Another school shooting

Uhhh- its fucked up with all these shootings happening, however, if we put a ban pn guns, our crime rate will raise tremondously just like how Australia and England put a band onguns. Just because they are out of the stores doesnt mean they are off the streets and illegal.. Also, doyou really trust our shady government to be the only ones with lethal weapons? Like what i they wanted to go Crazy on us and throw down socialism, tell me what to do and how to live my life, what to eat when to eat... Fuck that, i think its not the sales of guns we need to worry sbout- i believe everyone who wants a gun should get a paych eval- will also create more jobs and take more time to get a gun in someones hands.

Love ya Liam, but I have to disagree with you on your comment regarding gun control being responsible for a rise in crime in Australia. This is an issue very close to my heart.

Although I don't have any official figures in the 25 years since the laws on owing a gun were dramatically changed I have never ever heard that gun reform caused a rise in the number of crimes where a gun was used to kill, harm or threaten. I'm not saying crimes involving guns don't still happen, they do, but it's usually stupid people killing other stupid people. It's rare to read or hear that an average person going about their every day business has been shot dead.

The laws were changed primarily to prevent mass murder by gun. Since the law made it impossible for the average person to own a gun there has not been another mass shooting in Australia; that's almost 25 years free of mass murder by gun.

It's your country, your laws, your business and I can't see your gun laws changing any time soon, but don't ever think for one second gun reform doesn't work because it does.

It's so disappointing when your governing authority has no control over such a group as the NRA. To the outside world it stinks of MAFIA who control certain parts and not the US authorities.

Not sure exactly what to say to all this. It's really sad how so many young people are just committing such a terrible crime. I remember when I heard about the Chardon Shooting in Ohio and I watch the news about the boy who was going to be put away and he said to the family "The hand that I used to pull the trigger with is the hand I'll be jacking off with for the rest of my life." How sickening and said that is. I think, that our government should at least try and put some regulations on gun control, even tho its part of our constitutional right to bare arms, they should at least do something about it. Too many people have died already.

That is exactly the problem, and our founding fathers who wrote the constitution intentionally made it so difficult to amend it, unless there is an overwhelming sentiment for change, and there is a considerable segment of our population who want to protect their right to "bear arms", so there is no easy solution.

Gun control will not work just as the war on drugs and war and prohibition failed. As long as there are unregistered and black market weapons any criminal can get a gun illegally cause it will become supply and demand,

If our founding fathers were here they'd be pissing all over our faces for how the Government is dealing with this situation, too. You can't keep track of all these guns, there's just way to many people owning them nowadays. The founding fathers really did make if difficult to work around the amend, but I'm certain something will come up. It almost feels like, kids aren't gonna be safe anymore while being in school, school is supposed to be a safe learning enviornment. First, you had to deal with bullying, then you have to worry about a situation as to where if someone came into the school and started shooting.

This is so true. People are always going to smoke pot no matter what. I just so don't see the point in making that illegal you can create so many jobs not to mention hiring more law enforcement in areas that need it. Then again, people are nuts, so who know. You can't control them tho I have to agree with you on that as well with gun control.

I remember seeing something like, that on the history channel. Is it called the Illuminati? haha. Correct me if I'm wrong?

Gun control laws work great everywhere else in the world.

Yeah, but when you have a constitution that has been around for hundreds of years and every single American knows that you have a right to bare arms it makes it a little complicated

And, we don't have the kind of punishments here, like some countries still do. No public stonings, instantaneous death by hanging in the town square.........

No but you have the electric chair or death by lethal injections - but you have to suffer for 15 years on death row to get those.

Ammo shortage...

Local law enforcement face ammo shortage as gun owners, DHS stock up

Local law enforcement agencies across the country are facing an ammo shortage, as gun owners concerned about new laws at the federal and state level stock up on firearms and bullets.

At the same time, the Department of Homeland Security has said it wants to buy more than 1.6 billion rounds of ammunition in the next four or five years -- which could put further strain on the supply.

The shortage, coupled with an increase in prices, comes as many gun owners head to the stores in anticipation of new gun control laws. States like Colorado and New York have already approved such legislation, while Democrats move toward bringing a bill to the Senate floor. At the moment, the congressional bill does not include an assault-weapons ban, but a ban is expected to be floated as an amendment.

Still, what one official described as "panic-buying" set in, as lawmakers rallied to draft new legislation in the wake of a series of tragic mass shootings last year, from Aurora, Colo., to Oak Creek, Wis., to Newtown, Conn. In Tennessee's Hamilton County, the sheriff's department says its officers will be given fewer bullets when they train at the range.

