Hey everyone! Ian Dempsey Here!

Thanks for responding Ian. :)

I'm so happy and relieved to know that it's working out reasonably well so far, under the circumstances.

Take care! xo

Hey Ian,
Uuuuhhhhh okay, some questions for you (she said, sheepishly):
1. Why do you prefer to photograph people rather than scenery?
2. HYPOTHETICALLLY, your girlfriend has been doing porn (straight and lesbian) how do you react? I should add that this is a serious relationship. I mean you go by Starbucks and buy her coffee and everything; she is the one!
3. Can you walk us through how a Broke Straight Boys scene is done. Is it all planned for you? Do you plan it with the model(s) you will be with and Clay? Is it easier to be with a newbie or a "Paul?"

Ian: I don't often get the chance to see your video posts due to my work hours. I do catch them on occasion though. I just happened to read this thread about your little situation. I feel for you in the most sincere way because, that kind of thing just sucks-big time. And the truth is, "No body's got time for that shit", (when it comes to others creating drama in our lives.) Your true friends will always stick by you no matter what! I am sure it will soon be "yesterday's news" and there will be someone else in the headlines! I know that you knew there was a "risk" and that you managed to get through 8 months without drama, so hang in there. As the saying goes, "This too shall pass".

Beth,

1: I like to take photos of people more than I do of scenery because with people there's more emotion that can be conveyed. And there's so much more that you can do with a person, or a group of people than with a landscape. You can't ask the mountains to shift over a bit, or ask the clouds to look off into the distance. Lol. I've always liked connecting with people and hearing their stories, and photographing them is a great way to learn that about a person.

2: If I had a serious girlfriend who did porn, I would just talk to her about it. Even if I found out from someone else because she was trying to keep it a secret I would just talk to her about the whole thing. For the first few weeks with Broke Straight Boys all I could think about was, "what if I found 'the perfect girl' while I'm doing this?" And even some of my friends have now begun to ask me the same question. And what I decided a long time ago was, when I find her, and I know she's the one, I will retire from porn. It wouldn't be fair to her. And I would tell her that I did do porn. If she decided to accept this fact, then we're all good. But there's not much I can do if she doesn't. For me personally, if my girlfriend did porn, I hope she would stop if it was a serious relationship, but it wouldn't change how I look at her. I fell in love with a girl who happens to do porn, that doesn't change anything about her.

3: I don't want to get too in depth about the process of scene making because I know some members say it ruins the fantasy. But usually when we get scheduled for scenes, its already determined who the scene is with, and what model has what position. Clay will usually finalize everything in the studio with the participating models and we just go from there. I would say that working with a new model is more difficult just because they don't know what to expect and don't know how to present themselves, so they're usually pretty skittish and mechanical. Working with a seasoned model is easier because we all know what needs to happen and what Clay is looking for.

What did you want to be growing up?

There were many things I wanted to be when I was growing up. At first, I wanted to be a roller coaster designer, then after my first dog died I wanted to be a veterinarian. From there I wanted to be an architect, then that change to being an author. In middle school I wanted to get into acting. When I started high school I wanted to be a comedic actor, then I got into photography so I wanted to be a photographer. I still want to do photography, but I think I also want to try stand up comedy. I think I would do well in that.

Ian, if your efforts here are any example, you would be good at whatever you set your mind to doing. You do express yourself well and you seem pretty flexible in your thinking.

Why thank you! :) I've always been open to really anything in life. And I always told my friends that, but I think they always thought that that was just me being funny. However, after everyone found out that I do this, I think they understand I wasn't joking around. Hahahaha

Sounds like you showed them that you're more complex and daring and fearless than they might have given you credit for. haha

Hey Ian,
Tomorrow is Tuesday, so I thought I would post some more questions...fuckin' curious bitch, aren't I?!
1. Do you go to a lot of "cultural events," such as museums, college seminars, book readings? Which ones/why?
2. Has the "turmoil" gotten back to your parents? I know you mom knows what you do, but have they "heard it through the grapevine?"
3. Okay, time to start thinking about college...so you can film for "College Dudes!" Just joking, or not; have you turned in any applications?

