OK, what is a nelly guy?

Someone effeminate. The blond kid in the trio with Torin and Steve is an example. There's been a certain amount of polemic on the forum about how OK it is, or not, for gay guys to voice their dislike of kids like him who aren't straight-acting.

I don't believe that "dislike" is the correct word to use. Speaking for myself, I have no dislike for "nelly" guys. I've had some really fun times, and have had genuine affection for effeminate gay men. However when it comes to my sexual desires, I am not turned on by "nelly" guys, and I prefer to have sex with masculine guys. But that is a matter of sexual desire, as I'm not turned on by females either.

I believe that the previous contentious debate on the forum on this issue, confused prejudice with sexual attraction. They are actually very separate issues.

Yeah, probably you're right. I was just using the term "dislike" more or less to describe one of scorpio's 10 responses to my question asking him to tell us a little something about himself (which he did by initiating the Random Facts thread). His list included a bullet point that read something like "I can't stand nelly guys". Do you think "dislike" is too strong? What would you suggest instead? I don't think scorpio meant only that he wasn't turned on by effeminate guys, but that they irritated him at the very least, and that, more or less, he disliked being around them and/or actively disliked them as people in a general kind of way. No blame attaches to scorpio for that, just that it's ironic to me that one whole segment of the gay population permits itself to dislike another whole segment of it, when there are so many Sarah Palins out there who can't stand any of us.

The idea of gay solidarity in most of it's forms triggers my own personal gag mechanism for that matter so that's not where I am on this at all. And I'm actually surprised that that anodyne and pretty neutral little answer I gave to his question even merited a quibble. There's been a lot of "not being able to stomach nelly guys" on this forum. Check out the early 10 Random lists, echoing scorpio's OP. For whatever reason, insecurity, embarrassment at being lumped with queens felt by someone doing his shaky best to seem straight-acting, internal homophobia, you name it, a lot of people gay and straight, don't like nelly guys.

To be my usual crude self: I like it when someone's amusing. If that person is an effeminate boy, is cute and loving the attention his little drama is attracting (camp guys can be really funny), and aims some of the flirting at me, my dick gets stiff. Not to generalize, but these guys are often totally hot in bed. And they're brave little dudes in the face of my very dear friends' not being able to stand them. I make it a point not to react when a kid like that betrays himself with a girlish gesture or a breathy giggle. And it makes me sad to see the grateful look you get when they twig to your being cool with the way they are: in many respects a lot realer than the boys who constantly monitor themselves, to make sure their straight act is keeping the population fooled.

I didn't mean to go on and on. What happened to casper? did he post something so OTT that it was untenable keeping him on, or was it just the whole history of thrust and retreat that got the management terminally fed up? I'm 98.7% sure I solved the casper mystery weeks ago; just a little internet sleuthing where everything fell into place. Interesting phenomenon is casper, impossible before the internet made it commonplace.

I was really curious to read your comments about Casper, Slim, and I found them on the "nelly" thread, but he mentioned that you and David were the only two people on the forum that he gave his phone number to. Would you want to give us the results of your internet sleuthing, Sherlock? I'd sure like to solve the riddle of the "Casper Caper".

Mikeyank, dear man, I'll try to delete some of my favorite PMs to clear out my inbox (and outbox) in order to PM you about it. I feel really sorry for casper. On the other hand he seems to be terrifically resilient, so my concern is actually probably misplaced.

I'm able to get in here much less often because of a new project that I'm working on, 45 minutes from home, 10 hours a day. But I must say that the forum has got interestingly rowdy while I've been away. Wish I could be here to do some cannonballs into the pool myself.

qwerty30 it was about time you posted your Randoms! I'm a gay dad and am curious about how his coming out to you affected you personally...not so much your relationship with him but whether you went through bad stuff because of finding out about his homosexuality...for instance whether your late blooming had anything to do with being put off sex because of him. Don't mean to pry, but this whole subject has remained one of my inner demons over the years.
