Sandusky!!!!!

To my fellow forumites, consider the other approach below;

Despite how personally dispicable an individual prisoner may be, having been "tried and convicted" only goes so far as the justice system is one would only reasonably agree that they should serve out their sentence. REGARDLESS. THEY NEVER CEASED BEING ONE OF GOD'S CREATION AND, AS SUCH, ARE CAPABLE OF BEING REDEEMED WITH THE GRACE OF GOD. Aren't we all sinners also, to some degree at least?

However, this is assuming ONE MAJOR ASPECT OF THE LEGAL SYSTEM IS FULLY IN PLAY. ALL TO OFTEN INDIVIDUALS HAVING THE LEAST OF FINANCIAL RESOURCES ARE THE LEAST WELL REPRESENTED IN THE JUSTICE SYSTEM. WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE OUTRAGEOUS DISPARITY OF MINORITIES AND POOR WHITES, ONE MUST CONCLUDE ONE BASIC PRINCIPAL OF OUR CONSTITUTION IS NO LONGER IN PLAY, NAMELY EQUAL JUSTICE FOR ALL! wE HAVE A SYSTEM WHERE DISTRICT PROSECUTORS ARE DEEMED FIT ONLY IN ACCORDANCE WITH THEIR CONVICTION RATE, FIRST AND FOREMOST. WHO CARES IF DUE PROCESS IS FOLLOWED, AS LONG AS IT IS NOT SOME RELATED OR CLOSE TO YOU! INSTEAD, WE HAVE AN AMALGAMATION OF DEBTOR PRISONS FILLED WITH CRIMINALS LACKING THE EDUCATION AND GOOD FORTUNE TO FIND APPROPRIATELY LEGALLY SANCTIONED JOBS, LEAVING VERY LITTLE BEHIND OTHER THAN CRIMES OF OPPORTUNITY COMMITTED AGAINST THE WEAKEST IN OUR SOCIETY! IS THIS, I ASK, ALL THAT AMERICA NOW PROMISES TODAY?

OUR COURTROOMS HAVE A CONFUSING ARRAY OF UNRELATED LAWS AND WE ARE ESSENTIALLY OPERATING WITH AN OUTDATED AND CAPRICIOUS SYSTEM AT ITS CORE! OUR FOUNDING FATHERS NEVER ENVISIONED THIS, AS THIS WAS AMONG THE JUSTIFIABLE REASONS FOR OUR REVOLUTION IN THE FIRST PLACE - FREEDOM OF WRONGFUL PROSECUTION! People always talk big when they want the government to do something, but, then when the bill is due, THEY ONLY WANT TO TURN THE OTHER WAY IN DENIAL! THE EXISTING US SYSTEM OF JUSTICE HAS BEEN EITHER BOUGHT OR DISCOUNTED BY EACH TAX PAYER'S FINANCIAL SUPPORT AND, UNFORTUNATELY THIS MESS IS WHAT WE GET WITHOUT ALL THE NECESSARY BUTTONS AND BELLS NEEDED TO OPERATE A TRULY MASSIVE SYSTEM!!! WE ARE MORE INTENT TO DEVISING NEW WAYS TO CONVICT OUR CITIZENS THAT TO ACTUALLY EDUCATE AND RETRAIN OUT PRISONERS TO BECOME VIABLE ADDITIONS TO SOCIETY AFTER SERVING THEIR TIME. And the fact that we rank among the highest number of inmates proportionally worldwide, right along with some of the most oppressive dictatorships in the world today, WE NEED TO RETHINK OUR WHOLE JUSTICE SYSTEM. WE ARE DEFINITELY NOT THE SHINING EXAMPLE TO THE WORLD OF HOW DEMOCRACY SHOULD BE PRACTICED AS WE ONCE THOUGHT!.

REMEMBER THAT CHRIST HIMSELF SAID, THAT..."Whatever you do unto the least of these, you do unto me." iF WE TRULY ARE THE GOD FEARING NATION WE CLAIM TO BE, HOW CAN THIS ALARMING DISPARITY IN SOCIAL JUSTICE EXIST HERE, WHETHER YESTERDAY, TODAY, OR TOMORROW? ISN'T IT TIME WE RETURN TO OUR COUNTRY'S NATIONAL ASPIRATIONS AND BASIC BELIEFS!

Sincerely convicted as charged - a "bleeding liberal on prison reform" asking only that we return to holier ground,

Stimpy

Addition to prior statement:"

When related to Sandusky, this is pretty much a solved case with little room left for debate. My prior statement as a "bleeding liberal on prison reform" mostly centers around my concerns for all those state operated prisons that, not only have prison conditions totally unlike those found in our federal penitentiaries, but are operating usually with a severly overburdoned with limited financial or educational resources for rehabilitation and overfilled inmate populations. The chances of coming back to society unharmed and ready to take their proper place in legal society is practically "nill", even on a good day!