Thanks again for answering my questions...and maybe posting a photo...fuckin' bitch, I'm demanding too!:blushing:

Im sorry I'm just now responding to your post, Betu. These past few weeks have gotten better and I believe everything is starting to die down now. I learned that my best friend has known for some time, a few months actually. When I realized that he's known this whole time, and that he was still there for me, still wanted to hang out and party with me, meant a lot.

Beth, as always thanks for the continued questions. ;)

1. I actually don't do a whole lot of that at all. Lol. It's something I guess I've never thought about. I did however go to the Titanic exhibit at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science a few years back. That was really fun to experience. I've always had a fascination with the Titanic ever since I saw the movie as a kid. My friends make fun of me because I can quote that movie start to finish. "1500 people went into the water, when Titanic sank from under us. There were 20 lifeboats floating nearby, and only 1 came back... 1. 6 were saved from the water, myself included. 6, out of 1500. Afterward, the 700 of us on the boats had nothing to do but wait. Wait to die, wait to live. Wait for an absolution, which would never come." Hahaha

2. Thankfully my parents haven't gotten wind of any of this. Yes my mom knows, but thankfully she was never told about it from someone else. I need to tell my dad soon because I want to try and get on the Denver Fire Dept. and I don't need him finding out by surprise.

3. With college... maybe. Right now the plan is to still take the year off. If I get on with the department, I may just take some classes at the community college.

I have chosen this photo to share with you because I always like photos of people. It's kinda my strong suit. ;) This is a picture of my friend, Stephanie that I took while doing a summer studio program with the Art Institute my Junior year. I actually received a scholarship for the program, so I went for free. It was a 4 day thing where we learned how to use our cameras and change the settings and whatnot. We walked around Denver and took photos, they took us up to Red Rocks to photograph some models they brought in, and they let us use their studios for lighting projects. It was a really fun experience and I'm glad I did it. In fact, that was my original plan, to go to the Art Institute. I even received a $10,000 scholarship to go there, but when they told us that tuition for 3 years would be $91,000 that dream was thrown right out the window. My parents couldn't afford to even help pay for my loans and I would never make enough to pay it all back in the foreseeable future.

Again, a very nice photo. I like the way the background really becomes part of the person, tied in by her earrings. I would have liked to see her in a different shirt, maybe something that almost blended in the back ground. When you are going to shoot a person, do you recommend what they wear or have them bring a variety of clothing?

I appreciate you responding...and now may I add:
1. Have you read any of the diaries or actual accounts of the event. I remember teaching middle school the year the movie came out. We were "fighting the tide" of misinformation about what really happened versus the movie. We decided to do a 6-weeks project in comparison and contrast. Try checking out some of the web links to the actual Titanic disaster; it is very interesting.
2. As a parent, I would appreciate a "heads up" from my kid. You guys seem tight enough that he should hear it from you. Again, not that there is anything wrong with what you have chosen to do, but, "from your lips" would be best.
3. I would encourage you to continue, in some way, to build on your academic work. It doesn't have to be a full blown class, it can be a seminar, book reading or volunteer effort that strengthens your own understanding. As well, I wouldn't give up on the Art Institute. Email, call and talk to them about options; with more schooling in photography, you can only get better. See if there is an internship (grunt work) you can volunteer for...learning is learning. A lot of times, it is not the actual class that teaches, but the atmosphere that inspires! Good Luck

Hey Ian. I posted all my votes for you guys. I hope you're doing well.

I guess this whole episode with being outed as a porn star has given you am idea of some of things we gay people have had to put up with for so long. The thought that we would lose every friend we had if we ever came out. I think it's wonderful that you were so worried about what your best friend would think and how he would react to you if he ever found out about your video work. Instead the shoe was on the other foot most of the time. lol He kept on treating you with the same friendship, love and respect as always until you were ready to talk to him about your "secret" life. You know you have chosen some quality friends when that happens.
