Still no power, took a quick ride around and its fucking disgusting, power lines and trees down everywhere. They said my power may be back on tonight by their estimate (I'll believe it when I see it hahahaha), but I'd rather they get the elderly complex up first that my dad lives at LOL. I at least have heat and hot water (condo has a generator for just that stuff so we don't freeze pipes.)

The bad news is that it’s currently 22 degrees and bitter cold this morning in New York City. The good news is that the weather forecasters have said that today will be the coldest day until next winter. Apparently our long cruel winter is about to end.

This past Saturday reached 50 and much of last week’s massive snow has melted. Today there was just a few patches on the sides of the roads and sidewalks and with rain and warmer temperatures this coming week, hopefully it will be all gone by the end of the week,………at least I hope so. I’ve had enough!!!

A pretty morning with the sun reflecting off the Staten Island Ferry crossing the East River and a high near 70 later today, and NO dirty piles of snow on the ground for the first time in months. I know that winter will probably have a last gasp or two before it’s actually Spring but for today and the next few days, it is great to be outdoors again! Have a good day to all!

Within the past month, we’ve had sub freezing temperatures and a blizzard with 15” of snow on February 22 here in New York City. And we had an 80 degree day last week. Today we are settling into a more typical weather pattern for mid March. It is currently 48 degrees and sunny, but the trees are all still bare. It is remarkable to me how quickly the buds will soon start to form, followed shortly thereafter by green leaves, as well as flowers emerging from the earth too. I always enjoy Mother Nature doing her thing particularly in the Spring with lots of natural beauty on its way.

But as of today, it’s pretty outside but we are still in the waiting period for Spring to come!!!

Spring seems to be coming very slowly this year with temperatures all over the place, being at 81 one day last week with a low forecast for tonight at 31 F. But today is partly sunny and windy. The first noticeable signs of spring around here each year are the pretty white flowers on the pear trees, which I noted earlier today.

I’ve posted many of my own pics taken on my walks through DUMBO showing the fixed up tourist area where travelers from all across the world visit. But I just saw a photo from 1958 in a Brooklyn facebook group. I grew up in a different part of Brooklyn but that area looked more like this photo when I first moved to this area in the late 1970’s.

2026 has been a year of extremes with the weather in New York City, snow storms, ice storms and frigid cold and this week record highs for the dates going above 90 yesterday. But today was quite lovely with mid 70’s and a gentle breeze. I went down to Brooklyn Bridge Park for the first time this year, I think. And I continued into the touristy neighborhood of DUMBO.

From watching YouTube, I know that spring has fully taken place in many parts of the country but in Brooklyn, it still in its early stages. Here is what I saw today, looking for signs of spring in Brooklyn.

I also was on an investigative mission today as well.

I posted this first pic a few days ago that I saw online of the area known today as DUMBO from 1958 when it was pretty much abandoned warehouses near the Brooklyn Bridge. I wanted to get the same shot today, but there’s been so much construction in the park that I couldn’t physically get to that spot, but this is as close a representation as I could of that area. The warehouse on the right is no longer there. Here are a couple of angles of the area from today.

Each year I look forward to the azaleas coming into bloom. There is a large corner house in my neighborhood that has several bushes and I watch them each April for signs of blooming. Last week I saw little pink buds mid week and by yesterday most are in bloom, with one section still buds.
