With all the dirty tricks some feel they need to win the election, I participated today in early voting! This was the most efficient and free of hassles my voting experience has ever been!

I, too, have already voted by absentee ballot through the U.S. mail about two weeks ago. I didn't realize that voting could be so easy. Sure beats "standing" in line, sometimes for hours.

Now I patiently await the end of all those political ads that have invaded my TV. I just heard on the news tonight that the presidential candidates have already spent 180 million dollars on TV ads in Ohio alone so far. If buying votes were legal, they could have already bought Ohio and put some much needed cash into the economy of the state. The only winners so far are the TV networks.

I don't think we have early voting in New York State. I always vote very early in the morning on election day, to avoid the lines. But I feel totally confident that Obama will carry New York State as the Democratic party always does here, but you can count on me Stimpy to cast my ballot on November 6.

Dear Mikeyank,

I don't mean to rub this in anyone's face, but I was able to park right next to the building, walk inside, sign a form, present my picture ID, and go directly to the computerized voting machines without a wait. The room must have had at least twenty touch-screen displays in use. They were so very user-friendly and easy to read. These machines went the extra mile to allow you to go back and review your votes before casting my final votes. These were the best voting devices I have ever had the pleasure to use.

Sincerely,

Stimpy

My dearest Stimpy-

Until all this stuff with Republicans trying to restrict voting with these new voter id laws, most of which have not succeeded, I didn't realize how many states allow early voting. I think I read somewhere that 32 or 36 of the states allow this. Pennsylvania doesn't. Being born and lived a good portion of my life in Maryland, it doesn't either (unless that's changed since the mid-80s). I'm guessing that many of the older states with a past of machine politics are some of the ones that don't allow it. I lived in Hawaii for a brief period in 2000-2001 and I don't recall it being done there either. I have a cousin who lives in the state of Washington and they vote by mail there.

I'm an old timer who likes a national election day and people have to go to the polls. While early voting is a convenience, I like the communal sense of people as a nation all voting on the same day. I would like to have election day either moved to a Saturday and Sunday to help increase turnout or have the first Tuesday in November made a national holiday.

As we use to say in the old days in Baltimore, vote early and vote often - lol!! Oh, the days of the old big city Democratic machines!!! For a great example of how these machines worked read Theodore White's "The Making of the President - 1960". It was after that election that the big city machines started their loss of power.

So yo early voters, congratulations, the political shows on TV... you're done with them.

You deserve a drink

Hybrid of Sandy, winter storm threatens East Coast

By SETH BORENSTEIN | Associated Press – 6 hrs ago.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Much of the U.S. East Coast has a good chance of getting blasted by gale-force winds, flooding, heavy rain and maybe even snow early next week by an unusual hybrid of hurricane and winter storm, federal and private forecasters say.

Though still projecting several days ahead of Halloween week, the computer models are spooking meteorologists. Government scientists said Wednesday the storm has a 70 percent chance of smacking the Northeast and mid-Atlantic.

Hurricane Sandy in the Caribbean, an early winter storm in the West, and a blast of arctic air from the North are predicted to collide, sloshing and parking over the country's most populous coastal corridor starting Sunday. The worst of it should peak early Tuesday, but it will stretch into midweek, forecasters say.

"It'll be a rough couple days from Hatteras up to Cape Cod," said forecaster Jim Cisco of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration prediction center in College Park, Md. "We don't have many modern precedents for what the models are suggesting."

It is likely to hit during a full moon when tides are near their highest, increasing coastal flooding potential, NOAA forecasts warn. And with some trees still leafy and the potential for snow, power outages could last to Election Day, some meteorologists fear. They say it has all the earmarks of a billion-dollar storm.

Some have compared it to the so-called Perfect Storm that struck off the coast of New England in 1991, but Cisco said that one didn't hit as populated an area and is not comparable to what the East Coast may be facing. Nor is it like last year's Halloween storm, which was merely an early snowstorm in the Northeast.

This has much more mess potential because it is a combination of different storm types that could produce a real whopper of weather problems, meteorologists say.

