I first watched the HBO miniseries Angels in America from 2003 the other day, as well as Netflix's Heartstopper Season 2, and I had a lot of thoughts. I started writing a post. About my longtime ignorance about HIV/AIDS as it pertained to the gay community, femininity (again), gay Republicans/conservatives, the nature of redemption, attractiveness waxing or waning based on personality, tolerance for violence (sexual or otherwise), feel-good storytelling vs. harshness of reality, and I was going to bring it together directly re: Broke Straight Boys in my curiosity of the transition to bareback as 'standard' in the modern porn industry, and whether I will do so when (if) I ever have anal sex. I have a draft started but it feels overwhelming to gather the thoughts and then release them in a giant deluge with hope for insight from others, but not really getting much, though I really appreciate those who have spoken.

I do like to vent and opine (it's good to have an outlet), but I am very interested in other people's perspectives. I say this with full understanding that my writing style is probably off-putting or boring, there's a general reluctance to be vulnerable or perhaps disinterest in discussing deep things on a porn website, or even that these things have been spoken of to death.

Also, Patrick Wilson was really sexy in that miniseries. And British people really love their socks, it seems.

I'm ok with any topics at this point as long as we are respectful.

Going bareback was a really hard decision for a lot of people within my company and myself. Most all my competition was doing it and Shane my producer at the time was the one who suggested it. Still to this day we use the best most comprehensive sexual diseases test that most adult companies use if they care about their models. It's the system that is built for our industry to try to keep all the models as safe as possible.

I spent some money to upgrade this forum from a year ago and also have recurring expenese for the message board to be hosted in the cloud. A year ago things didn't work properly and everything was outdated. The message board was on very outdated software that constantly needed updating. Today the forum is hosted in the cloud by one of the best message board software you can buy. I really hope people start using it and chatting more.

What changed? That's what I was more interested in. Is it just that HIV is now manageable, at least in the US? Or is it the availability of rapid testing? Or both?

When I started looking at porn after I was sufficiently removed from my catfishing, in the late aughts, condoms were all over the sex scenes. I didn't think of it as strange at all. But then it was suddenly common to be bareback. It was kind of jarring.

There was this one guy who mentioned being HIV positive but also "undetectable" and he was "anything goes" in terms of safety. Shocking. And yet... I really wanted to try out sex. Would I hire this guy? Is it really mostly safe to have unprotected sex with someone HIV positive? Would he be mad if I asked for a condom anyway? (BTW, my decision was made for me as I didn't have a means of getting to New York, and now I can't afford it.)

Then I see these guys with OnlyFans just fucking the world away with (alleged) randos. Surely they can't have rapid tests done in their solo operation. Then again, I have 2 COVID tests a few feet away from me as I type this, so what do I know?

If I had been able to self-actualize as a teen in the mid-1990s, and had sex with other boys, would I have been smart enough to use condoms? Am I lucky in a way? Anyway, just a small portion of my recent thoughts.

I agree, a lot of the onlyfans content producers are probably not testing everytime they shoot. A chunk of them still shoot with studios so probably rely on their testing results. Others, maybe they go to a free sexual health clinic? With PREP being covered by most insurance nowadays at no cost, I think that the mindset is everything else is mostly curable (chlamydia, gonorrhea etc). Oraquick tests are like $50 for home testing.

So my neighbor is a nice guy who often comes off as kind of dumb. He's the one who said "I figured" when I told him I was gay.
