Hey,

Whenever I log into Broke Straight Boys the first thing I do is check and see what, if any, new updates have been added. So when I logged in last night and saw the new Anthony, Steven and Mike update, this was all good, but when I went to check what was coming up.. there were only 2 solo shoots. Now I can only speak for myself, but personally I do not find these shoots a turn on in anyway. I rarely if ever watch them because for me they are boring, dull and very uneventful until the last 30 seconds. But hey if thats what floats your boat by all means, thats why we have access to 'Straight Boys Jerk Off' right?..
So i put it to my fellow members and Broke Straight Boys team - I am by no means saying stop shooting them or stop putting them on the site as that would be unfair to those member who do watch them, but can they not be put in the 'behind the scenes' area.. or something? One of the hottest videos that is on this site has been updated as a behind the scenes shoot (Scott and Leon obv).. and i know this isnt a typical set up for a shoot, however 'Broke Straight Boys Party Series 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5' were all weekly updates.

Does Anyone Agree With Me? Or I am On My Soap Box Alone Again??

I wanna stress that i love this site and love (most of) the work you guys do, I just wanna see more Guy on Guy@and less 'guy on pam-n-her-5-sisters'...

Is there enough room on that soap box for both of us?
While I am not a fan of the solo's, I do watch every scene that is presented to us. I look at solos as a necessary evil, but also as a great tool to introduce us to the new boys, if only David were a better interviewer. To do a good interview, one must ask open ended questions that require more than a one word answer. For example, instead of asking "Are you gay, straight or bi?", which is a multiple choice question requireinng one to answer with a,b or c, the same question could be worded something like "Tell me how you would describe your sexuality and why, also how does that fit in with you being here today?" Another typical question Dave usually asks is "You've jacked off before right?" or "When's the last time you jacked off?" again these question elicit a one word answer, so one may ask instead "Every guy has a jack off routine, a favorite time of day, a favorite place and a favorite method, maybe even a favorite toy they use to get off. Describe your routine, your favorites and how many times a day you do it." The key here is to wait for a response, silence makes people uncomfortable, so if you aren't in a hurry to hear your own voice, the interview subject will usually continue to elaborate for you as long as you don't inturrupt him. Give them time to answer, you can always edit out the uncomfortable silences. Most people love to talk about themselves if given half a chance. While money may be a motivator, it is not the only motivation for these boys being here, they are here because they like sex, they want to try sex with guys, or they think they are really good at having sex, otherwise they would'nt be here, there are plenty of other ways to make a buck without getting buck naked in front of a camera, so use that to your advantage.
So I guess what I am saying, in a 1007 words is, I don't watch the solos to get off, I watch them in hopes of getting to know the boys a bit better before they are paired up with someone else. - J

I agree with you Jason, as I also always watch the solos to learn who the new model is. I also enjoy watching him get naked, and hard and eventually "get off". And I can get excited, and "off" myself watching a very hot guy who turns me on with his story as much as his looks and his body. Tank Shane is an example of a guy I really got into the first time he got naked and jerked off, as he is very much the kind of straight guy that really turns me on.

However I'm not dissatisfied with David's way of interviewing the guys. I believe that there is a method to his madness. I love how Slim refers to David's manner of speech as "Klutziness". He does not come across as a slick big city pornmeister who is out to get his pound of flesh for some cash. Instead he comes across as an easygoing guy who is trying to keep the guys relaxed with some very general not ultra revealing questions. I believe that the shy boys would not open up much more, even with more probing (no pun intended) questions. And the outgoing more confident guys mange to tell us their stories despite David not being Barbara Walters or Mike Wallace.

So I do enjoy the solos, and I don't mind how David approaches the newbies either.

yeah come on up - there is tons of room up here.
I really like what you have said, and I have often thought there is certain lack of interviewing technique on David's part -On camera atleast.. but hey thats not his fault, he shoots the scene, he isnt an investigative reporter for the Daily Planet. I have two journalists in my family. One works in TV and the other for a magazine, and you always end up having the most amazing conversations with them and it is purely down to their conversational skills. i.e Questioning technique and active listening. Which going back to the point i was making, this shouldnt qualify as an update- the solos should be behind the scenes updates, with an interview and a jerk off. That way you can still watch them as and when you require, yet people like myself are not left feeling unsatisfied - we all win!

I do tend to get things like this stuck in my head and go on a bit of a rant, so someone tell me to shut up if i keep going on.
Anyone else agree? or Disagree even?

Peace and Love
J

Some guys we have to put in solos. If you imagine for a moment that you are straight and barely 20 and we put you in front of cameras with bright lights and people watching. Add the fact that we want you to do something with a guy which you haven't done before. It doesn't always work out so we make you more comfortable by putting you in a scene by yourself. When I was 20 I couldn't even imagine doing this....

Sorry Mark,
I dont think ive put my point across the right way because I am by no means saying that you guys should not do the solo shoots - I understand they are neccessary for the new guys to be introduced to the camera and the workings of the set etc. The point I make is that I don't see why these have to be put onto the episode list, and part of the 3x weekly update. My thought instead would be to have 3x weekly updates of actual guy on guy and the solos be introduced through the 'behind the scenes' area.
My main reason for bringing this up, is that I personally do not like these shoots, as per reasons i stated earlier, and I dont watch them, so to have 2 in the same week, like this week, has pretty much left me with no update for the week.
I wanted to know if any other members felt the same - and if not.. thats cool, business as usual.

I think Broke Straight Boys is not your "typical" porn site. Yeah some members just watch episodes, jack off and leave, but most of our members like to see the evolution of our guys. Putting them in a solo shoot first makes you learn more about him so once this model does a "Duo sex" scene, then you kinda have an idea of who he is...

