This is not a live performance but rather the studio version with lyrics. Simon and Garfunkel are one of the best musical acts of my lifetime. Paul Simon is a lyrical genius and Art Garfunkel has a beautiful voice and the two harmonize in a magical way. This is a GREAT song in my humble opinion.

I received a notice on my phone a few minutes ago that Bobby Sherman died at age 81. I had a big time crush on him and his songs were cute and catchy. He was a major teeny bopper pop star of that era.

I heard today that Connie Francis died at age 87, a good run. All I can think of when I hear her name is one song, emblematic of my favorite vacation spot Fort Lauderdale, that song being “Where the Boys Are”. And I sure met lots of “boys” there, (of legal age of course ). Even two young men who I met there and brought to New York to live with me. Neither lasted terribly long, but those are stories for a different thread. But Connie’s name and this song always brings me back to my vacations and adventures in Fort Lauderdale.

One more note about the film, “Where the Boys Are”, whose theme song sang by Connie Francis which became a song closely identified with Fort Lauferdale. The Marlin Beach Hotel became the focal point for gay activity on Fort Lauderdale Beach, where I would vacation each spring for many years. I would partake in where I used to call the three B’s, baseball, (the Yankees had their spring training facility), the beach, and the boys.

Poop Deck

The Marlin Beach Hotel, Fort Lauderdale — Parts of the 1960 spring break classic, Where The Boys Are, were filmed at this hotel, which ironically became a gay resort in 1974. Much of the cheesy 1984 film remake was also shot here. Its popular disco, The Poop Deck, held daily afternoon t-dances. It closed in 1992.