"The concern over firearms availability and ammunition availability and potentials of gun control certainly has impacted the availability of ammunition purchased locally," training coordinator Jody Mays said, according to WDEF
Earlier this year, Rollingwood Police Chief Dayne Pryor told that "panic-buying" is contributing to a situation where officers trying to order new firearms are being forced to wait. He said the city, which is outside Austin, has been told to expect wait times to purchase AR-15s and ammunition.

Newtown residents' fury over NRA robocalls urging them to oppose gun control just three months after shooting massacre at Sandy Hook elementary school

  • Gunman killed 20 first-graders and six teaching staff at school on December 14
  • Residents have received automated calls and postcards supporting gun owners' rights

Newtown residents are being flooded with National Rifle Association robocalls just three months after the town was left devastated by the shooting massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
The automated calls have been urging people to oppose gun control proposals. On December 14, a shooter killed 20 first-graders and six teaching staff in the small Connecticut town.

Residents said the automated calls from the NRA began last week and urge people to tell their state legislators to oppose gun control proposals.

Some also said they received postcards from the NRA supporting gun owners' rights.
'It's ridiculous and insensitive,' Newtown resident Dan O'Donnell said. 'I can't believe an organization would be so focused on the rights of gun owners with no consideration for the losses this town suffered.'
A message seeking comment was left on Monday at the NRA's headquarters in Fairfax, Virginia.

This was a sad day when I herd about this. I was on FB one day and a father posted something that his son wrote to Santa asking him to take his presents and give them to the kids in heaven. It was a really nice letter that little boy wrote ha.

Six-Year-Old Dies After Being Shot By Boy, 4

Authorities are considering whether to charge anyone after a boy took a rifle from his house and shot his playmate.

A six-year-old boy has died after being shot with a rifle by his four-year-old neighbour while the two were playing outside. Ocean County prosecutor's office spokesman Al Della Fave confirmed the death of Brandon Holt in hospital but declined to provide further details.

Authorities have been considering whether to charge anyone after the younger boy obtained a .22-caliber rifle from his family’s home in Toms River, New Jersey. Police Chief Michael Mastronardy said the children were outside the four-year-old's home when the boy went inside, got the rifle and shot the six-year-old about 15 metres away.

It is not clear if the four-year-old pulled the trigger or if the rifle accidentally discharged. The parents of the younger boy were home at the time. Debi Coto, who lives a few doors down from where the shooting occurred, said: "I'm sad for the children involved and their families, but I'm angry with whoever owns that gun and allowed a little child to get hold of it. "A four-year-old can't load a gun," she added. Ms Coto said the families of the two children involved had not lived in the neighbourhood for very long and she did not know them well.

4-year-old boy accidentally shoots, kills Tennessee deputy's wife

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A 4-year-old boy grabbed a loaded gun at a family cookout and accidentally shot and killed the wife of a sheriff's deputy, authorities said on Monday.

The shooting Saturday evening was inside the Lebanon home of Wilson County Deputy Daniel Fanning. Fanning was showing his weapons to a relative in a bedroom when the toddler came in and picked up a loaded gun on the bed, officials said. The weapon discharged as soon as the child picked it up, hitting 48-year-old Josephine Fanning, said Wilson County Sheriff Robert Bryan.

Josephine Fanning was pronounced dead at the scene. The child was not related to her or her husband. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation was called in because the investigation involved an official with the sheriff's department. Bryan said the shooting was a terrible accident. "Danny Fanning is going to have to live with it," the sheriff said. "Our prayers, our thoughts go out to him and the child."

The sheriff said the guns were normally stored in a safe, and the deputy had placed one on a bed to get to another gun. "Within seconds this small 4-year-old comes into the room, unbeknownst to the officer, and just picked up the gun and shot her. "Bryan said Fanning has worked in the department for about eight or nine years and is a school resource officer. He said he would wait for the TBI to complete its investigation before making a decision about what to do with the deputy, but did not anticipate that the shooting would affect Fanning's job.

The gun was not Fanning's service weapon, TBI spokeswoman Kristin Helm said.

Call Congress

Demand that your elected officials support common sense legislation to end gun violence

When you are connected to your senator's office tell them three things:

  1. Tell them your name and where you are from.
  2. Tell them to support Senate Bill 649 which requires criminal background checks for every gun sale in America.
  3. Ask them to support legislation that bans assault weapons and limits high-capacity magazines.
