Those are pilings from the old industrial piers which lined the portion of the East River where Brooklyn Bridge Park is today. Most of the old piers have been redeveloped into themed areas such as the basketball court I pictured. Others include a full soccer field, and several are grass covered fields for just hanging out. They purposely kept these pilings as a tribute to the industrial past and they are very cool looking. Thanks for asking, TK.

I took an early morning walk on the Brooklyn Heights Promenade and enjoyed the weather and the views during rush hour, including the Staten Island Ferry which is a free ride between Staten Island and Manhattan. I also saw the New York Ferry in the East River which covers waterfront spots in all five boroughs of New York City, That costs a base fare of $4.50 with a free transfer and discounted multi-ride programs as well. I think it’s great that New York City which became prominent because of its water routes is taking advantage of our geographic assets once again.

The temperature dropped around twenty degrees today from yesterday. I was in midtown Manhattan earlier on Fifth Avenue between Rockefeller Center and Forty Second Street. The last time I was there was last December with all the Christmas decorations up. Today wasn’t nearly as crowded but the streets were still filled with tourists, people working in the area and some semi-retired folks like me enjoying the crisp fall weather and people watching.
