I'm having a party in a few weeks and everyone's going to be dressed formally (think Prom!)

I don't want to do the whole tux thing because my drunk ass will get annoyed with a coat. So we found a cute tie (black and blue) and I already have black slacks and a black button up shirt.

Issue being: it looks like I'm gonna be going to a funeral! The only thing with color is my tie!

Is there any way to add some pizzazz to a formal outfit aside from buying a blue shirt to match? A few friends are coming as Marylin Monroe and Lady Gaga, so it doesn't need to be conventionally formal! Creative/Fun is definitely an option!!

Thanks!

Maybe a white or apple red vest, belt, and matching bow tie. Maybe even try a black hat with a white or apple red band like Michael Jackson wore doing billy Jean.

Another option could be to Dawn a fancy toga and dress as Caesar. We are past the Ides of March so if you can avoid the Senate you should do just fine. I do like the first option better. However, very few things would be as comfortable as a toga. Well maybe a kilt... Oh, well I hope that helped...

ITA with Jayman. A vest or cumberbund or even think sash (like royalty) to add some splash is always good. The sash allows use of costume jewelry which can lead to all possibilities. The basic black is a good starting point but it is only a foundation. The rest is built in layers and decorations.

Kilts (both Traditional and Modern) are quite formal, sexy and deffo on the different side. I have the full regalia in Blue McKay. You don't have to go free balling either. Bad point is traditionals are wool and are quite toasty. Mine was special ordered in a lighter weave and it's still warm!

Hats can really make a difference, but some simple jewelry worn across the brow and woven into your hair can be cheap, easy and full of impact. A rainbow choker could be used as a coronet across your forehead like Princess Di used to wear some of her jewelry.

Anyway, just some ideas...... Hope you find what works for you and knock 'em dead!

fedoras always make an outfit hip and sexy. and to really give everyone a mind-fuck, you could do drag! head out to goodwill and buy some crazy ass dress and a cheap wig. don it with costume jewelry. not only will you be able to be comfy (dresses leave a lot of room for leg movement) you will certainly be the talk of the party since im sure they wont see that coming!

Thanks for the ideas everyone! That's definitely a great starting to point to incorporate some style into the outfit!

JW - I think we're totally on the same page! I just bought a fedora last night!

I was also thinking about buying some suspenders and leaving them hanging instead of pulling them over my shoulders. They could double as a fun dance prop! haha

I'll have to see what vest options are available for a decent price next!

Thanks again

you could always add a ribbon around the fedora to add in a little splash of color!

If you did want to go a bit campy you could try wearing a boa that would match your color scheme. You could also use it as a playful prop to toss over someone's head or waist... To bring them in closer for a kiss or a cuddle. :w00t:

Actually I think the word "snuggle" would be more appropriate. haha

You could put long eyelashes on one side with a bit of make up like the movie poster from Clockwork Orange. I had a red velvet vest one time that I used to wear with a black jacket. I really thought I was hot shit. LOL