What disturbs me more is that we have people falsely prosecuted in a highly dysfunctional judicial system. What would it be like being in their shoes, having done nothing wrong in the first place. All too often DNA is not used due to lack of funds and innocent people remain behind bars for decades with little or not hope for justice.

Sincerely troubled,

Stimpy

Should of been 45 of 45, what a peace of work! I just don't understand how someone can hurt a chiled, it really makes me sad to know stuff like this is happening:( My heart goes out to the kids!

this kind of behavior has been around for thousands of years! Perhaps to the beginning of man. What's more, there are still cultures that do not see this as abuse, necessarily. I remember many decades ago, learning that in a certain culture, it was quite commonplace for a middle-aged man to have a wife, a mistress, and a boytoy. The boytoy usually a young boy of about 14. Later on I discovered that this particular culture was not the only one that practiced this behavior. Look at the Catholic church, another prime example!

I fear that this type of behavior will be with us until man is an extinct species.

Having practiced medicine for 38 years and 17 of that part time in corrections I can tell you several things amaze me. This part dies not apply to Sandusky. Every day I work in prison we get a CSC offender in their 70's I ask why? You would think if the guy was doing this all these years he would have been caught by now AND it is almost always a grandchild. WHAT THE FUCK. Does the brain just go wacko in some guys that they would abuse their lovely grandchild? As far as Sandusky, he is a classical Narcissistic Personality Disorder, Delusional and completely believes he did nothing wrong and that it was his duty as a mentor to give his seed to these young men. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pederasty

Cumrag27 again makes some very interesting points. I would copy and paste certain sections but I don't know how to go that far yet. First I would like to respectfully remind him he does not have to deal with these people on a daily basis. Corrections is not for the weak of heart, prison grievance's for ridiculous reasons must be investigated all taking up a lot of time and money. I personally have always held a suspicion that one reason we have such a large prison population is the use of drugs by mothers are carrying their children, but that is just an unproven idea. As far as the Court system. Never get on their radar, your right they don't care about quilt on innocence. The Prosecutor only wants good stats so he can run for District Judge. Most of them are pigs. Yes some men do make mistakes, do their time and never go back again. I have several in my practice and like all of them. Unfortunately they are the few and far between.

If anyone examines the history of mankind in these areas, they will see that JLipps is exactly right. Ancient Greece was famous for such relationships, and we see it every day in the newspapers today, that adult men and in some cases women, are having sexual relations with children. It appears to be an inborn instinct in a certain percentage of the population.

Since being aware of the desires of pedophiles, I have been very grateful, that I've never desired underage youths myself, for apparently a person with these desires will never lose them, and I understand that a form of medical castration is the only way to prevent it from happening, although even with the inability to achieve an erection, they probably would commit other sexual acts with children if given the opportunity.

I see no solution to this condition, and if I were a parent, I would be very concerned for my child as we hear of pedophiles in so many areas where they can come into contact with children, from the clergy, youth leaders, sports coaches, scout leaders, etc. It is a huge problem that I fear there is no solution for, as this condition has gone on as long as there has been recorded history.

Mainland Europe and not the UK fixed this problem years ago. The legalised prostitution, opened gay bars with secret back rooms and also opened Peep shows and areas were you could j/o or invite a guy to j/o with you in a booth. It certainly took a lot of paedophilia crime off the streets.

Thought I should weigh in on this portion of JLipps' statement. I have spent a major portion of my life as catholic clergy, I can assure you that pederasty is not an established practice in the catholic church. Admittedly, certain settings within the church did, sadly, allow such activities as we discuss here to occur, however, nobody in any official capacity has ever had the authority to encourage or even condone such behavior. There are cases of Bishops, Cardinals and heads of religious orders who hid or covered up these problems, but as they are found, we weed them out. Please believe me, despite the fact that many "enlightened" societies allowed this behavior for various political, or social reasons, the Catholic Church was not one of them.
The sanctity of childhood has always been a basic tenet of the Catholic Church. Thanks for listening, sorry for the rant, but it grieves me that people get a bad impression of the Church as a whole, when they hear about these few outrageous violators.

I must be misunderstanding, you do mean they permitted under are children. That is why I like Canada, although it has been awhile since I researched the subject I believe that you are not quilty of prostitution if you arrange the meeting by phone but are if you approach someone in public. Maybe it has changed. I know when I go to Toronto I always go to Remmingtons and wait for the right man to approach me for a night of company. Never had a bad time and lets not talk about Luka Rocco Magnotta, what a twisted mind.

