Ponderings for April 16th 2022

So I was out driving and running some errands, and I saw this jogger on the side of the road. After doing a double take, it was the asshole from Grindr that was making fun of my body saying I shouldn't be showing it. What a small world, I hadn't thought about this for over a year as I've been off Grindr since April of last year. Kind of bummed me out bringing up all those memories of being tormented through school for my fat body. I have a reasonably thick skin, but damn it still hurts occasionally.
You should have run him over Chac. lol. I guess not that but some people are just fucking cruel and deserve bad things to happen to them. I am sensitive as well and can still remember negative comments made to me and about me from many years ago and they still hurt when I think about them. It sucks that people can be that insensitive and cruel. Hopefully karma will fuck them over in some way at some point in their lives too.

Whelp it's been a coons age since I posted here, and nearly 3 years since starting this thread. Today was a good day I guess, I had to go for my first full body skin check up at the dermatologist. I was already as nervous as could be and this hot 20 something gentleman walks out of the office and while he's chatting with the receptionist getting his next appointment scheduled he's absent-mindedly standing there constantly adjusting himself while in Gray sweatpants. FML 😭. Figures that my nurse practitioner is a smoking hot guy and I'm going to be naked in front of him and the nurse LOL I was thinking of horrible things to not get a boner 🤣

Hope everyone's day has been awesome!
How long is a coons age? As in raccoon? Fascinating.

I've never been to a dermatologist at all. Is this a common thing?

I go to the dermatologist yearly for a full body scan. He once found a pre-cancerous growth on my face, and on my most recent visit removed a small growth on my nose which was non-malignant. It is included with my health plan for a $20 co-payment so I feel it is a wise preventative thing to do if the cost is not prohibitive, depending on your coverage.

And I did a quick google search and this is the AI answer to your first question, Treb.

“A coon's age" is an informal American English expression that means a very long time. It's similar to saying "a long time," "forever," or "an eon," according to Collins Dictionary and Merriam-Webster.

The phrase likely originated from a misunderstanding about the lifespan of raccoons, which are often referred to as "coons".While raccoons in the wild typically only live for a few years, the expression suggests a period of time that's longer than their usual lifespan. “

I suppose I could have googled it myself. I like to ask other people things that are probably easily answered by Google because it allows for perhaps a greater conversation to come about.

I'm currently taking a class called Ethics of Artificial Intelligence and I recently brought up in class discussion how dependent people are on the first answer they see (this is not a slight against you, Mikey! I do it too.) and how we can easily fall to m/disinformation because of it.

Assuming the origin given there is correct, it is quite surprising, as small mammals are, at least in my experience, known to live short lives. My own dear gato is 16 years old and I am terrified every time I come home that I'll find him dead.

I had also wondered, since so much of American history is based in racism, if it were of racist origin. I know that coon has been a slur against Black people. Thinking along those lines, could Google actually sensor racist word origins as some sort of appeal to the Trump administration's rejection of DEI?

Interesting perspective on the possibility of a racist origin. I'm from New England and it's a colloquial saying.

And if a potential date orders Manhattan clam chowder, we are done. Chowdah needs to be thick, almost stand a spoon straight up in it and it better have pork fat and cream in it 😆

The old cliche of how fast time goes by as we grown older just hit me. I am old fashioned, (and just plain old too, lol), and keep my appointments on a real paper hanging wall calendar as opposed to on my iPhone. I just looked to see what appointments I have for June and as I turned the page I noticed the fold in my calendar with the staple was right there indicating that the year will be half over at the end of the month. Wasn’t it just New Year’s Eve and 2025 just began? Crazy shit dude!

I got a big chuckle out of your post, I too still keep my appointments on a wall calendar in my kitchen. Yes this year is half over and has gone so fast.

So true, time is flying by way too quickly. My nephew is graduating highschool. Shit, feels like 2 minutes ago he was in diapers puking on me when burping him after a bottle 🤣

When I contemplate time, I sometimes think about how I have had so much time to think about how quickly time passes. I think about all the people who came before me, and my contemporaries, and the future generations, and how it was/will all be over in a blink of an eye.

My late mama once said to me, "How did I get so old?" It was a weird moment (it made me burst into tears). I knew she experienced time like anyone else, but to hear it from her at that moment was startling. I suppose it should make me feel good that I have so many fellow travelers with me, but it just makes it feel more tragic. Human self-awareness is a blessing and a curse.

Not sure what point I'm making. Shrug.

You are making a very important point, Treb. In fact it may be the most important point of all in human life. We are all here for a very finite period of time, actually an infinitesimal period of time. And the point is for us to enjoy every day that we have to the best of our ability. Easier said than done, though……..
