan, (due to the influence from his dad). Strawberry Fields is a section of Central Park near the Datoka, where John and Yoko lived, and Yoko still resides there. Yoko in fact donated one million dollars toward the living memorial to John. There was a guitar player playing Imagine and singing in a soft voice. These pics are images of Strawberry Fields and the Dakota.

The picture of the round imagine plaque doesn't do it justice in it's size. I'm guessing it is 8-10 ft in diameter and inlayed beautifully in the sidewalk. The Dakota bldg the same thing. I have never seen a more fabulous (in my inner gay voice) looking bldg in my life at least that is someones residence. Central Park is just "so big" not joking but probably the size of downtown Seattle. Nice to have a relaxing day today I hope I don't kill Mikeyank being together without the "big apple" to distract me lol

Good day to "get in" some porn.:001_tongue:

Once again, nice pictures! I can almost feel as if I am there! I may have to be the next one to stay a few days with Mikeyank to get the "tour" of the city! LoL! It's like we talked about, something so near and yet, we take for granted. Nice to have someone to share it with isn't it?

It is an amazing city alright!! My Mom called me today to tell me she saw some of my pics on FB, I just love it 76 yo and she's connected!! People do have shit to say about FB (and rightly so) but it keeps me and both of parents current with each other when time doesn't permit a phone call and my Pops has bad hearing.

Thanks for that Mike/Peter - very poignant .. Was that where John Lennon was shot ? I cannot remember.
Sadly that is exactly where it happened. As I recall the story from memory, Mark David Chapman was waiting outside their residence inside the court yard and asked John for his autograph as he and Yoko left the building. John and Yoko went out in their car to do some post production work on their about to be released "Double Fantasy" album. Chapman remained in the courtyard in their absence, and when they got back and exited the limo, Chapman was still waiting and murdered John right there in front of his wife, in front of his home in John's adopted city which he loved so much.

That date, December 8 1980, which was also my mother's birthday, (She and my dad were down in Florida for her birthday that year), and it was also the late Jim Morrison's birthday. I was visiting my friend Tim that evening at his house in Howard Beach Queens, as radio station WPLJ was playing a tribute of Door's songs on Jim's birthday on their Top 10 at 10. I got in my car and was driving on the Belt Parkway back home to Brooklyn Heights and turned on radio station WNEW-FM and I heard the disc jockeys talking about someone being rushed in an ambulance to the emergency room. I didn't know what the fuck was going on, but as I kept listening I became aware that it was John Lennon and in short time I heard that he was pronounced dead.

I had an inclination to keep driving past my exit and to head to the city to go to the Dakota, but it was a work night and I needed to get up early the next day. I later learned that hundreds or more of John's fan did exactly that and held an all night vigil outside of the Dakota and in Central Park, right around where Strawberry Fields is now situated, playing guitars and singing his songs. I thought how intersting that so many of us had that same inclination.

Sorry for such a long answer to your question Jon, but as I started typing, all of my thoughts and emotions of that tragic night came rushing back to me as if it happened last year, and not almost 34 years ago. How tragic. As Peter and I passed the gate to the Dakota yesterday, there were two armed guards at the gate and I commented to Peter how I wish they were there back then as well.

Jeez Mike, that is so emotional. My late father also said how he was shocked when it happened. My dad was working a night shift when it happened and when the news came through he said the whole factory went silent. That's the influence that John had on the public. I personally think he was the biggest influence within the Beatles, closely followed by Paul.

Great post mike. Beautiful pictures of the Dakota. Great book out there about the Dakota. I have it somewhere? Christmas is coming..
Lauren Bacall, Judy Holliday, Leonard Bernstein, Boris Karloff to name a few lived there.
The board wouldn't let Madonna in. To much riff raft.
Wonderful history. Built in 1880s . They say there are many ghosts that walk the halls. Was and looks like it is still one of New Yorks Grandest addresses.
At the time there was not a apt big enough for Jackie. My Dad used to say I new more stuff that would not get me anywhere. LOL This is one.
Loved your trip boys sorry to see it come to a end. And your still friends.:sun:xoxoxo
