5-year-old boy accidentally shoots, kills 2-year-old sister in Cumberland County

Published: April 30, 2013
A 5-year-old boy who was playing with a .22-caliber rifle accidentally shot and killed his 2-year-old sister in Cumberland County on Tuesday afternoon, according to a news release from the state police.

The shooting happened just after 1 p.m. at a home on Lawson's Bottom Road. The 2-year-old was taken to Cumberland County Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. An autopsy has been scheduled for Wednesday. Cumberland County Coroner Gary White identified the girl as Caroline Starks.

He said the children's mother was at home when the shooting occurred, and the gun was a gift the boy received last year.

"It's a Crickett," he said. "It's a little rifle for a kid. ...The little boy's used to shooting the little gun." White said the gun was kept in a corner, and the family did not realize a shell had been left in it. He said the shooting will be ruled accidental.

"Just one of those crazy accidents," White said.

Oh, my :/ that's very sad that boy poor boy must be traumatized by it after shooting his sister but a child his age should not of had a gun regardless there wast any bullets in it. Now parents are left with the death of their little girl, and a boy who may need counseling for a long time.

What the hell?! Why the hell would a grandma even have a gun in the first place around her grandson, kids will go thru anything and everything and get into trouble. She was a meth head and in my area up north we're known for our meth creation. It's a sad and disgusting drug to get involved in ha. Shame on the gma. Vey sad for her daughters or sons lost child.

And, we don't have the kind of punishments here, like some countries still do. No public stonings, instantaneous death by hanging in the town square.........

Do some countries still even hang people?

Do some countries still even hang people?

Some of the Arabs do, but some of your states still DO have the death penalty, albeit that the guilty party waits 20 years to get executed. Many people in the uk would vote for the death penalty too, however, there has been so many injustice in our criminal system, that people would be afraid that they would be hanging the wrong person.
