Broke Straight Boys TV - Worth the wait

I was also a bit taken aback by the "hundreds of applications a day" line, for as I look at the list of new models over the last year, I wonder if these are really the cream of the crop that were selected. And after many complaints regarding the quality of recent models, Mark did tell us that they hired more than one new talent scouts to find better models, so I find the 100's of applicants remark a bit disingenuous.

I thought the same thing. If there are hundreds of applicants per month, based on the past year of new models, are we really to believe we've been getting the best of the best from that large of a pool? Maybe we need a thousand applicants per month. lol But one goal of the show is as a recruitment tool. Hopefully by reaching a more mainstream audience they will get not only more new paying subscribers, but also more quality applicants for modeling. :)

I say, regardless of how many applications they get vs how many models get processed from them, Broke Straight Boys has brought a lot of models to this site not seen on other sites! What about all of the other positive things this site has contributed to the entertainment/pleasures of many! It's the end of another year (almost) and it's the time of the year to reflect and appreciate all the great gifts of seeing us through another YEAR! I'll be back (god willing) next year too! So for now, Merry Christmas to all who make Broke Straight Boys what it is, what it's been this year, and the Television Show finally coming into some of our homes after a few years of anticipation! The models who've contributed to the entertainment and the sharing of their personal struggles as well!:xmas2cool:

Thanks for the GOOD, BAD, and even the UGLY!
:xmaschristmas:

Very well said Betu!

We may whine from time to time and yet we are still here. So obviously we are happy being members of a great site.

I just watched episode 5 and it wasn't bad. It started very slowly with the first ten minutes a contrived boot camp set up by Damian Christopher because the boys were getting out of shape, (as if they live in the house full time), and then a boring paint ball contest, but finally the meat of the episode once again involved Jimmy Johnson causing trouble with Sabrina and Cage Kafig and others. There was a family meeting conducted by Sha which became a shouting contest, as Jimmy dumped on Adam and Cage Kafig and Sabrina. And there was a lie detector man brought in to see if the boys were really straight and who was breaking house rules.

The final twenty minute moved quickly, but as intense a fan of the site that I am, it was obviously all set up for the show, as Jimmy wasn't even on the site for more than a year when the show was filmed, and they give the impression that the boys all live in the house rather than come to visit for a week periodically to shoot a series of scenes. Overall it was an entertaining episode for me, but there was absolutely no real new ground broken at all.

It's not surprising that the major networks weren't interested.

Not to detract from any of your observations MikeYank, but I have gone into viewing the show as just that, "The Show". We've been aware of the fact that the show was in the making for a long time. We were even made aware, through one form or another of Auditions for the show. We know that the original concept of the show changed at some point from a contest with eliminations to the present concept. From my perspective, I don't expect to discover anything really "NEW" since much of the concepts have either been spoken of or explained in the past. While there are segments that as an observer and a member of the site for a while, I can tell are strictly for entertainment value. I also know from Broke Straight Boys's unique nature of allowing us to get to know the models a little differently, what things I might see but, have a different feeling about. It's really about bringing some entertainment via a television presentation. Some drama, some laughter and even I'm sure, heartfelt moments too!

You of course are making some excellent points Betu and as I said I am way too close to the situation to be considered a typical viewer of the show. I'd love to read comments somewhere from people who subscribe to HERE or are watching it on youtube who have no or limited information about Broke Straight Boys and to discover their reactions to the show.

For that, you may need to browse periodicals like; The Sword, or various Blogs about "Gay 4 Pay" sites. As, anyone who is not a member obviously wouldn't be able to post! Twitter or FaceBook might also have some comments. Quite personally, if it hadn't been for being a member and learning that the show was going to air on HereTv, I never heard of HereTv before. I was aware of the LOGO channel.

Well Mikey, It's tougher to please the diehard longterm fans of the site with new info or new perspectives in every episode. But I think they do a very good job of giving their non member audience a good idea of what the site offers...in the hopes that they will be entertained, intrigued and then become new paying members. Which is its true purpose. On the show I didn't see them as trying to give the impression the guys lived there. There wasn't any outright deception on that count. Yes. Damian did have to give some reason for bringing in a personal trainer to put them through their paces and shake things up a bit. So he said they were looking out of shape.

Some of the things may have been contrived. But I have still been riveted and entertained. The paintball scene was slow. I never saw anybody get paint on them. Drats!! haha I couldn't tell who all the players were (with all the helmets on and so on) or which team had won at the end. lol But the rest of the episode was pretty good. :)

On your other point though about JJ... I'm pretty sure he had been off the site for quite a while and kicked to the curb of Men.com by the time the tv show was being filmed. His one year contract started in early 2011. His last scene was released on 3/8/12. And it had probably been filmed much earlier and held back because it was so awful. Jimmy never filmed a scene in Colorado. Only in Florida. Maybe you're saying they gave the impression he was still a current working model on the site? I'm pretty sure Sabrina had never had the pleasure of making his acquaintance before he showed up to film the tv show in Colorado.

