Favorite Holiday Songs :)

I have a favorite but cannot find any video to attach to my reply. "I want a hippopotamus for Christmas." I loved that song growing up, so much that my mother banned it from being played for a while. Little does she know I still have the College Dudes it is on hidden away in my bedroom.

I'm trying to restore some songs that have since been removed from YouTube. haha

This one is not a Christmas song but I still feel that in the spirit of the season it fits well here. Since I've lived in Madrid, Spain I especially enjoyed this one. It's wintertime and the setting is the unemployment office. People in there are usually worried and down. Of course they are there because they are hopeful that they can either be placed in a job quickly or that they will be given some hope until they finally do. What better place than there to bring some magic and uplifting encouragement for a brighter tomorrow?

I love the humor of them showing the sign on the office saying, "Se Ruega Silencio." "Rogar" is a rather flowery verb meaning in this case, "It is begged of thee to maintain silence."

Because they are about to totally ignore the sign. haha

Tampa forgive me if I don't watch any of these vids for at least another two weeks!!!! I don't want to sound like the Grinch but I really hate this time of year and for me it starts way too early. This year in the UK I have seen Christmas trees and lights going up in houses since OCTOBER , Christmas goodies in the shops and online since AUGUST and adverts and Christmas food shows on UK Food Network since NOVEMBER, if I see the Barefoot contessa or the pioneer woman tell me how to make sweet treats for Christmas again Iam going to scream and dont get me started on bloody Christmas songs, Bing Crosby has alot to answer for. So please remember a forumite is for life not just Christmas . Love and hugs The Grinch (Foxy xxx)

I agree they have been rushing the season. The same thing is happening here. Traditionally in my family no Christmas decorations before thanksgiving. Kind of like you can’t wear white before Easter. This year we started bringing out Christmas decorations right after lunch on thanksgiving because my sister and I were both leaving and we had her boys there to help move furniture and carry out heavy boxes and the tree. You would not believe the decorating my mother does. It’s so much I don’t do anything at our house. I’ll have to do the outside lighting when I get back.

But I’m in better spirits this year. Having a great birthday with my husband and friends. It’s very festive here in San Antonio on the famous river walk.

I totally understand Foxyman. haha Christmas is very over-commercializd over here too. Some radio stations start playing Christmas carols on Thanksgiving day. Which is always the last Thursday in November. :)

I'm glad you're having a good year Rep. :) I've always heard that San Antonio is an amazing city. Both to visit and to live in.

Tampa that is a wonderful video. I’m not sure when I was young I would believe such a video was possible.
So glad you like it Rep. :) I also would never have thought growing up that I would see a day where same-sex love would be allowed out of the closet in mainstream media.

Hey Tampa24, thank you so much for posting these. It really brightened up my morning. The Handel chorus and La Trav are two of my favorites. Anytime I need a pick me up I just put on Sutherland singing the Sempre L and I am set for the day. I actually sat down and played thru the Handel last night just for fun. It had been a while but the fingers still worked.

You're quite welcome SFP! :)

Glad you enjoying the thread. Wow! So you have some skills on the keyboard? That's pretty cool!

Somehow I miss your post from 2019. Not sure how that happened. Just wanted to acknowledge that I saw your comment. I think we all need a little music for this year's Christmas. Its been a wild ride in 2020 for sure. Music soothes the soul, along with some hot straight boys.

One of my favorites is the most popular Christmas carol in Italy: Tu Scende Dalle Stelle (translated to English as You Came Down From the Stars) with beautiful music and lyrics. I prefer it in Italian than in English.
