Damien and Paul

I do agree with Damian that, and I've stated it before, there are things that need to be address behind the scenes which we have no right to be part of. I understand that and respect Damian, Mark, Sha for keeping them there. I do believe that sometime down the road, in a very quiet way, we will be surprised with new posts from our two boys. If I'm wrong, I will come out to Tampa and buy you dinner.

P.S. If you don't want dinner, then I have the boys dump ice water on me.

I did the math also after Damian's post and came to the same conclusion Vicekid. The magic number is 24 scenes. 12 per month for College Dudes and 12 for Broke Straight Boys With 3-4 scenes a day over 7 days, it's possible to reach the magic number to have enough scenes for a full month. Not easy at all, but definitely possible. I guess I just figured that nobody would want to put themselves through a grueling 7 day stretch like that. And that they would film several per week. Or at least over a 2-3 week period of the month. I do admit to and apologize for being wrong on that point.

I never turn down dinner and good conversation Vicekid. haha I hope you're right about them posting again. If so, then we'll just go Dutch and we'll still do dinner. :)

In an ideal world when there was an abundance of modes, and every model would turn up and there would be no unforeseen holdups then the figures would be right. I doubt very much if Broke Straight Boys are currently in that ideal world situation and that is where we are today.

Saying that, the Blake/Ian shoot must have been filmed a while back because Johnny was the cameraman. If it happened during Ian's Zeno Kostas shoot then that was in July.

Tampa, I am glad you did the math. I am also happy you chose the dinner option. An ice bath gave me the chills! I will be in Florida in Oct. as I'm taking a cruise out of Miami. Almost close enough for dinner. I hope to met up with David and Eddie for a few hours on eithr arrival day or departure day.

Live Long and Prosper,

Vicekid

And please add my well wishes to the guys too. I still consider David and BSB1 to be the "golden era" that established this site as the vanguard in reality based gay for pay porn. I hope both David & Eddie are doing very well.

Hey! Off topic, but can you tell me what it was about that time period that you enjoyed so much? Most sites that existed years ago aren't around anymore, but Broke Straight Boys still is. I was even a member at one point before i joined the team and had a major crush on CJ, lol. Feedback is welcome.....
I'm curious because i want to see a new "golden era". Reality porn in general has changed in the past few years and has become more polished and slick. What are you thoughts on this?

Our shooting schedule varies, but there have been stretches where we have filmed for two or more straight weeks without a break. The TV show was shot during a long stretch (very long, lol) as well. We also shot scenes during the time we shot the TV show. We worked 14 hour days or more sometime during that period. Then there is editing, so it's a full time operation. That's what we do and we have it down to a science. We work really hard, but we all love what we do. I guess that's why we have somewhere around 80TB of BTS video footage. I pull from the archives at times to give you moments that, although they happened in the past, are still worth sharing.

CJ was a great guy to "crush" on DC, as he fit into the mold of BSB1 very well. And as you repeated your question to me on another thread, I've tried to think it through to give you a fairly concise answer as to the difference between then and now. First of all I have to give credit to David who recruited the models and filmed the scenes. David's style was very different from that of Clay, Johnny or yourself. I once compared David to the character of Lieutenant Columbo as played by Peter Falk, in that he had a fumbling and bumbling style often repeating the same questions which disarmed the guys being interviewed, and gave them a comfort level which allowed them to give more honest responses to questions, than they might have to a more "professional" styled interviewer. And then there was the more present theme of the money in the early scenes. This gave the site more of a sense of reality, with the boys being offered more money to do more, right on camera, where we could watch their facial reactions as they apparently debated the pros and cons of an extra $500 in their pocket, to do something that they really didn't want to do.

There was also a factor pointed out by member johnny a while back, who was not a member in the early days, but has watched many of the BSB1 scenes. As he pointed out, in many of those scenes we did not know if the model would "do it" or not and which boy would top or bottom as the negotiations continued. And which models would become comfortable and become regulars, and which would do a single set of filming and then disappear. This uncertainty on the part of the viewer added to the reality aspect of the site. In later versions of Broke Straight Boys, we knew right from the start that one of the boys was here today to be fucked, and there was no drama as to what was going to happen, only how it would go down.

