Politics Discussion

I’m now 10 days clean and news free! It’s been hard but I sense if I know nothing for the next 4 years and 3 1/2 months, I’ll be a happier and better person.
I’ve actually turned the news off too. I only hear things that other friends post on social media.

A few have or are being investigated for some sort of sex crime. I'd like to say I'm surprised, but I'm not unfortunately. Our house leader has indicated the investigation should stay sealed on Gaetz. What a fucking disgrace this country is turning out to be. Run by accused (one convicted) rapists and child predators.

Democracy will probably not survive a Republican supermajority. But the uneducated people spoke, so we are stuck for at least 4 years of this charade.

The wolf has eaten all the hens.

Politics thread only.....

If you want to talk about politics this is the thread. All other threads will be either deleted or merged into this thread. Thank you!
I am not an American. I’m Canadian. Also politics in Canada are a powder keg waiting to go off because the cake the conservative party is a reflection of Trump ism and it’s scary people want change but for what democracy. All across Canada people hate the Trudeau government the liberal party, but never as a Canadian. Do we talk about politics at the dinner table? Why because it’s rude and never speak with people you don’t know politics religion and sports because you don’t know their opinions I had a discussion with my sister about climate change which I’m passionate about and can’t understand why some people deny it exist but stay away from discussing. It’s a red flag topic also religion stay-away topic. Sports is not popular either you never know so don’t come to the table with these three topics. Also I don’t think it’s appropriate Broke Straight Boys there are plenty of other places, not in a porn site.

There are 2 sections to this forum. General and porn related. This thread is called “politics discussion”. If it offends you, don’t read. There are plenty of things that do not interest me on this forum so I do not read or participate in those threads.

I agree with Jay that topics like politics, sports, entertainment, music, etc. are fine here. This is why when Mark recently asked us if we thought that he should move everything back to one forum, I said No as we can just read the sections and topics that interest us.

Exactly, I don't read things that I don't have an interest in, mostly sports as my former teams are a shell of what they once were 😞

Watching this from Canada... There are certain issues at play that some folks may downplay or not consider:

1. Immigration has greatly helped countries like Canada, the United States, France, the United Kingdom, Australia, Sweden, Belgium, and Germany develop, enrich themselves (just think of all the music, spectacles, markets and restaurants from different cultures), but it is not possible for those countries to receive all the migrants and asylum seekers in the world.

There is already so much, so much poverty in Canada, with some working families now resorting to food banks! So much homelessness with its lot of problems. And a huge increase in crime, esp. juvenile crime, despite all the recent societal calls to be respectful to others (signs in stores and subway stations, messages on public services phone lines, #MeToo, no harassment/discrimination/inappropriate conduct clauses on contracts, etc.). Car theft has exploded, arson has exploded, violence is escalating, dangerous poisonous drugs are circulating, etc. The premier of the province of Quebec has repeatedly let it be known that Quebec, though a welcoming land, just can't receive all those migrants and asylum seekers,! There are other Canadian provinces w/ far less people than Quebec and Ontario that won't receive all of them... And the USA, from what is reported, is facing very similar issues.

2. There must a be proper vetting system, esp. after the horrific wave of recent terrorism (from the Orlando Pulse nightclub [USA]—to the Bataclan [France]—to the Reina [Turkey]—to the Lindt Café [Australia]—to the Crocus City Hall [Russia], and so forth...). Barring entry to terrorists and extremists who may want to radicalize natives of their new country of residence. Education so newcomers abide by all laws and customs of their new home.

3. The overall economy is dwindling, and that's the TOP priority issue to many voters, esp. when some kids and adult can't properly be fed, there's a serious housing crisis, the cost of public transportation has more than quadrupled (in Quebec, it septupled) since the 80s, etc.

4. Too many wars going on in the world putting the entire planet at risk! Certain warmongering nations (like Iran) should NOT be enabled or funded.

5. COVID measures, though aimed at saving lives, actually cost many their lives, and some voters do not want a repeat of that.

6. Abortion regulations are left to each State to decide, and there will always be pro-lifers who do not want their tax money to fund it. Pro-lifers and pro-choicers should unite and work together to promote access to effective birth control, teach people about consent, etc.

All in all, there are many reasons why some voted Trump or Kamala. It is an oversimplication to assume that more than 76 million women and men of all ages and ethnicities who voted Trump are crazed White supremacists and bigots. That said, that Project 2025 thing is concerning and must never come to pass!

They may not all be “crazed White supremacists and bigots”, but something is mentally wrong with a person who would nominate him in the first place. There were better choices and they went with him. A twice impeached, convicted felon, sexual assaulter. So I do question 76 million American’s mental state. Sorry, not sorry!

To compare the two candidates is laughable. Maybe people didn’t like her polices, but Trump isn’t going to do a God Damn thing about gasoline and groceries which is what most of his supporters claim the reason they voted for his fat ass. Millions of Americans, like me, will probably lose their health insurance because of pre existing conditions because he has NEVER shown what his replacement is. He’s been asked countless times and his response has always been “it’s coming out in 2 weeks” and it was never released. His most recent response to having a plan was “I have concepts of a plan”. He ain’t got shit. He just wants to fuck us all over.
And COVID. Don’t get me started on COVID The worst of COVID was under his watch.

I completely agree with Jay. The number one issue to most people is the economy, everything cost so much more than it used to, and the reflex reaction is to blame the current administration, regardless of the fact that the U.S. has reduced inflation more than any other post Covid economy.

And on the issues at the southern border, the Biden administration in conjunction with a bi-partisan committee in Congress lead by conservative Republican Senator James Lankford introduced a bill with tough border security but it was never voted into law. Why? Because candidate Trump strong armed Republican lawmakers to not vote on the bill, as he was afraid it would make Biden look good. Trump is and always has been all about Trump and his rich friends and donors, not about what’s best for the people.

So now Trump and Maga World have the executive branch, Congress and the Supreme Court in his back pocket. So let’s see what happens with the economy. Will prices come down? Not if he institutes his tariffs. Prices will go up. Will crime go down in the inner cities? Most crimes are committed by U.S. citizens and not undocumented migrants, so I think his cruel deportations will have little effect.

And if prices remain high and crime is unchanged, perhaps in two years Americans will stop voting for the dishonest Trump loyalists. Everything is cyclical. Trumpism is not forever, I hope and pray.

Matt Gaetz has withdrawn his acceptance of the nomination. He went begging yesterday to the Senate Republicans and did not receive a warm welcome. The issue now is who will Trump nominate in his place. Those of you who had the stomach to read his "book" will recall he advocated using the tactic of offering an obviously out-of-the-ballpark bad proposal and then when it is rejected, offering the one he actually wanted which was equally one-sided but not as disgusting as the first offer. It is an old negotiation tactic very popular among district attorneys and personal injury plaintiff attorneys. So, the question is, who is next for the slot, and how big a yes-man, fascist wanna-be is he?

I’ve been skeptical about the Matt Gaetz pick from the outset. First it provided cover for him to resign from Congress the day before the damning report about him was to be released. Ostensibly the resignation was because of his nomination to the cabinet post. But it also meant the report would not be released, as he was no longer a member of Congress.

And second his nomination sucked up all the oxygen and gave cover to Tulsi Gabbard, RFK Jr., Hegseth, Linda McMahon, etc., etc. Now the scrutiny returns to them, but with the reprehensible Gaetz out it may cover the tracks to allowing them all in. And who will be Trump’s pick to replace Gaetz? Matt Gaetz may have just been smoke to cover the real pick.