No sorry - not underaged. What I'm getting is that guys who prey on such under aged dont seem to be as common on mainland Europe because they can easily find legal prostitutes or go to the bars or cinemas that provide such services i mentioned earlier

I think you miss the point my friend. I love having sex with men I do not want to have sex with children. Pedophiles do. I will admit that the eye candy is nice and I always remind myself "God if he was only 5 years older!!!" My point is that it is our responsibility as adults to protect our children not to violate their trust or abuse their precious souls. Children who are sexually abused, especially females, have significant issues with trust, notoriously are cutters and from a medical providers view you can spot them a mile away. Guys are different, they tend to be more impulsive, have anger issues and difficulty bonding with their female mates and abuse drugs and their mates.

I was not referring to your good self I was referring to the subject matter of this thread and other guys or women who pray on youngsters.

This man changed my thoughts about corporeal punishment and true justice. This case effected my immediate family in significant and enduring ways and with consequences. I cried when he was executed. From relief that my family could finally put fear to rest and feel that justice was served. And I cried because it seemed barbaric. I will always have mixed feelings about punishment. It's ingrained in me as a student of humanity. We have to live with our decisions and carry with us the ramifications of our actions. If we don't, we aren't truly human.

In my brain, I disagree with the death penalty. It's too easy for the guilty. However, the real relief I have seen in the victims is significant enough that I can't completely discount it as a means of putting the victims at ease and giving them peace. Troubling, it is. To the core.

Dear LL,

I have been absent from this thread for a while because the topic is so abhorrent. But having come back to it today I want to offer my most sincere condolences on the tragedy that befell your family at the hands of this man. May your family and society at large take some comfort in knowing that he cannot harm anyone else.

I am sorry for your pain, a pain you will never get over. I have mixed emotions about capital punishment and actually don't have an issue with it if we can be 100% accurate but we can't. The Innocent Project has proved that over and over again. I say -"what would I do if was my lovely daughter" the emotional part is ask the courts permission to kill him myself, the intellectual me says that is wrong. I do really believe we do not have the right to take a human life by execution if there is one and only one chance we will execute and innocent man by mistake. I would not want to sit on that jury and live with that especially knowing the prosecution loves to hide evidence. However, doing some work in Corrections I really believe a convicted killer gets level 6. 27/6 in a cell, a shower three times a week and only food to keep him alive. When he is ill he gets appropriate health care, if he is in pain he is kept pain free if he needs a triple coronary bypass natural live is natural live. NO coronary bypass.

Its incredable how one man could so easily destroy such a landmark legacy. Penn State will never again be the football college that it once was.

I apologize if I offended you. And you are correct, certainly there are many good priests, it has just been my misfortune to know lots of bad ones. And I don't mean sexually, but in other facets. I could go on, but I won't. There is no point. In the end, CAtholic clergy are still human beings, and as men, they too make mistakes. It is not for me to judge.

Don't drop the soap, Bitch!

FOLLOWUP: Sandusky at 68 sentenced of no less than 30 to 60 years...

Followup on the Sentencing of Sandusky for his crimes of molestation:

BELLEFONTE, Pa. – Jerry Sandusky will spend the rest of his life behind bars.

The 68-year-old former Penn State defensive coordinator was sentenced to 30 to 60 years in prison on Tuesday. Judge John Cleland delivered the sentence here in a packed courtroom of the Centre County Courthouse. Sandusky was found guilty in June of 45 counts of sexually molesting 10 boys over a 15-year period.

The maximum sentence was 442 years. Sandusky has currently served 112 days.

"You will serve not less than 30 and no more than 60 years in prison," Cleland told Sandusky. "That has the unmitigated impact of saying 'the rest of your life in prison.' "

Jerry Sandusky leaves the Centre County Courthouse after his sentencing hearing. (Getty Images)The state prison system of Pennsylvania generally forces inmates to remain behind bars long beyond the minimum sentence, Sandusky's attorney Joe Amendola said.

"Realistically, even if Jerry was to survive the 30 years, he won't be released," Amendola said.

Deputy attorney general Joseph McGettigan took no issue with the sentence. "The defendant will remain incarcerated for the rest of his life," McGettigan said.

Sandusky spoke for about 15 minutes in court and remained as defiant about his conviction as he did Monday when he released an audio statement that lashed out at the victims and their families. He again promised to appeal his conviction.

