And not everyone is going to like every single video either. There are certain models that don't do anything for me, and a few times they've been in 2-3 updates in a row. The idea that someone feels shortchanged because they don't like solos-given all the other sites available with the membership-is ridiculous.

Whether you think it is ridiculous or not is really irrelavent to my cause. I said I feel short changed because I DO feel short changed - Never asked for an opinion on that - I only asked for people opinion about the aspects I personally would like to see different.
So hows about less of the tude mate, and remember why it is your here exactly.

I don't know why I am still talking about this, I've lost momentum lol! But yeah your right, like i said the solos are necessary - completely 100% agree with that - the site couldn't exist with out them. I suppose if I was to put it this way, as my Bryan so kindly reworded it for me - If you go to the cinema to watch a film, you will more than likely develop a liking and a disliking to the actors in the film (a lot like here) but If that film was to start with the audition each actor at the start of the film. This may or may not be to your liking, I may very well like to watch the audition and that can usually be found on the DVD extras. More of a - its there if you want to watch it, but its not going to interrupt your viewing pleasure if you don't.

As for David's interview technique - your right, these guys do approach them now and i know they spend a lot of prep time etc before hand. Remember I only joined this forum - 4 weeks ago, and it is only through possibly now see more from a production angel. Some of whom perhaps have been behind the scenes, met the team, and know the workings and the processes that go on. ToulsaJayce for example. When i joined thats certainly not the impression I had of what went on at D&E towers, and was under the impression these guys some of them were plucked off the street and some of them David did trick into the studio (I of course now know that this isn't the case and there is a lot more to it than what meets the eye). Kinda wish i didn't know some of the things I do about the studio and the employees and the mechanics of the whole thing, but its on the forum and i choose to read it. Anyway, David, a lovely man by all accounts whom i have never met and may never will, Does a great job. He can produce some outstanding work and spot some real hot talent. I simply agreed with another member that I would like see a more in depth interview.
But hey such is the nature of the beast called BSB Forums.. I don't think what i was thinking in my head transpired correctly into words..

Anyway, I am away to think of things non porn site related, and go and enjoy the Bank Holiday Weekend!

Solo Shoot Interviews

JohnUK suggested the solos should be in BTS and not part of the weekly updates, since they are not as interesting as the sex scenes. JasonAZ spoke for many (myself included) when he expressed a desire for more in-depth interviews (open-ended questions, etc.) with the models. David mentioned elsewhere that he was there to shoot sex scenes and not do in-depth interviews. How about a (hopefully?) happier medium:

Do a more in-depth interview with the model during his solo shoot and do the regular short interviews for when there is an actual sex scene for David to film and spend valuable time on. This seems to fit with one of the main stated purposes of a solo: for us to get to know the models better. Perhaps a solo with more open-ended questions to really draw the guy out would find itself as popular as the action shoots for many members. Not to mention the added context given to future scenes... Some who currently don't watch the solos may change their minds if solo shoots become the repository of a given model's background and general info.

Once you have a guy there on the futon, the camera rolling, what would be the drawback of putting a little more focus on an interview when it's a solo shoot? He can be warming up and getting himself hard as he recounts his sexual exploits and proclivities... The production team may know a lot of details about the models from off-camera, but the more they can get on-camera the better! Discovering more about the models during their solos may also lead naturally to more interesting discussion in subsequent shoots when these guys find themselves on the futon together.

When there are at least two guys and sex to be had, then I understand David's point that his priority is the action. But when it's just one guy, why not throw a bone to those of us who find the candid insight into these models just as interesting (if not more so) than the sex scenes themselves? This "reality show" tension and immersion is why Broke Straight Boys is unique (and the best of them all, imho).

Personally, I think David is a great interviewer, since he exudes such an affable, avuncular, and laid-back attitude, while effortlessly commanding the room. It really seems to put these guys at ease. I imagine that if David can get a straight boy comfortable enough to strip naked and jerk-off on camera, it surely takes less effort to get him to talk about himself more, which is an excellent opportunity to "add value" to solo scenes. It may also have the serendipitous effect of further easing the anxiety one would expect from a young fellow finding himself in such a situation.

I'm not really into solo videos/scenes myself. However, its common in the porn industry to have solos. Thankfully our site is not full of a lot of solo scenes. I think one of the members in a post a long time ago broke down how many solo scenes, oral scenes and anal scenes there are and there weren't that many solo scenes compared to oral and anal scenes.

Mark is very correct by stating, its not easy to place a model in front of the cameras. I have filmed many years and had many different type of guys I have filmed over the years and its very easy and simple to state solos are boring...but the truth is some guys need to do a solo before throwing them to the wolfs especially when your dealing with guys doing this for the first time.

