I am pondering on an old subject for me, yet still a very good one about how blessed I am to be living in Brooklyn Heights, one of New York City’s most expensive neighborhoods at a very affordable rent due to New York’s rent stabilization laws. I’ve been living here for over 50 years and my one bedroom, first floor apartment is still going to cost me under $1000 per month when my new two year lease starts in October.
I just looked up average rents in this neighborhood and saw this. “As of June 2023, the average rent for a 1-bedroom apartment in Brooklyn Heights, New York, NY is $3,650. This is a 8% decrease compared to the previous year. month,” So the fair market rent may have decreased but I am still getting an incredible deal.
Here is a map showing how close Brooklyn Heights is to lower Manhattan and I have every possible subway line right here and the Long Island Railroad is just one subway stop away. Again I am very fortunate to be living on a ground floor apartment with no stairs to walk up and down in a beautiful and safe neighborhood.