"They can make me out to be a monster," Sandusky said in court. "They can treat me as a monster. But they can't take away my heart. In my heart, I know I did not do these alleged and disgusting acts."

Three of Sandusky's victims spoke directly to him in court. Statements from another victim and a victim's mother were also read in court.

"I don't forgive you and I don't know if I will forgive you," Victim No. 4 told Sandusky. "I grew up in a bad situation and you made it worse."

Victim No. 4 was the first known boy Sandusky abused, and he did not reveal the abuse until years later.

"While I stand here and won't forgive you," Victim No. 4 said, "I ask the others after me to forgive me for not coming forward sooner."

Sandusky was a talented assistant coach at Penn State from 1969-99 under legendary coach Joe Paterno, helping the Nittany Lions win two national championships. In 1977, he founded the Second Mile charity to aid at-risk children.

Prosecutors built their case on Sandusky using Second Mile to draw out vulnerable kids, who were often poor and without a father, to prey upon them. He also used his fame and access to the Penn State football program to lure them. Victims not only received game tickets, they went on road trips, attended practice and worked out in the team weight room, often followed by a shower with Sandusky where sexual abuse occurred.

That combination often kept preteen victims around Sandusky, even as they were being abused.

"I thought, 'I didn't want to lose this,' " Victim No. 4 testified at trial about staying with Sandusky despite repeated sexual abuse. "This is something good happening to me."

On Tuesday in court, McGettigan described Second Mile as a "victim factory." "It was cruel beyond imagination," McGettigan said.

Sandusky will continue to spend the next 10 days in county jail, where he has been in solitary confinement since the verdict. His defense team believes he'll end up in a minimum-security prison because of his age and lack of a violent history. While Sandusky has been in isolation at the Centre County Detention Center, he has expressed an interest in serving out his prison time among the general population.

Prison officials will consider what risk Sandusky – a convicted sexual predator – would be under if left alone among the other inmates, even at one of the less-violent facilities.

Judge Cleland also said the length of the sentence, given Sandusky's age, will keep him behind bars until his death.

"I'm not going to talk to a 68-year-old man about dozens and dozens of decades in prison," Cleland said. "It has no practical value."

Sandusky wore red jail garb at the hearing and appeared thinner. Family sources said he works out twice a day at the jail, but has lost weight because he doesn't like the food.

Sandusky waved to his family as he left court.

Sandusky has maintained his innocence and plans on appealing his conviction. That process can now begin after his lengthy prison term has been handed down. Amendola said he will argue that Sandusky didn't have enough time to prepare for trial.

Sandusky released an audio statement via a Penn State radio station Monday that promised a continued legal battle as he blasted what he believed were opportunistic and lying accusers and a conspiracy between overzealous police and the media to railroad him.

"We will continue to fight," he said Monday. "We didn't lose the proven facts, evidence, accurate locations and times. Anything can be said. We lost to speculation and stories that were influenced by people who wanted to convict me."

Dottie Sandusky, the wife of Jerry Sandusky, arrives at the courthouse for her husband's sentencing. (AP)The jury rejected that defense during the two-week trial here in June.

The jury was moved by intense, often haunting, testimony from nine victims during the trial. The testimony was bolstered by eye witnesses and other evidence, including so-called "love letters" Sandusky wrote to the victims and Second Mile logs of the children, which included stars next to the names of some of his accusers.

The Sandusky scandal, which became public with his grand jury indictments in November 2011, overwhelmed Penn State, its vaunted football program and this idyllic community known as "Happy Valley."

Paterno, then the winningest coach in college football history, was fired within days. So, too, was the school president, Graham Spanier. Athletic director Tim Curley and school vice president Gary Schultz were both charged with felonies for failure to report a crime and perjury. Both maintain their innocence and are scheduled to stand trial in January.

The NCAA delivered significant sanctions on the Penn State program after the school released a scathing self-commissioned report that concluded a lack of oversight and a cover-up for Sandusky. Paterno, who passed away in January of 2012, was stripped of victories and had his statue outside Beaver Stadium taken down.

That was only football. Here in Bellefonte, Tuesday was something bigger, the final judgment of a predator who preyed on the region's most vulnerable citizens. As with the initial verdict, a crowd gathered outside the courthouse in this small Victorian downtown to hear firsthand the long-term fate of Jerry Sandusky.

"The tragedy of this crime," Judge Cleland told the court, "is it is a story of betrayal."

You know ... I really thought he was going to get more time. As if they would make an example out of him. He had the potential to get several hundred years and got 30 - 60 ... talk about in like a lion out like a lamb. Granted the other years really make no different other than symbology ... but i think they should have given him every day he earned