I also felt more of a connection with the models in the early days, as the progression was slower and more deliberate. I use Tyler Evans as an example of a true Broke Straight Boys, who progressed before our eyes, from a very young apparently straight teenager with no experience in gay sex, step by step, until he learned to suck cock, get sucked and to both top and bottom with a fiery passion when in the throes of sexual stimulation, that was belied by his otherwise placid demeanor. The pre-sex interviews with regulars like Tyler, Dustin, CJ, Mike Robbins, Diesal, Tank Shane, and Logan among scores of others, also gave us more of an insight into what was going on in the guy's heads as the weeks and months passed from their first visit to the futon, as they progressed with time.

And then there are the guys themselves. All of the names I mentioned previously in this post, looked to me to be "believably straight", (a term first coined here by Abush11, and adopted by me). And not only were they straight appearing, but they were also very good looking to my taste, as being young, smooth, toned, like a college frat boy, or a neighborhood kid hanging out at the mall, or on the playgrounds shooting hoops with their shirts off, or smoking cigarettes or drinking beer. There are some models in recent years who give me this vibe, such as Jimmy, Rocco, Adam, Paul, Ayden and Ronan Kennedy, but the vast majority do not for me.

I was not as concise as I'd hoped to be, but I hope that I made some kind of a point that you can relate to Damian, and I thank you for asking the question, and would love to read comments of other forumites as to their thoughts on this most interesting, to me subject.

Hey, DChristopher ~

I am mostly in agreement with MikeYank in his analysis of the "Golden Age" of BSB1. But, while I enjoy the prospect of genuinely straight guys trying things out (I think it can be really fun and sexy!): I am not as committed to it, as Mike is.

I'm definitely a MODEL-person, rather than a "site-person". I've got a handful of models who really WORK for me, and I will follow them ANYWHERE they go. ("Mary had a little lamb, and etc." ;-) I do appreciate good scenes and production values, though, and Broke Straight Boys and College Dudes have been pretty good at providing those, over the years. But just get me a super-cute guy, who is a great performer. . . and I'm yours for good. (It's all about the talent, as far as I'm concerned.)

I care much less about the "straight believability" than MikeYank does - though I think it's fun when it happens - or the measured progression of models from stage to stage. (Frankly, I never completely believe in that progression, even when it IS INDICATED - call me a cynic.) But I think the things that made BSB1 a really golden time are much down to David, and his skills:

*First, and most important, from my point of view: David has got to have been one of the greatest model-recruiters in gay erotic video history. One MUST give him credit, for that. Maybe he just got lucky - BUT - he has an incredible eye for beauty. He hauled in amazing models like Jason Matthews and Danny (my top two models of all time, from ANY studio, ANYWHERE in the world) - not to mention perennial favourites (and total hotties) like Tank Shane, Cousins Anthony and Mike, Diesal, Austin, Logan, and your favourite, CJ!!! That is a pretty stellar recruiting record. . . n'est-ce-pas???

*Second, I sort of agree with Mike about David's interviewing style, as being akin to the bumbling, fumbling, Lieutenant Columbo. Through nostalgic rose-coloured glasses, a lot of people will forget, now, that, back in the day, there were PLENTY of complaints about David's interviewing style. A lot of people said, "Oh, it's so annoying - I just wish that guy would get OUT of the WAY!" But there was a certain CHARM, to them.

*Unlike Mike (if I am not characterizing his views unfairly) I was never into all the discussions about, "How broke are you?" Or, "Why do you need the money?" Or, "What does your girlfriend think about the fact you're doing this?" I never believed in any of that stuff anyway, and, to me. . . it just cut into the NAKED TIME - which is what I am really here for. . . (At least, as far as the videos are concerned. On a gentler level, I love chatting with the models on the boards and getting to know them a little, but that's a different story.)

