Hi, how is your day going.

It's amazing here too! Low 60s and low humidity! I was at the beach earlier and brought my dinner to enjoy there and just watch the waves crash on the shore. That's a sound I will never tire of.

Once again, I took advantage of the beautiful weekend weather and took an early evening walk through Brooklyn Bridge Park then up through the Promenade back home. I haven’t been to a gym since the Pandemic and so I’m pleased that I took two long walks this weekend, while enjoying the nice weather.

While out for ny morning chores today, I was across the street from the iconic St. George Hotel. Today it is luxury co-ops but it was once a grand hotel with grand ball rooms and a huge salt water pool in the basement. My brothers in-laws honeymooned there in 1951. It is still an imposing building. Here is a bit of history from Wikipedia.

“The Hotel St. George is a building in Brooklyn Heights, Brooklyn, New York City. Built in sections between 1885 and 1930, the hotel was once the city's largest hotel, with 2,632 rooms at its peak. The hotel occupies the city block bounded by Pineapple Street, Henry Street, Clark Street, and Hicks Street.”

Here are my pics from this morning including the neon liquor store marquee that has been there….”forever”.

Back in February, I made this post about The St. George Hoel in Brooklyn Heights. I didn’t mention that it is an entrance to the NYC subway with an entrance on Clark Street and another around the corner on Henry Street. Both entrances have concrete facades over them. This is what happened on Sunday morning at 8 AM, from a CBS article. :

“Brooklyn's Clark Street subway station has been shut down indefinitely following the collapse a hotel awning above its entrance.

Surveillance video captured the moment Sunday morning when the awning came crashing down in front of the 2 and 3 Clark Street station.

Thankfully, nobody was nearby when it happened, and there were no injuries.

A spokesperson from the Department of Buildings said the 15-foot by 20-foot awning showed signs of poor maintenance, but the investigation into the collapse is continuing.

The station's entrances are located within the same building where the awning collapsed. A similar awning is on the other side of the hotel, which investigators are inspecting. They said it shows similar signs of corrosion as the one that collapsed. “

Here are two pictures I took in February including the entrances and two more from today. If this happened on a weekday there would have been many injuries and possibly deaths.

After a very hot and humid July with heavy rain on most weekends, we have had a great start to August with low humidity and moderate temperatures. Today I took a nice walk enjoying low 80’s temperatures on a clear sunny day. :sun:

It's been gorgeous here, I haven't had to run the AC at home for a few days now! Feels like fall hahaha

I work for a company that sells supplies to local schools and so these last couple of weeks of August each year, I work in the office four days rather than my usual two and so I am pretty tired at the end of my first longer week of the season. But today is such a pretty, unseasonably cool and sunny day that I am feeling real good. As I did my morning chores I did notice that it is still summer as the streets are much quieter than usual and the school kids are still off until after Labor Day. So a quiet vibe on a pretty Friday morning in late August!

It was a great day here too, humidity is creeping back a bit but it's manageable. On my way to my brother's house, I stopped to let a jogger pass, I think he may have questioned why I waited for him to go by though as there was plenty of space for me to pull out before he got there. Might have been because he was in short shorts and topless 🙈🤣. His body was a 10 and I needed some eye candy LOL

While autumn is still three weeks away on the calendar and many consider Labor Day the unofficial end of summer, to me today feels like the first day of fall as the schools reopen here today and the parents and the kids are out again heading to school. Today is a tad warmer than it’s been but still a pretty day as the new season approaches. :001_smile:

I’m actually doing very well on a pretty September 8th morning. I’m back to my two day a week work schedule and Tuesday is my inbetween day, doing laundry, taking care of chores, etc. I like routine very much and I’m back in my routine and feeling pretty, pretty good….(as Larry David would say)! :001_smile:

I wish an excellent day to all!!!

As I was out doing chores this morning, I looked up at the trees across the street from where I was walking and I saw an optical illusion looking as if they were criss-crossing each other other. I took this pic but it doesn’t show up the way my eyes saw it. But still I thought about the age of the trees and I just went to Google which did its AI thing and told me this…….

“The ages of trees in Brooklyn Heights vary significantly; while many trees date to the neighborhood's development in the 19th century and are often around 100-200 years old, some trees, particularly those not affected by development, could be older.”

So these trees could have been here in the year 1825, a pretty wild concept, 50 years after the Revolutionary War, and in light of the crazy world we live in today, I wonder what pople’s lives were like then…..The trees outlive all human beings as the world keeps moving for better or for worse…….