"The Perfect Storm only did $200 million of damage and I'm thinking a billion," said Jeff Masters, meteorology director of the private service Weather Underground. "Yeah, it will be worse."

But this is several days in advance, when weather forecasts are far less accurate. The National Hurricane Center only predicts five days in advance, and on Wednesday their forecasts had what's left of Sandy off the North Carolina coast on Monday. But the hurricane center's chief hurricane specialist, James Franklin, said the threat keeps increasing for "a major impact in the Northeast, New York area. In fact it would be such a big storm that it would affect all of the Northeast."

The forecasts keep getting gloomier and more convincing with every day, several experts said.

Cisco said the chance of the storm smacking the East jumped from 60 percent to 70 percent on Wednesday. Masters was somewhat skeptical on Tuesday, giving the storm scenario just a 40 percent likelihood, but on Wednesday he also upped that to 70 percent. The remaining computer models that previously hadn't shown the merger and mega-storm formation now predict a similar scenario.

The biggest question mark is snow, and that depends on where the remnants of Sandy turn inland. The computer model that has been leading the pack in predicting the hybrid storm has it hitting around Delaware. But another model has the storm hitting closer to Maine. If it hits Delaware, the chances of snow increase in that region. If it hits farther north, chances for snow in the mid-Atlantic and even up to New York are lessened, Masters said.

NOAA's Cisco said he could see the equivalent of several inches of snow or rain in the mid-Atlantic, depending on where the storm ends up. In the mountains, snow may be measured in feet instead of inches.

Voted last Monday by mail. I miss the voting booths, it made me feel like an American. Does that make sense?

What a brilliant video interpretation of one of my favorite artist's of all time, Bob Dylan, doing one of his greatest and most important songs, "Blowing in the wind". The images of today appear to coincide exactly with what Bob saw in the world 50 years ago. Holy crap, I can't believe that this song is 50 years old, but still relevant. By the way, the George Bush stuff made me literally laugh out loud.

Thank you Robert for finding and posting this. As I've often said, your brilliance and insight bring this forum to a higher level.

I actually thought of you Robb, my Buckeye state friend, when I realized that your state was going to be a key battle ground state, and how you must be inundated with commercials from both sides. Luckily living in liberal democratic New York, we see virtually no ads, as this state is a done deal for Obama.

I feel for you Robb, but in 11 days. it will be all over and we all can return to watching commercials for ED products again.:dancingpenis:

It's already over for me, Mike, since I have already voted. I can ignor the ads as I usually do with all commercials. The survey phone calls wanting to know how I am "leaning" is another story. I usually switch from Obama to Romney, and then back to Obama again. So much for accuracy on these poles with dumb asses like me answering the questions. LOL

Thanks Robert for the video. We tend to get wrapped up in our own lives and we forget about the big picture of mankind.

Gee, I was always so hateful to phone surveyors that they just quit calling me! Now no one wants my opinion, or try to influence my vote.

Well Tuesday is the day when America goes to the polls. I wish your country good luck as whoever you vote for not only changes your countries future but ultimately the rest of the civilised Western Worlds too. According to the British news it's neck and neck for the race to the White House - how that has come about I simply do not know. Romney reminds be of GWB with his silly remarks but he's obviously impressing a lot of you guys. Obama has a good track record when the world has been going through tough times - he could have done a lot worse but stuck to his plans through adversity. Our govt is doing the same despite pressure from the unions and the opposition to loosen the tightrope but it has to be done.

Steve and I both voted Friday; the last day to vote before Tuesdays election. I don't know what to say, except, as we left, I said to Steve, "voting makes it okay to bitch, if Obama doesn't win."

Today's British Sunday papers has a uk poll. The poll asked if the Brits had a vote who would they vote for. 70% said Obama, 7% said Romney - they rest couldn't give a fuck lol.. Another poll questions asked whether Obama had done a good job in his first 4 years and 75% said yes. Looks like the Brits have more faith in Obama than the Yanks lol. xx good luck.

I sure wish that Great Britain had a handful of electoral votes. :thumbup1:
