Formite trip

I told Peter that he is a "great catch" to a potential husband, (which I know he was to his late partner), as he knows about car engines as he checked under the hood of my car, has a good sense of interior design and is a great cook, as well as other talents that his "boy toy" back home can speak of. And he is a good house guest and fun to be around too. :thumbup1:
This was a great idea, guys...to share this event with the forum. Sorry I wasn't here to experience it as it was unfolding. Reading all the posts, along with all the great pictures, made me feel that I was there with you, and I just want you to know, I had a great time too. I only wish I could have had a bigger part in experiencing that great looking meal...nice to look at, but, I'm sure a lot nicer to taste.

So what's next...San Francisco and crashing at Johnnie's pad?

Kinda reminds me of "Pee Wee's Big Adventure". lol

Wow that was quite the reading, but it brings up a question. WTF does this have to do with my trip to NYC last year??? lol

Peter-

You know by now that I am a rambler (not the former automobile, but I did own and drive one thanks to Mitt Romney - yet another story) when it comes to writing. My apologies as this is all I was trying to say:

Years ago, the internet, "whose access to" is why this forum exists, was in jeopardy of becoming a "rich peoples" tool. Such policy was beaten down. Consequently, you and mikey and so many, many others (here and in like forums around the globe) have been able to "connect" in ways few thought it would do. Today it fosters relationships - both personal and impersonal - depending on the users wishes.

Your trip to NYC to explore under the expert planning of Mikeyank is a result of the internet continuing to be a "free-wheeling" mechanism for such relationships. I was attempting to make the point that your trip and the adventure the three of you could make and take is the perfect example of how the world wide web, left unregulated, allowed for your adventure. Bill Gates used to talk about its potential to do just that. Your trip brings to fruition his belief it could/would/DID happen.

I'm sorry I rambled. I hope that answers your question. Going through that one-year-old thread brought the biggest long-lasting grin to my face to have a virtual realization the predictions of the mid-90's are now everyday realities.

I quite honestly missed having you on the forum last year at this time Robb. I would have loved your daily input as my forum friends daily comments made the adventure even more fun. It definitely felt like a group adventure, even though only myself, Peter and Betu were directly involved.

And as far as what's next, although I haven't discussed it with either party yet, after I either retire or semi retire this coming summer, perhaps a trip to Seattle to visit Peter and then perhaps we could both travel south to San Francisco to visit with our favorite hair dresser, Johnny?????

Maybe, hopefully. :001_unsure::wink::biggrin:

You were a visionary Ertas. And on the right side of history. Thank you for your efforts to keep the internet tax-free and as unregulated as possible. :)

*************************************

Dear Ertas - - -

I can only echo Tampa in saying "WOW - what a fantastic story!" And, thanks on behalf of ALL of us, for your role in keeping the Internet affordable and accessible. . . your work has made a tremendous difference to all of us!!!

Though it might have seemed small to you, at the time, you are a great advocate for liberty of thought and expression. A 21-gun salute, and three marching bands, for you, Ertas :)))

Kisses,
"A" XOXOXOXOXOXO

:offtopic::offtopic::offtopic: Simply a response to Ambi -

Thanks, Ambi!

In reality, I began acting on behalf of a client (the Senior Partner of my law firm was the son of the President and CEO of West Publishiing) and I had a mission to spare them the exhaustive task of creating a tax collection system that would have to accommodate state, national and, possibly international tax collection systems.

I'd been fighting off Lexis/Nexis/Mead in states and at the federal level as they attacked our intellectual property rights as regards the "key pagination" system that generated results for researching court decisions and citations regarding cases that could be used to defend or oppose in current cases before any court of law. I had to make the case that an IP address does not meet the requirements for establishing a nexus for gaining the ability to tax services. In one case, in the State of Illinois, I left the Department of Commerce Copyright offices - got on a plane and arrived in Springfield just four hours before the governor was to sign a bill that would give Mead publishing an open door to commence using their own search tool which was OURS with one modification. Three hours later he announced he could not as it was now obvious to him that it was a direct violation of U.S. copyright codes. It was vetoed. That was when I realized that the internet had to be "free" of regulation and taxation. IP addresses were disavowed as a nexus point (still had to be brick and mortar).

