Sandusky!!!!!

I wonder what will happen with his wife? She claims she didn't know what was going on in their house, but the guys said she did...

Often the wife of an abuser, has been abused mentally and physically by him as well; another victim.

Stimpy is spot on; its the victim that now needs the attention; and Ms. K. the epitome of understatement was saying what I believe to my core; Ms. S. knew of this for years and chose her lifestyle over her husbands "predilections." He won't last a year in prison. The headline and attention that his killer will receive make him a major target since that crime is the lowest of the low in prison.

He will actually probably be in protective custody and never be exposed to the general population. But it will be a miserable way for him to spend his remaining years on earth, which is of course just what he deserves, for a once powerful defensive coordinator for Penn State, and the perceived heir apparent for Joe Paterno, and now this, to rot in confinement.

If things go the way they usually do, then you are correct Mike, Sandusky will be placed, not in protective, but rather "segregated" custody for a few months for medical/psychological evaluation. After that, unless his attorney and he request protective custody, the state of pennsylvania may choose to place him in general lock up. However, in the interest of protecting him during the appeal process, it is also possible that the state itself may order him to protective custody of one sort or another.

Why should the taxpayer pay for this guys protection ? Put him inside with the rapists and murderers, that's what I say. We're all getting too PC these days.

I agree with Jon. While our constitution does protect people from excessive punishment, we have taken it too far and forgotten the ones harmed by the crime. We've gone soft on our prisoners.

I feel terrible for her. I know that she had to be aware of something, specially since the guys said she did. What a horrible position to be in. Its not unlike so many women who keep quiet out of a sense of fear. I feel that she too is a victim of this man. I hope people will not judge her too harshly.

This country goes too far in protecting prisoner's rights. Why the hell should they have rights? If you want rights, don't break the law! It's really quite simple.

I am sick of hearing of prisoners who get the best medical treatment, while good honest, hard-working Americans cannot get that same kind of cAre! ANd who gives a flip if they have air-conditioining, and 3 square meals a day, and TV, and the best gym equipment, to keep their bodies in shape. We have kids who go to bed hungry, right here in America! But not prisoners! What the hell is wrong with our society?!?

Prisoners SHOULD suffer. Maybe then they would not want to be in prison! I need to stop, or I won't sleep thinking of all this injustice!

Well, JLipps, I can guarantee that if those families think that she knew what was happening to their children, they are judging her very harshly. Parents can be viciously protective of their children, and have harsh judgement against those that they feel have wronged them.

My biggest concern when all this came to light was that maybe the state wouldn't bring a strong enough case to put him behind bars. From all accounts it was a fair trial. He had a lawyer to defend him. He was found guilty. Society has been able to put a monster where he belongs. Behind bars. It's a shame though that the damage cannot be undone. The fact that he was able to get away with it for so long is appalling. Good men (and probably even his wife) stood by and did nothing to protect the children.

Agree J. He took away any rights he had when he committed those horrendous crimes. He should rot in hell. By the way, we often see chain gangs on TV - do they still exist in America ?

Write the Supreme Court their the ones that put Corrections Departments in this mess in the first place. It is the prisoners who run the prisons all the corrections officers do is make sure they don't escape. These guys get medical treatment you and many others may not be able to afford. Why do an organ transplant or Triple Coronary Bypass on a prisoner serving natural life for murder? Natural life is natural live (when u die u die) that organ should not be given to a condemned murderer. The whole system is fucked up.

Vote the bastards out then..

While we can vote our president, senators, and representatives out, federal level judges are appointed, not elected. They are the cause of many of these problems. We need to make our congressmen accountable when they do not keep these judges in their place. The system of checks and balances is not being utilized correctly. When judges excede their authority and start passing laws, congress needs to step in and do something about it. Until this happens, it won't change.

I beg to differ...Christ told us..."He that is without sin, throw the first stone!"

To my fellow forumites, consider the other approach below;

Despite how personally dispicable an individual prisoner may be, having been "tried and convicted" only goes so far as the justice system is one would only reasonably agree that they should serve out their sentence. REGARDLESS. THEY NEVER CEASED BEING ONE OF GOD'S CREATION AND, AS SUCH, ARE CAPABLE OF BEING REDEEMED WITH THE GRACE OF GOD. Aren't we all sinners also, to some degree at least?

However, this is assuming ONE MAJOR ASPECT OF THE LEGAL SYSTEM IS FULLY IN PLAY. ALL TO OFTEN INDIVIDUALS HAVING THE LEAST OF FINANCIAL RESOURCES ARE THE LEAST WELL REPRESENTED IN THE JUSTICE SYSTEM. WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE OUTRAGEOUS DISPARITY OF MINORITIES AND POOR WHITES, ONE MUST CONCLUDE ONE BASIC PRINCIPAL OF OUR CONSTITUTION IS NO LONGER IN PLAY, NAMELY EQUAL JUSTICE FOR ALL! wE HAVE A SYSTEM WHERE DISTRICT PROSECUTORS ARE DEEMED FIT ONLY IN ACCORDANCE WITH THEIR CONVICTION RATE, FIRST AND FOREMOST. WHO CARES IF DUE PROCESS IS FOLLOWED, AS LONG AS IT IS NOT SOME RELATED OR CLOSE TO YOU! INSTEAD, WE HAVE AN AMALGAMATION OF DEBTOR PRISONS FILLED WITH CRIMINALS LACKING THE EDUCATION AND GOOD FORTUNE TO FIND APPROPRIATELY LEGALLY SANCTIONED JOBS, LEAVING VERY LITTLE BEHIND OTHER THAN CRIMES OF OPPORTUNITY COMMITTED AGAINST THE WEAKEST IN OUR SOCIETY! IS THIS, I ASK, ALL THAT AMERICA NOW PROMISES TODAY?