And we update so often that you'll soon be watching some hot sex scenes :)

I don't like solos and never watch them either, but I totally agree with Mark though. Solos are absolutely necessary, and essential. They're the only way to introduce the new guy, and also there are many members who love to watch the evolution of the new guy from nervous amateur Broke Straight Boys doing his first solo to the same guy fucking the daylights out of someone a couple months later! I'm willing to put up with solos for these reasons (even though I don't even watch them). However, I only want to see 1 solo of each model though! I look at a model's solo scene the same way as networks look at the pilot episode of a particular tv show that's being pitched to them. They make the decision to purchase a season of the show based on its pilot episode that they screen.

I think for the most part, any time a new guy shows up on here in his solo episode, we all talk about it and decide amongst ourselves if we're excited to see him do more. And typically, when someone who we love in his solo is shown to be in his first action scene in the upcoming episodes section, we all go crazy in anticipation talking about it!

I do, however, agree that it would be maddening as hell to go a full week with nothing but solos for updates.

It would be nice if they could space the scenes out a little more, to mix things up a bit. I'm NOT suggesting that they wait 2 years before they bring out another old scene that was shot 2 years ago, but instead that they use common sense and their own good judgment when planning the scene roll-out schedule in conjunction with the production schedule. This way we would only get 1 solo scene to every 2 full action scenes, and never go more than 1 update without a full action scene.

IN THE ORIGIONAL THREAD I STATED:

I understand how things go when a new model arrives - its like a scene from a Jerry Springer episode.. not everyone will agree - and i tend to not read the threads about the new models until ive seen them myself. But Again I am not suggesting solos be REMOVED simply MOVED...

I hope my point is clear now - cos ive read my origional thread and it doesn't seem that confusing!

I said it before a solo with David talking and directing and the crew filming is not really a solo the guy has sex with all of them. I rather see a few guys but enjoy what is presented and the developement of a new guy needs a solo to begin. If we see everything from the beginning it's necessary. To tell David what he should do would be best done in private mail.

I think it would be nice t have them in the behind the scene area as well.

Your point is quite clear John, however unlike many of you, I can actually enjoy the anticipation, and the nervousness of a young first time model, as David talks to him, and explains what is going to happen both today and in future shoots, if the young man is going to come back to make even more money. And of course the "great reveal" of his naked young body for the first time is a huge turn on too.

In other words, I am one of the few here who can enjoy a solo, (providing the model turns me on), and I'm not interested in moving all of the solos to the small streaming screen and not the HD productions that I've come to enjoy.

In fact, I am as likely to fast forward through or totally skip a fucking scene than I am for a solo. Perhaps I am just the "queer" one here. :blushing:

That's where I'm at on this issue. I agree with all the people who feel that solos are are useful and necessary. Even if they are not the most entertaining. Because it is nice to get an introduction to a new model when they have the camera to themselves.

We sometimes gain interesting background info from them at the very beginning. I enjoy finding out things like whether they like fast cars or they enjoy painting. Whether they are the youngest of 4 kids. How many times they jack off per day or week. Etc.... haha

I will just concur with those who are suggesting that solos not be updated consecutively. And that there be at least one sex scene separating any 2 solo vids.

Everyone bitched when vids were posted out of order, and now people bitch because they ARE in order. What a fickle bunch.

How about letting the guys do their jobs and enjoy the fruit of that work?

I think it would be nice t have them in the behind the scene area as well.

Thanks Amcovtime!
Was begining to think I was the only one who felt that the solo videos were a waste of my money. Only needed one person to agree with me to satisfy my angst.

Point being Scott.. I personally have not been enjoying the fruit of their work, hence the discussion. Nothing to do with the order of the videos, could care less just as long I find them and there aint anything missing.

I really appreciate everyones comments, this was not a critisism of anyone, It was meerly me utilising an outlet for my frustration on feeling short changed as a customer. I am not gonna bitch or moan about it anylonger. It is what it is and the decision lies with me whether I stay or whether i go. :001_unsure:

Peace out.

I subscribe to several sites. They ALL do solos for first timers, for the very reason Mark explained. It's a great way to get to know the model. Besides that, I just enjoy them. Different strokes. hehe

I subscribe to a few sites myself and yeah they all do solos (granted some more than others)- The site I have been a member for the longest is Active Duty and their solo shoots are stored elsewhere from the Main Streaming Videos of that week. Makes it earier for me to by pass. So hey, different stokes for differnt folks. :001_rolleyes:

And not everyone is going to like every single video either. There are certain models that don't do anything for me, and a few times they've been in 2-3 updates in a row. The idea that someone feels shortchanged because they don't like solos-given all the other sites available with the membership-is ridiculous.

While I am not a fan of solos as I have stated in the past I do think we need to be fair to all the members. As has already been said, we all have different tastes. I would also point out that the last time there were back to back solos was Jan. 6 & 9 (Owen & Christian) and I don't believe there was any flack there. To find another example of back to back solos, you need to all the way back to Oct./Nov. 2007 with Kent and Giovianni. So within the last 2 1/2 years this has not been an issue. If you go back further in 07 and 06 you would find more examples, but in these earlier days that was more the formula to get those "Straight" boys in front of the camera. Now-a-days David does not always shoot solos, he goes straight (no pun intended) to the duos.

If I had a choice of having the episodes done in order (which could include back to back solos) or mixing them up so we don't have them back to back, I would vote for keeping them in order.

Live Long and Prosper,

Vicekid

You mean to say you are older than 20 - well that has blown another fantasy