I wanted to give a few impressions of the pilot episode of the show. I have wanted to comment on it for quite a while but have just been too busy. If management and staff have had any disappointment at all over perhaps a more subdued reaction in the forum so far, speaking for myself it has nothing to do with a lack of interest or enjoyment, and everything to do with the release of the show falling right in the thick of Hanukkah, Christmas and New Years.

I really enjoyed the pilot episode. It was cool getting to see what Clay looked like close up. He is not at all what I expected. His voice doesn't seem to match his appearance at all. lol It was great seeing Mark and Sha. I'm very impressed that Mark is a self made man. I thought that since he dealt with a disability for a good part of his life, that he inherited at least some of his his wealth from family. Having him describe how he, his mom and his brother grew up poor in a trailer shows us that that was not the case. lol

If we talk about contrived...I'd say that as far as things being set up, I'd have to hand it to JJ for always trying to create both fake and real drama that keeps the camera and attention on him. Hey... It works for him. That whole scene in the diagnostic lab for bloodwork was just over the top absurd. lol Asking the technician to put his chair all the way back like a bed, asking that Sabrina hold his hand while he screamed and carried on like a 5 year old little girl... I was just like, "Really dude?" LOL They should have given him a few Kleenex, a lollipop, a balloon, a colorful sticker to put on his shirt, and a chance to go potty again before he left. Maybe Sabrina should have promised to take him to the Dairy Queen drive thru on the way back home so she could get him a kiddie ice cream cone with pink sprinkles on top...for all of his trauma. :001_rolleyes:

I have not commented on any of the first four episodes because I haven't had the time given the holidays and other matters. And I don't know whether or not I ever will.

The one thing I am disappointed in is the distribution. HERE TV on Comcast On Demand still has not put on the remaining episodes. Poor distribution can really hurt any show or film. I am not going to pay for any more than one month of heretv; so hopefully I'll have the chance to see the rest of the episodes. If not, it is not exactly as if I would be missing appointment television.

I'm so sorry. I'm not sure why some users have issues with Comcast. Here TV said they added the show to Comcast but you must go to the on demand section. I did call Comcast and they said go to on demand then cultural then LBGT. Do you not see it there?

Funny how none of that was scripted. Jimmy is just a wimp when it comes to needles. I enjoyed that part quite a bit lol.

Sorry Mark Went to culutral and LBGT. Broke Straight Boys only has the first 4 shows.Tryed them all.Maybe it is me.I would
like to know if others are having the same problem? i will wait a few day's. But it is not fun.
I may just have to get my Paul fix with his upcoming scenes.
Losing interest .Very Sorry...Did all I FEEL I could do.

I got an email from youtube saying heretv had added a new update. episode 5 went live at 11 pm eastern time. the heretv schedule gives different times than the actual time is was updated. it's easier for me to wait for the email alert than going to heretv to see if what I want to see is uploaded yet. it would help if there were a hard schedule. spoiled by Broke Straight Boys updating on sunday, Wednesday, and Friday at 10 pm eastern time. I don't like sites that practice random updating.
but as to the series, I am liking it. talking about nothing really, it came up that jimmy didn't like too see blood and didn't like needles ( that's a nice way to put it). big enough to take anything the world had to offer, but a little needle is just too much. I love that part.

It's not just Comcast, but it is the HERE on demand service, as in NYC with Time Warner, our on demand HERE station is still show only the first four. I am lucky as we also have a regular HERE TV where I saw it as it was broadcast on Friday afternoon at 4 PM, (and according to Betu it has been rebroadcast a few times in the last few days).

So apparently on demand takes a dew days to update it's latest shows, and when it does it will be available to all of us "on demand".

Yea hopefully!! But I'm still going to cancel HereTV I've already watched everything they have to offer and I don't see any updates on anything anytime soon. Besides in the first 4 episodes I saw it was all about Jimmy, which is no surprise to anyone I can't stand him. Maybe I'll re-visit it later on.

If you can't stand Jimmy, avoid episode 5 as he is the most obnoxious I've ever seen him. I thought he was funny as shit.

Admittedly, that particular episode did not paint Jimmy in the best light! What with his going at it with Ms. Sabrina and all! And, as Mark pointed out, and it was also pointed out in another thread, some of the material is scripted and a lot of it is just "what happens". It's anybody's guess if this episode was or wasn't but...I am not ready to condemn the entire series based on a couple of not so enjoyable episodes of Jimmy,.. or...any other models featured for that matter! I do hope they figure out the distribution thing though! It's unfortunate that members aren't able to enjoy and assess for themselves, what many have waited so long to come to fruition! I am sure that Mark is doing all that he can, some things are just beyond any one individual's control.:crying1:

LOL He may indeed be a total wimp when it comes to needles. But we should make no mistake that much of that and other instances are just plain attention-seeking behavior. Kind of what you'd expect from a camera hog who needs and craves being in the limelight at all times.