*HOWEVER, DC, I will say that I DID like David's interview-style for THIS REASON. Not only did he show, in his interviews, a real love and appreciation for the models (Johnny does, too!): he also had a real, wry, relatable, and very keen sense of humour, too. Often he made the MODELS laugh, and that made us laugh, too.

*AND, with no disrespect either to David, or to any of the forum members - - - I recently saw MikeYank on video, and he's a handsome guy! - - - I am NOT a handsome guy. And David was (the few times we got to see him on cam - more on College Boy Physicals) a kind of very ordinary-looking, not-so-glamorous, middle-aged guy. (But with loads of wit and charm, to spare!) I think, for those of us members who are ordinary-looking, middle-aged members, like I am (I am never gonna have Mike's glorious smile, nor Louis' gorgeous, slender torso!): David was kind of an INSPIRATION. Because we could kind of imagine ourselves being there, and coaching, and enjoying things, as David did.

*Last, of course, in the old days we did have super forum participation from models like Jason and Cousin Mikey - and it is great to see Mikey back! And that was exciting. But, Broke Straight Boys has featured that in its newer incarnations, also.

***************************************************************************

In the end, DC, I would say. . . You know there is this saying, in real estate, it's "location, location, location." I think, in gay erotica, it's "models, models, models". You have to film them well, and come up with scenarios that will keep people interested, but, I think, if you find the right talent - THE MEMBERS WILL COME. (In all senses of the word ;-)

If you can find the models who are:
*The cutest and sexiest;
*The best performers in bed; and,
*Who have a smidgen of "relatability" and charm (in their performances, and on the forum):

I think you (and Mark) will laugh all the way to the bank.

Great post mike
To much polish. Though different all the scenes look the same. No intrigue. No mystery. The boy's just don't look Broke.
Baggie shorts and stretched out under ware were a turn on.LOL.Don't get me wrong the boy's of today are near all
beautiful with good haircuts and nice underware. But I liked when they looked like there buddy cut there hair and they weren't so flawless.
Or they came off the street and really needed the money.Tats are expensive. But again I would like a
little more surprise. Now when you click on the coming attractions you know for sure what is going to happen.
But can't bitch. Film is clear. Better sound like all the other top rated porn sites. But we got Paul and Brandon and even Ian.
And no other site has a great Forum like ours. Where you can make silly posts like mine.

Ambi. No one cares about what the forum members look like or how old they are. We are just forum members who type their little ditties in here and so be it. I love and loved David Adamson to bits and I feel you were getting rather personal when you attacked his figure, why didn't you just come out with it and say he was fat !! Again that does not matter to me because David was not a model but a director/interviewer/producer and "mother" His interviewing technique was second to none and, as you stated, very witty, charming and inspirational, plus he got to jerk off some of the guys on his other site lol.

With my first sentence in mind, maybe it is not such a good idea for a recorded forum meet after all. Especially if people are going to gloat over ones looks and appearances. I'm rather pissed off for once at the previous post.. Sorry

Totally agree Johnny. The forumites are great and our hot porn appreciation community keeps me here. I miss the old days of baggy shorted possibly truly broke guys like Tyler but hey, everything has to evolve. Would love a reunion tho :) x

CJ was an asshole Mike, especially towards the end of this Broke Straight Boys career. All he did was bottom but in the end he showed very little interest and most of the forum realised this. There were many better models on the site at that time than CJ.

Hey, Jon ~

Gosh, I am very sorry you took my post, in the way that you did! I appreciate all that David has done for us, and attempted to say so (fulsomely) in that last post, which caused you angst.

BY NO MEANS was I attacking David, his looks, or his figure. I think he's a very lovable person, and a nice- and handsome-looking fellow, as well! All I was suggesting is that he is a guy who, because he is not of the age of the models he was presenting, and is a little older and more distinguished in appearance, is someone regular guys (and somewhat older members) could relate to, as appreciating and relating to the models.