OUR COURTROOMS HAVE A CONFUSING ARRAY OF UNRELATED LAWS AND WE ARE ESSENTIALLY OPERATING WITH AN OUTDATED AND CAPRICIOUS SYSTEM AT ITS CORE! OUR FOUNDING FATHERS NEVER ENVISIONED THIS, AS THIS WAS AMONG THE JUSTIFIABLE REASONS FOR OUR REVOLUTION IN THE FIRST PLACE - FREEDOM OF WRONGFUL PROSECUTION! People always talk big when they want the government to do something, but, then when the bill is due, THEY ONLY WANT TO TURN THE OTHER WAY IN DENIAL! THE EXISTING US SYSTEM OF JUSTICE HAS BEEN EITHER BOUGHT OR DISCOUNTED BY EACH TAX PAYER'S FINANCIAL SUPPORT AND, UNFORTUNATELY THIS MESS IS WHAT WE GET WITHOUT ALL THE NECESSARY BUTTONS AND BELLS NEEDED TO OPERATE A TRULY MASSIVE SYSTEM!!! WE ARE MORE INTENT TO DEVISING NEW WAYS TO CONVICT OUR CITIZENS THAT TO ACTUALLY EDUCATE AND RETRAIN OUT PRISONERS TO BECOME VIABLE ADDITIONS TO SOCIETY AFTER SERVING THEIR TIME. And the fact that we rank among the highest number of inmates proportionally worldwide, right along with some of the most oppressive dictatorships in the world today, WE NEED TO RETHINK OUR WHOLE JUSTICE SYSTEM. WE ARE DEFINITELY NOT THE SHINING EXAMPLE TO THE WORLD OF HOW DEMOCRACY SHOULD BE PRACTICED AS WE ONCE THOUGHT!.

REMEMBER THAT CHRIST HIMSELF SAID, THAT..."Whatever you do unto the least of these, you do unto me." iF WE TRULY ARE THE GOD FEARING NATION WE CLAIM TO BE, HOW CAN THIS ALARMING DISPARITY IN SOCIAL JUSTICE EXIST HERE, WHETHER YESTERDAY, TODAY, OR TOMORROW? ISN'T IT TIME WE RETURN TO OUR COUNTRY'S NATIONAL ASPIRATIONS AND BASIC BELIEFS!

Sincerely convicted as charged - a "bleeding liberal on prison reform" asking only that we return to holier ground,

Stimpy

Sorry Stimpy, but I'm not even going to quote that bullshit. Didn't the bible also say that homosexuality was a sin ? Now look at most churches and there are reports of preachers sexuality assaulting alter boys. This is one stance babe, that we are not going to agree on...

Dear Stimpy,
all of the "bleeding heart " part aside, you must be aware that once the prisoner enters the system; and by prisoner, I refer only to those convicted of high felonies; that the only true protection they are afforded is their own association with other prisoners. Child molesters and rapists earn the bottom spot on the totem pole of popularity, Sadly, society cannot always regulate the behavior of those we incarcerate as completely as we might wish.

As for the wife of this particular felon, while we cannot convict her yet, one hopes she will develop some compassion for the families of all the boys involved, and come clean with any info she may possess that can aide the police in this continuing investigation.

i won't even comment on the first part of this, This topic gets me fuming!
However, I agree with what you have to say about this woman. Her husband is now a convicted felon, she need not fear him anymore. Time for her to come clean.

This man changed my thoughts about corporeal punishment and true justice. This case effected my immediate family in significant and enduring ways and with consequences. I cried when he was executed. From relief that my family could finally put fear to rest and feel that justice was served. And I cried because it seemed barbaric. I will always have mixed feelings about punishment. It's ingrained in me as a student of humanity. We have to live with our decisions and carry with us the ramifications of our actions. If we don't, we aren't truly human.

In my brain, I disagree with the death penalty. It's too easy for the guilty. However, the real relief I have seen in the victims is significant enough that I can't completely discount it as a means of putting the victims at ease and giving them peace. Troubling, it is. To the core.

It's always difficult to believe if the partners of the guilty party are associated with the crimes. But I find it very hard that the wife in this case did not know what was going on.

In the uk we have had some major children murders of late. The latest was of a family in Derbyshire who lost 5 children to a fire whilst they were out. In all such cases what happens is that a few hours after the initial report, they get the parents on tv doing a press conference. You normally find the parents sobbing away and it is at this stage that I can usually see if theyre guilty or not. There have been too many child cases recently which has eventually been pinned down to the parents or parent but have ultimately proved that the other parent knew what was going on. As I said most cases start with - if its a murder - plea in front of the tv cameras to catch the murderer. A few days later you normally find the parents or relatives been arrested.
