Do any of you have a passion for something. I have been working flea markets since the mid-70s and have run across collectors of everything. There are people who collect stamps and coins. There are also people who collect buttons and old tin products. I like books (1st editions) and art (within my price range - cheap). You guys and gals have any passions in this direction?

I have been collecting Wizard of Oz for the past 35 years and have over 5,000 items. I also collect Tarzan, Harry Potter, Judy Garland,Gone With the Wind, Dark Shadows (the original series, not this new movie),I Love Lucy, celebrity autographs, and a few small collections. Now, aren't you sorry you askied? LOL

I collect road maps.

Why Road maps? Ive been a freak for maps ever since I was a boy. I have thousands of them. Once when I was a young boy in high school I wrote to Rand McNally the big map firm, and told them of my affection. I received in the mail a huge pile of maps in return, maps going back 20, 30 years with a handwritten note from someone who worked there. I was a kid who recieved a great treasure, gems I could never have acquired on my own. And it affirmed im not the only one who loved maps! A real person in this big California company sent this treasure to me. It was a big gift. l will remember that gesture, I surely will always. The kindness of strangers really holds true.

For years and years, I collected recordings from the theater. It started with LPs, but grew to include cylinders, 78s, CDs, videotapes, laser disks and DVDs. They were recorded through all of the 20th century and into the 21st. I bought my first computer to make a database catalog of the recordings.

My goal was to get a copy of every known commercially issued recording . . . and I did come close.

Now my collection is promised to (and accepted by) the Library of Congress when I pass on. When I'm long gone, I hope some scholar or researcher will get some benefit from my years of collecting -- or at least, some of the fun I had in collecting them.

WEll, I collect 4 things.

1. I collect old coins. I haVe many coins form the late 1800s, up to about the 1950s.
2. I collect ashtrays. There are so many beautiful ashtrays. I have one that is in the shape of an elephant, with the names Nixon-Agnew on it. Obviously, made during their Presidential race.
3. I collect elephants. I have a herd of about 500 elephants that I haVe collected over the last 40 years. Made of every possible metal, glass, and wood, my elephants cover everything imaginable. All my friends and relatives know of my collection and they all go out of their way to bring me exotic elephant figurines from all over the world. For example, I haVe a birdbath outside of an elephant (about 800# worth); I also have bedsheets with elephant designs; also have elephant place mats and elephant napkin rings. Needless to say,I have pictures, paintings, and postcards of elephants. I have commissioned a special urn (elephant) to hold my ashes when I am gone. Excessive? Perhaps, lol.
4. Last and most important, I have spent my life collecting men. Some of you have read my stories, "Tales of Lust and Seduction". These are based on true life experiences I have been fortunate to live. These stories, and many, many more, will be part of a collection that I will one day publish.

My Collection: Everything has a "shelf life" it seems...

Besides being a thoroughly obsessed car nut with decades of car magazines collected over a lifetime, I guess the single most significant collection having that "Gay appeal"(other than Gay Porn) I possess that justifiably rises to the level of
objet d'art
would be necessarily my collection of previously worn underwear from past loves I have collected over the years.

Being that they are "completely priceless one-of-a-kind works of art" and bestowed with that special blessed and inescapable
joie de vivre
unique to sexually active men. They were from their inception, bestowed with those uniquely fragrant manly scents and, even luckier yet, the occasional crusty patch from their outpourings of significant DNA samples generously provided and lovingly applied by their former inhabitant, without full realization of their supreme eminent destiny! They seem worthy to be displayed proudly amongst one's trophies acquired from a lifetime of ambition and "going where no man has gone before" (while freely admitting it). Yes they truly deserve to be preserved for posterity sake in a glass-enclosed display case filled from top to bottom with these fine delicate artifacts! Unlike the ancient dead sea scrolls unearthed in the middle eastern deserts and the like, these artifacts of mine are not preserved for all eternity in their humidity-free climate afforded to the dead sea scrolls.

Alas, my precious artifacts, be they tighty-whities or baggy boxers of old, have one major vulnerability unlike the dead sea scrolls. My precious artifacts cum with a "shelf-life" and after being appreciated an almost infinite number of times, many are now past the point of no return and have exceeded their "expiration date by more than one week.

In their old age one must ask oneself, "what will be their fitting destiny"? The answer is written in the shifting sands and I think I can just barely make it out. It says decisively :wtf: They were old and tired and by now they smelled BAD too! :blushing: While I feel verfy strongly about the value of recycling and have a history of putting this concept to good use, when all is said and done, YOU JUST GOT TO TOSS THOSE EXPIRED REMINDERS OF BETTER TIMES, REGARDLESS OF THEIR HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE! AFTER ALL, THEY ARE WHAT THEY ARE!

Sincerely have more shelf space now,:anyone: interested in making a deposit? I pay good long-term interest!

I once bought a 500 piece collection of elephants at an auction. I bought them for resale; however, I did keep one. I have yet to see sheets with elephant designs.

I actually do collect stuff apart from the aforementioned items. I collect concert tickets stubs to those that I have been to. I also am an avid collector of Vinyl records.

OMG, I would love to haVe bought it! As it is, I am thinking of turning a bedroom into a jungle motif and fill it with all the curios cabinets and other elephants.

I have a massive Disney collection, and (oddly) have a collection of Picasso sketches.

This must be one hell of a collection! How long have you been at it?

This in not really a collection, but more of an inventory of what I sell. I have 1000s of vintage ads, magazines covers, and other paper items. I sell them on weekends at local flea markets. Many of them frame up nicely and the price is really good.

More than a half-century.

I also forgot to mention that there are scores of great friends I've met over the years because of this collecting. They're almost as valuable to me as the recordings.

Interesting collection. I have been researching the local history of the town where I was born. Of course, as time goes by, stuff changes. Old maps or atlases are very valuable tools to researchers.