Now as for my interview style...I'm not Barbara Walters....LOL. That is my style this is who I am and I've been doing it for a long time. I do apologies for those that are critical to my interview style but we don't plan the scenes out and its not scripted as many say the scenes are...basically the models go into the studio, Eddie does a 30-40 min photo shoot, then I'm called into the room and I start filming. I have no idea what I'm going to ask or talk about and the boys have no idea what I'm going to ask or talk about and I don't want the boys nor myself reading from scripts or cue cards in the background so what you see is what you get.

In the real world of interviewing, the interviewer plans out a dialogue and questions for the person being interviewed and everything is planned and scripted out. I'm sure even in some cases or most, the person being interview has received in advance a copy of some of the questions that will be asked. This is something I don't want to on Broke Straight Boys because I think it will take away from the "simpleton" style, low-brow interview, awkwardness type of speaking to the boys...I don't want myself and the boys speaking from a script...I rather keep it improve style because some of the stuff we say and do comes across naturally funny and it makes the boys more at ease.

I hope that some members that post here can see my point of view and the reasons for my style that is naturally unique to me and this site.

Hey Scorpio, my thoughts do not seem to be translating to words very well, When i say 'put the solos in the behind the screens area" what I am saying is that these are Auditions, albeit, a crutial part of the recruitment process to see if the potential models are able to work on camera (well at least that is the impression i get) I personally wouldnt categorise an Audition as part of a sexual encounter, therefore I see it more of a behind the scenes or 'added' feature within Broke Straight Boys.

My intention was not to get at your interview style... I know your not Barbara Walter, lol, you do a great job and you manage to build a level of raport with the guys who in turn feel comfortable to undress and jerk off etc infront of you. To which is an aquired skill that many people do not hold, and would give there left nut to be able to do it. I would never suggest a script, it wouldnt work and it wouldn't fit the image of the website and its following. Your interview style differs from a way I communicate on a day to day basis and i can struggle to adjust. But hey thats whats made you your fotune! - I never meant for it to be criticism meerly a sugestion.

All i wanted to know was if anyone felt the same as me, that there was a more appropriate place for the the solos, and for them not to get in the way of the real action. I dont pretent to know what goes on when that camera clicks off and it is probably due to my lack of understanding that this has come across the wrong way.
D&E - keep doing what you are doing. Some of the shots you have are legendary.

The solo is not always the greatest, but think they are needed. You learn alot about the model and get a tease of what they may be like with another guy. I watch them all and think the way you do them is just fine and should continue. I want to see them progress from first solo to orgy....

Sorry to read that you are leaving the forum John. In the short time that you have been here, you have become one of the more interesting posters on the board. While I don't always agree with you, I enjoy your definitive opinions and the way you express them. I'd rather read an interested, opinionated person than someone who agrees with me, but doesn't really have anything new, interesting or controversial to say.

Some guys we have to put in solos. If you imagine for a moment that you are straight and barely 20 and we put you in front of cameras with bright lights and people watching. Add the fact that we want you to do something with a guy which you haven't done before. It doesn't always work out so we make you more comfortable by putting you in a scene by yourself. When I was 20 I couldn't even imagine doing this....

I have said in a number of posts that the format of Broke Straight Boys should not be changed from it's basic premise. It works, as the saying goes "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" (no pun intended).

I wait for my roomate to snore for at least 20 minutes before I do it with him in the room and we have been in the same dorm room for 6 months!
So I do understand the solo's and although I enjoy the due or more scenes I support the solos because that is how it has to be!
I have never even admitted doing it, jacking off, to my closest friends.

The solos are not going away...but are limited pending on the guy and his mood before filming. Again, many think our scenes are scripted. I wish we lived in a perfect world that everything we do was scripted and we can stay on target with our scripts.

Unfortunately, when a guy is here filming, we have no clue what is going to happen so based on there mood and the way they feel, at times we need to place them into a solo.

Oh! I agree it sets the tone and why the model is on this site. I'm just trying to figure out some creative ways to make the solos a bit more interesting.

For me, solos are boring..but its necessary because at times the models are super nervous. For example, today we had a model that actually walked off the set because he was so nervous...but I convinced him to do a solo. At times we need to do them.

I know some members emailed me asking to have them use dildos, but many of these guys are straight and experimenting with sex for the first time with a guy (I know its hard to believe ) so its really difficult to get them to play with a Dildo so what suggestions can you guys give me for models that don't want to play with dildos on a solo shoot? What would you guys like to see in a solo??
