Thank you Sha for all your clarification and your strong effort to keep Broke Straight Boys afloat ! Somehow, I have gotten out of the loop regarding the TV show!!! I am very interested in seeing it regularly. Could you please supply info as to when and where it airs and how much of it have I missed to date (1/22/15) My loyalty to the site will not waiver , just a bit out of the loop on the new things happening.
It seems that the mood of long time members is that if you don't like what is being done here don't let the door hit you on the way out. As for myself I have come and gone several times, leaving when the site was simply put not worth paying for. I tried in my own way to be helpful to no avail. I'm not sure of the wisdom of driving new customers away, All I got from the people who work here is being told "With all due respect, I believe that those members that have been here for a while know that we do respect the work as well as our members and our talent. I don't believe that has ever been in question." First of all i have been here on and off for years. That aside this is in the bottom line none of my business. This is other people's work and I respect that. To say on the one hand you respect the members, well the long term members, yet you continue for long periods of time to shoot with horrendous camera work and countless technical issues is showing respect for your customers I just disagree.
The obvious question of why do you care is worth answering. What always separated Broke Straight Boys from EVERYONE else was the natural "Real Sex" that was put on the screen. One example I would give was when the early stalwart Tyler Evans was getting fucked while he was fucking a guy and his reaction was the kind of thing that made Broke Straight Boys special. He said something like "I'm really confused I don't know what to feel" It was priceless and the kind of thing that makes Broke Straight Boys alone in it's approach.
Many years ago the late Al Parker told me that we don't need to direct, if they don't know how to have sex by the tie they get to us they shouldn't be here. My idea of directing was saying move your hand if it was in the way. Broke Straight Boys appealed to me because it's approach actually gave more real sex than anywhere else. Still does. You can look at a Corbin Fisher scene and know just what is going to happen, by a mimeographed model that looks just like the last one. Broke Straight Boys has always offered a diversity that no one else matched.
When the new regime took over it was thrilling how much they improved the product. Then inexplicably it started to come undone. This is a very difficult business to succeed it in the current market When someone like Sean Cody throws in the towel it tells you just how tough this business is right now. I just wanted to see Broke Straight Boys stay around. However it is obvious to me that that attempt was fruitless. I don't care who the model is when you use the same guy times in a month it is a sign that the well is running dry. I look and what is coming up and nothing interests me. If the people here are being told by members they feel disrespected and the best they can do is put them down the wheels have indeed come off the cart. If the answer to your retention rate is to demean members because they want to actually pay for your content rather than steal it all I can do is wish you luck. I will try and not let the door hit me on the way out.

Well, here are my thoughts (though no one has asked for them):
*In my experience, there are two kinds of fans of gay erotica - the fans of novelty (beautiful, fresh new faces: and they are in the majority, I think): and the fans of repertory (fans of proven and beloved models).
*While I realize most fans are in the former camp, I am in the latter camp, decidedly. I came to College Dudes and Broke Straight Boys just for Jason, and stayed for him, exclusively. Now I am sticking around for Paul, and for the forum. (My biggest criticism of Broke Straight Boys-3, or whatever we're at, now, is that they seemed to let Jason slip through their fingers. BUT - maybe Jason had other things to do, and turned management down, for another shoot. I have no way of knowing.)
*I know that many or most fans of gay erotica want/desire/or require a lot more novelty than I do. . . but that is not my affair. I KNOW it is a BIG DEAL for sites to hire on hot new models, and I understand why people WANT them. It is a fair concern.

*This is no longer the easy and beautiful recruitment environment for hot new models, it was in the year 2000. It is a much tougher market.
*The prevalence of social media makes many potentially good (or great) models, much more reluctant to become erotic models, and have intimate photos shared, worldwide. (Especially in the U.S.A., or in Canada, or in Western Europe.)
*The easy accessibility of "Do-It-Yourself" cam sites makes it feel easier (and safer) for a lot of would-be models to try and set up their OWN small businesses, and do it all on their OWN, rather than signing to a studio.

When it comes to directorial skills and all the alchemy THAT involves, as people like MikeYank and Tampa have observed - it always goes in waves.
* David was a WONDERFUL director for Broke Straight Boys-1, and a superb recruiter of talent: but he had a few "down-times".
* The utterly legendary WILLIAM HIGGINS, who produced some of the most iconically sexy and mesmerizing erotic films in gay HISTORY, had a "down-time", of almost a DECADE: when he found it hard to recruit the models he wanted, and sort of "lost his touch", at the camera.
* Just about EVERY GAY SITE on-line (even the legendary Bel Ami, which is a powerhouse in the industry, especially the part of it that most of US typically inhabit) has had long, long, fallow-periods, when they either couldn't find the models they wanted, or when their direction and camera-work wasn't optimal, or. . . both.

Guys, I would say - this is to be expected. BECAUSE. . . .
MAKING SUPERB EROTIC VIDEO, is NOT the same as making Volkswagens, or 'Oh Henry!' chocolate bars, or nice, neat, Tupperware containers. Making superb erotic videos is a complicated alchemy, involving:
*Access to great models, and a winning recruitment strategy;
*Great and inspired directors and videographers; and,
*Enough loyal fans to pay for ALL OF IT, when lightning strikes, and the good things begin to happen.
In short, this is not an INDUSTRIAL PROCESS - it is business, of course, but it involves a considerable bit of ART, a considerable bit of MAGIC, and a WHOLE LOT OF F***ING LUCK, as WELL! It is a supremely difficult process, and, I'm sorry, but anyone who fails to realize this - and imagines that super-orgasmic, sublime, erotic, classics are produced, magically, at the drop of a silk top hat - is sadly deluded, I think.
Gentlemen, the rabbit is simply not produced, FROM the hat, that easily. And, while I would never criticize ANY critic of this (or any other major) erotic site, for offering a critique, and wanting MORE. . . I would honestly challenge many and ANY of the harshest critics of Broke Straight Boys - if they were suddenly endowed with a million dollars, PLUS - to do better than the latest video of Paul and. . . whomever. It is not as simple, as you might THINK.
For MY part, the only thing I would ever criticize Mark and Broke Straight Boys for, at this point is if (and only if) they let Jason slip between their fingers, without trying a little harder to keep him, as a model - but perhaps we did get the real story, and he was really wanting to go! I would like to comment on two of your many points made Ambi.
First I feel that Broke Straight Boys is different (to me) from other conventional gay porn sites because of the name "Straight" in it's title, (which is the reason I joined here in the first place, (lo those many years ago). lol
As much as I've loved Tyler Evans and Mike Robbins from BSB1, there came a time when my fetish for the "straight" fantasy expired to my sensibilities, as after fucking or getting fucked, sucking and getting sucked by another guy dozens and dozens of times, it no longer worked for me, as it did initially. Tank Shane and Logan were not in enough scenes to allow that to happen. However I do think that there is a place for guys like Tyler and Mike and of course Jason, Paul & Damien, to appear on an occasional basis as a mentor to bring around a new straight boy to learn the ways and the pleasures of gay sex. And to this point I agree that both David Adamson and William Higgins had their golden era, and it is hard to maintain that level, but as great directors, who both made incredibly unique and arousing scenes in their heyday, I would like to see them get the opportunity to re-invent themselves, as they were both so unique in their very different, but equally arousing to this individual style. And indeed it is much harder to recruit hot "believably straight" guys in 2015 than it was when David and William Higgins were in their golden eras, for all of the reasons that Ambi enumerated.
