Another school shooting

Fortunately Jon the people who are so adamant in promoting their Second Amendment rights (the right to bear arms) and wanting Piers Morgan deported...don't have a legal leg to stand on. Morgan is well protected by the very same document they hold so dear. The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution guarantees freedom of speech and freedom of the press.

And I fully support the first ammendment. We all have the right to the freedom of speach, of religion, of the press, and to peacefully protest what we do not agree with. This means those that believe in gun control can express their opinion and those that are against gun control can express their opinion. Both have the right to do so.

Maybe one of you guys could explain to this dumb Brit why you have ammendments ? If the constitution was written incorrectly why didn't they re write it lol. Sorry, I'm feeling dumb today lol

After the document was completed, they felt they needed a list of rules in it to protect the rights of citizens. They added the first 10 ammendments to do this. These are also known as the bill or rights. The document is designed to change with the times, but to keep opprotunists from changing it on a whim, they set it up so that it reflects the general populace. Political parties had not yet been formed when this was done. 2/3 of the members of each house of congress have to pass it and then the ammendment must be ratified by the states. I can't remember right off if it is 2/3 of the states or just a majority. Another option available if the representatives in Washington DC will not cooperate is for the states to agree on a constitutional convention and send representatives there who will discuss an ammendment and vote on it. If it passes there, it must still be ratified by the states. If this is done, the ammendment is in effect. It doesn't matter what the president or the supreme court think of it. They are bound by it and violation of such a law is justification for action on the part of the states and/or people. Ammendments are added to adapt to changes around us requiring some change in the constitution. Many would like to get rid of the electoral college because it is a waste of time and money now, but an ammendment is needed to do this. Still, the constitution protects our rights as citizens of the United States and it must stay in place so it can continue to do so. Changes must be made within the system prescribed by that document, or the United States no longer exists and we need to stop pretending otherwise and let the states decide on what action they want to take in response. I don't expect you to completely understand this, Jon. The UK is a unitarian government. The United States is a federation. They don't work the same. Nothing against you personally, but you haven't lived under this system and I don't expect you to understand it any more than I understand the government in your country. I have never been there and have only studied the system there briefly, not in detail.

I was goint to put up a thread about predictions for 2013 but then saw this thread and guess as long as the US maintains it's current policy then this type of atrocity is definitely on the cards. Whether it's in a church, a cinema, a shopping mall, a school, you people must be watching your backs very carefully.

I hope to God it doesn't happen, but I wouldn't bet against it.

Robert et al,

What a complete prick this Alex Jones is or was. I'm afraid if I was an American then I would be ashamed of his behaviour but not surprised. It appears whenever or wherever these people appear they shoot off the hip. I mean, fancy offering the show presenter to have a fight in the boxing ring - omg what a pillock.

You guys are going to have to stop these radicals from spoiling your country otherwise people are not gonna visit and tourism is a big industry over there.

[h=1]NRA releases an iPhone shooter one month after blaming violent media for Sandy Hook tragedy[/h]
Violent movies and video games are the cause of real world violence like the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting according to the National Rifle Association. That’s why it’s made it’s own shooter for the iPhone, appropriate for ages 12 and up.
On Dec. 21, National Rifle Association CEO Wayne LaPierre blamed the monstrous actions of Sandy Hook shooter, Adam Lanza, not on mental illness or easy access to a vast array of firearms, but on violent video games and movies (along with several other culprits). People don’t kill people, and neither do guns, according to LaPierre and the NRA. It’s what you play and watch that drives you to violence. Just as LaPierre called for armed police officers and security guards to be placed in every school across the United States – a strategy that proved woefully ineffective during the Columbine massacre in 1999 – he also called on the federal government to reign in violent media. How strange then that the NRA felt the need to release its very own first-person shooter.

[h=1]St. Louis school shooting injures 2 at Stevens[/h]
January 16, 2013 (ST. LOUIS) -- A St. Louis college administrator who was attacked in his office by a gunman who then allegedly shot himself is expected to fully recover, the school said Wednesday.

Greg Elsenrath, the financial aid director at the Stevens Institute of Business & Art, is recovering from surgery following Tuesday's attack, the school posted on its Twitter and Facebook pages.

"We are very happy to report this morning that Financial Aid Director, Greg Elsenrath, came through surgery last night with flying colors and is expected to make a full recovery," the Facebook posting read. "Greg appreciates all your thoughts and prayers and we will continue to update him with your kind messages."

The school encouraged students to reach out to instructors and their peers for support.
"This unimaginable act of violence has proved the strength of our bonds as a Siba family and we intend to come out of this event with those bonds intact and stronger than ever," it said.
Officials didn't immediately respond to phone messages seeking further comment.
Authorities say the gunman, a part-time student who they haven't publicly identified, shot Elsenrath in the chest before shooting himself in the torso. He is also recovering from his wounds following surgery, and St. Louis Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce's spokeswoman said charges could be filed against him later Wednesday.
