Yes. In the documentary they gave a percentage. I forget the exact number but I think it was something like 70-80%. And even gay guys sued Bruce Weber for sexual harassment. Many got paid in settlements. It was a sexy but sleazy operation.
Wow. The video clip paints a pretty damning indictment of racism, classism, exploitation and corruption, elitism and overall prejudice. Anybody not born with a near perfect gene collection is pushed to the side. It's unfortunate enough that that message is sent through a for-profit branding exercise. But the fact that the corporate culture from the top down was totally based on that premise is a sad testament to our emotional and spiritual maturity.
And don't worry. The irony (and perhaps not just a little bit of hypocrisy?) is not lost on me as I make these statements. I acknowledge that I personally sit here on a porn site where I and we seek to view mostly the best looking specimens of the male body. And no less than to the exclusion of many other body types. In fact many types of other male physiques, races, shades and hues, body ornamentations, etc, are excluded on some porn sites just as A&F does and did.
I guess the one distinction I can make is that porn and gay porn is a private adult choice. And there are indeed sites that offer an array of body types, blends of every race of the rainbow, different shades and hues, those that celebrate body ornamentation and so on. Plus, porn is not blazoned across 50 feet tall public billboards, the sides of buses, full page magazine ads, digital ads, and tv commercials for viewing by just about all children, teens and adults. Enough so as to make them feel ashamed, body-shamed or left out of the "better" or "cooler" side of the popular culture they're immersed in if their bodies don't conform to some elitist near perfect wasp-ish ideal.