West was sold to Canadian giant Thompson Reuters in 1996. The process began in 1994 and I left the firm to head up a new state agency (The Office of Technology) with a commissioned task of bringing the internet to every citizen in our state as well as digitizing every government agency to provide services on line. Our project was called NorthStar ("L'Etoile du nord") for which we won the Freedom of Information award in 1996 after creating "the Tools of Democracy" and establishing that government jurisdictions cannot "copyright" laws, edicts, rules, etc. in deference to citizen access to know the guidelines for being law-abiding citizens.

Yaddah, Yaddah, Yaddah... I am proud of playing a small role (from NIIAC, to the summits for citizens, to being first in providing government services on line.) I've had opportunities to do things I could have never foreseen as career paths. Always a dreamer but at the same time a very determined "go-getter". Now, I am simply a person who spends too much time on the internet in chats and exploring things I didn't dream would be available at the click of a "mouse". I love life. But, I do find retirement a bit tiring...

Your posts I value reading. Your command of the written word is unparalleled in its sophistication, style and provocation. I look forward to reading anything you write - as well as those incredible videos you post that allow me to slip back to days when looked like those guys displaying their talents physically. I wonder if I am on the road to dementia!!

Oh! Is today the anniversary? I had forgotten all about it. lololololol :001_rolleyes:

Seriously, you know what a memorable week this was for me and in one of the posts on this thread, Damien Kyle said that he wished that he and Paul could have joined us. That would have been very cool. Damien Kyle could have shared the air mattress on the floor with you while Paul and I snuggled up in my bed. lolololol :001_tongue:

Just joking Johnny, I wouldn't have made a move on your Paul. I'm not that kind of guy! lol

Correction: you would have been on the air mattress and Peter and the dynamic duo would've been in a hot 3some!!! and I would've taken pics and sent them to johnny lolololo

I can't believe Mikeyank missed our 5 year anniversary of my trip to NYC. It was only all over the tabloids and the Broke Straight Boys forum.... lol

He told me he remembered. Me too you put it on Facebook. Lol. But we should bring back a link to the thread where you were in New York.

I also have had the honor of a quick Mikeyank tour and a quick Seattle tour that you might remember hosting. Lol.

The best part of the forum for me is the good friends wise cracking as some of them might be, Peter, on here and in “real life”.

I say real life because on here it’s a bit of a TV Soap Opera.

You are right Peter. It was on October 10, 2014 when I picked you up at LaGuardia Airport and got lost driving circles through Elmhurst Queens, lol , I just went through the whole thread again and the pics are amazing, but even more amazing to me was reliving our forum friends who shared the trip with us day by day, including former forumites like Beth, Ambi, Jon, Louis and later Buckeye and Ertas. But the poignant part is seeing the pics of our late buddy Betu, who we spent a day with upstate in New Paltz, and of course our "little buddy" Johnny who we spoke to on the phone every day from his remote "headquarters" in San Francisco. It was fun reading his comments again today reminiscing about our little buddy! Miss you sweet Johnny, every day, still.

And of course current forumites like Stowe and Tampa chimed in from the "peanut gallery" and Damien Kyle made a few guest appearances along the way on this thread as well. Great memories and a great time Peter my friend. Thanks for bringing back this thread on our Five Year Anniversary of The Great "Formite" Trip. And your favorite pic is included on the day when we went to visit The World Trade Center site and memorial and two New York City police officers were taking pictures with folks in the area. And they had just said, "no more pics", when Peter came up to the female officer and she said it would be okay for one more pic because she thought that Peter was so cute. That made Peter's whole week. LOL

will always be here for me to read with fond memories....:smiley-love021:

As you know Peter, I often quote former forumite, Ms. K by saying, “I came for the porn but I stayed for the forum”.

Most forumites I‘ve interacted with on the forum. Others I’ve become PM or email buddies with, and others regular phone buddies. But I’ve only met you, Tampa and the late Richard aka Betu during our trip. That week, the forum came alive with you doing all the tourist stuff in New York and daily phone calls with our dear friend, Frisco Johnny. And we shared every step of the week with the forum and everyone commented from all over the world, England, Amsterdam, Canada and even Broke Straight Boys model, Damien Kyle posted on this thread.

Whatever the future of this site and this forum may bring, that trip eight years ago this week, will remain a highlight of this part of my adult life. Thanks for the great memories.
