Thanks to all who have joined in on this sublimation discussion. Sublimation is only necessary because our society conditions all children that they must be straight in their sexual orientation whether they are or not. Social conditioning is a powerful force, particularly in a young male's teenaged years, where social acceptance of the herd becomes all important. The power of these social forces is such that many who turn out to be gay sincerely believe that they are straight as they start out in their youthful sexual life, and most but not all sublimation is subconscious. In sexual development I went from straight to bi to gay phases in that order. As a football player in high school and throughout college, 100% of my sex acting out was heterosexual. Yet I was very much aware of my same sex attraction but felt it unthinkable to act out upon. While I did not have all the societal approved grabs, gropes and holds that wrestling did, football and most sports have one - the societal approval to pat a teammate or opponent on the butt, so I made sure to pat all of my more attractive teammates and opponents on the ass as much as possible. After taking my Psych 101 course in college and learning about sublimation, whenever I was attracted to a hot male classmate, I would think to myself: "Sublimate, sublimate!" But post college, the power of social conditioning began to decrease, I spent a few years partaking of the sexual favors of both genders and finally evolved to accepting that I just liked dudes best. But I was the minority having some conscious sublimation. For the overwhelming majority, science teaches us that it is subconscious (yes, meaning even obnoxious homophobes can have it and be so inclined). As for Mikeyank's observation that some gay guys project onto straight guys, of course, that kind of reverse gaydar is the case in many instances as well.

I have read your posts regarding your journey from straight to bi to gay both here and in a now defunct forum we both belonged to, KG. I am curious if during your “straight” football playing, jock life if you ever did anything sexual with a teammate or even let an equipment manager give you head in the locker room? Did you ever get or notice fellow teammates get erections in the showers after games? That’s the kind of real life stories that turn me on big time.

KG your explanation is for me very interesting and right on even when you have parents like I had that would approve of you what ever your sexual identity was it is society that was the cause for me. There was 1 good thing however that came out of this my 3 sons.

I have read your posts regarding your journey from straight to bi to gay both here and in a now defunct forum we both belonged to, KG. I am curious if during your “straight” football playing, jock life if you ever did anything sexual with a teammate or even let an equipment manager give you head in the locker room? Did you ever get or notice fellow teammates get erections in the showers after games? That’s the kind of real life stories that turn me on big time.

The only blow jobs I received in my high school football playing days were from females, mainly female cheerleaders. Besides my previously discussed strong social conditioning, I attended an ultra conservative Catholic high school. But even without that, I was so strongly conditioned to believe that I was straight, that sex with another male was unthinkable and that same sex attraction was an urge to be resisted that I just was not ready back then and would not have done that. Re your second question, did I ever check out the other guys in the team showers (as did they)! What I and most of the others excelled in was the "half hard on" which believably could be claimed not to be a hard on but but rather just a big dick. Of course, since no one was allowed to comment on the size of a teammate's equipment because he would have received the "What are you looking at?" retort, if anyone did pop a boner, no one would be allowed to comment on it! If only I had my present mind set back then, then I most definitely would have accepted a team manager's offer of head and probably would have fucked him as a sign of my appreciation!

Thanks KG for answering my question, as disappointing as the answer was. lol Even back when I was in high school, I'd read in the public library, (not my school library), that approximately 10% of the male population was at least incidentally homosexual. And I used to count the guys in my gym class and besides myself I'd wonder out of a class of thirty, who the other two were. Oh the thought process of a closeted homosexual back in the mid sixties.