Jon, I think you have misconstrued my meaning and intention quite frightfully. To the extent that this was due to the lack of finesse or skill in my prose style, I apologize. It grieves me to no end that this tribute to David, given out of love and appreciation, should cause you any hurt, my friend.

"A". :(

Jon, as hardcore fans of the site, you and I know all of the "warts" that appeared on the long term models, and we can both recall negative forum reactions toward many of the iconic guys toward the end of their Broke Straight Boys careers, as familiarity often breeds contempt. I recall lot's of negativity towards Tyler, Dustin, MikeR and CJ as they aged a bit, and their bodies changed, and some became "divas" in attitude and in what they would and wouldn't do, but as Damian Christopher told us that he was briefly a member of Broke Straight Boys during David's era, and he had a crush on CJ, I included him in my list of classic models.

CJ did twenty-five Broke Straight Boys scenes, and his scene partners included Tyler, Dustin, Logan, Shane, and Austin, so he is indeed from the "golden age" of Broke Straight Boys, and he was a cutie early in his career, the young man who David dubbed as "mumbles" because of his speaking manner. But it was all in good fun, and over-all I consider him a fine representative of that age, dispite his getting "sloppy" at the end of his time on the futon.

And in my grading system..Ha Ha ..CJ gets a 5. He had a Great Ass. To use a phrase of Beth again..Yum Yum...
I didn't see him get sloppy.Think I will keep it that way.:booty:

Ambi, I understood exactly what you were saying about David, and you clearly meant him no disrespect. I always loved the "every man" aspect of David, and felt that he represented "us" the members of the site, in being somewhat older, and perhaps other's of us were also not physically fit, but he was there for us, coaxing the most possible out of his troupe of young ragamuffins to perform to give us vicarious pleasure. I can recall two scenes where we saw David's hand, (this was way before the initial career of Johnny Robins on Broke Straight Boys, with his hand issue). But with both Logan and Alden, (of Robert and Alden fame), two boys who are among my all time heart throbs here, and David, "reached out and touched" their young manhoods. Many forumites were disgusted and thought it was gross to see his hand on the boy's cocks, but I responded very favorably to those scenes, as David was doing exactly what I would have wanted to do, had I been in his situation.

205-small-9.jpg

I could wax poetic for days about David's attributes, but his being a less than perfect looking man himself, without a great speaking voice or vocabulary all helped to make him in my mind the perfect every man to represent us, and to make me believe that I was witnessing reality and not a slick porn studio production.

I fully concur with Mike comments. You look at today's vids and I can tell you what we will see:
1. Chat
2. Undress
3. Kissing
4. Sucking
5. Fucking

Almost like the same old same old. The intrigue for David's time was the slow bribing to get models to do something more and their reactions to those suggestions. WE never knew (and sometimes David did not know) what the final outcome would be if it would even happen. The other key factor in David's filming was surprise and spontaneity. Go back and view such vids as Ricky and William, Eric and Ross, Shane Tank and Gino, or episode #1 Alex and Chris. David himself was surprised hell, imagine how we all felt. In one example (Tank and Gino) David stated, I don't smoke but I could use one now (or something like that). You know it is good when the Director is shocked at what just happened. You know it was not planned or scripted. The conning of a "straight" guy doing something "Gay" was the catch. We really don't see that today. It appears everything is scripted, almost to the point of the "i's" dotted and "t's" crossed. Mind you, this is not meat as a criticism, but the difference between the "Golden Age" and today. You still produce some damn excellent shows. Just not as surprising as before. I think some of us might like to see more of that. Not ever scene, but perhaps when new comers are introduced and learning the robes. I hope this helps you out

I have great memories of David. I have visited him on several occasions. He is truly a warm, funny and generous person to be around. He truly has a heart of gold. As I mentioned in a previous post, I am looking forward to meeting with him and Eddie next month when I'm back in Florida.

You and Johnnie are getting closer to the "ORIGINAL". I appreciate all you do to hear us out to make Broke Straight Boys the one and only place to go.

Live Long and Prosper,

Vicekid
