America in shut down

The Daily Currant, thank God, is satire. That doesn't take away from the ridiculousness of what the Lieutenant Governor of Texas is asking for.

Not his brothers keeper

Thank you for pointing out that the Daily Currant is a joke, Advocate88. Every dark cloud ought to have a silver lining. : -)

This fight is over. Nevertheless 144 Republicans voted against to reopen government and to raise the debt ceiling. The hatred is not over, most likely this battle will continue. The battle in the Republican party, where the Tea party tries to take control. These days Republicans get attacked by ads from fellow Republicans!

Here is a column in my local paper from an editorialist who is known to strike down his targets with much humor, witticism, mockery and no pretense of maintaining an impartial journalistic perspective. :) Not that he is a satirist who doesn't speak the truth though. He makes reference to "The Villages" that many non Floridians would be unfamiliar with. The Villages is the name of an upscale retirement community in central Florida that is a haven and bastion of sorts for the most conservative of Republicans anywhere in the state. Many of the residents are multi-millionaires who donate heavily to Republican campaigns. Any Republican candidate for the White House makes at least one obligatory stop there to drum up cash and bask in the love and adoration. :)

From today's paper:

Grasp of the Obvious Eludes Tea Partiers

Dear Tampa,

Make some phone calls and see if England takes you guys back...

It boggles the mind at how low of an I.Q. these politicians have taken us down the rabbit hole. When you have Republicans out there blaming Obama for shutting down the government and closing parks and memorials...Excuse me?!...it just takes on a surreal Alice in Wonderland quality. Which would almost be comical and amusing if the stakes weren't so high and deadly serious. I guess they go by the adage that if you tell a lie enough times that it becomes accepted as truth. We want to remain the leading superpower and wish to be taken seriously on the world stage. Then our politicians act like uneducated buffoons and jacka**es. More than once I've had to ask myself why people who are supposedly educated, with prestigious degrees from some of the nation's most highly regarded universities...will stoop to talking and acting like little spoiled, bratty, overindulged little tots on an elementary school playground.

These characters lately with their little temper tantrums and cry-baby hissy fits deserve nothing but our contempt. Certainly not our respect. They have done the country a great disservice. Yet they will claim it was done out of patriotism. Better to wrap it in soaring rhetoric and propaganda than admit to doing it out of their own self-interest and self-promotion among a segment of the population that's just ignorant enough to believe all their lies. And then hopefully re-elect them for their great sacrifice and service to our country. But don't get me started on what I really think about them. :)

Yep. lol The linens are soiled. And nobody wants to do the dirty work to get required to get the mess cleaned up.

I personally think Obama has done a good job, considering the state the world is in at the moment and over the last 5 or so years. At the end of the day these right wingers don't like the idea of a black President in one term of office let alone two. There again I guess the Republicans have all got good health insurance which normal people cannot afford and this is the real issue here. The don't want to see normal hard working Americans having a god given right as free medical care.

You're getting the hang of being an American citizen Jon. You can see through all the B.S. lol

Guys, there is no "God Given" right to heath care. It is like any other service that has to payed for. We are talking about socialism here - a government take over of medical services in the US. Many countries have that; we seem not to want that. Many people have coverage and many people have none. It is a problem. Covering the people that can't pay is going to cost us that can pay more. My question for years has been not how we can pay for all of this, but why all of this costs so much.

Oh Tim I would like to say that as a world leader that there is a god given right to healthcare in the US, the question is, is that it is not free. I'm sure a lot of people in the US will be saying that you cannot afford to implement a National Health Service (especially with a 13 Billion dollar deficit on your books), although I guess it would, like most things, be State run. I am not sure how the Obama administration has this planned but if this is not handled in this term it will never be and there will always be people dying due to lack of care they cannot afford.

I can only compare what the UK has and the Health service is paid by taxes paid by all uk citizens, and that means that everyone is entitled to free health care. Sure there is also private medical insurance which a lot of big businesses give to their employees as benefits and this gets you quicker service than the NHS. Saying that the waiting lists are monitored by the Govt and if any PCT (Primary Care Trust - regional) falls behind the recommended waiting time, then they are punished. Our NHS service is not perfect however, it is the biggest single employer in the UK and anyone can walk into their Walk in Centres and get treatment.

If criminals are entitled to a lawyer, why would a hard working citizen not be able to visit a doctor?

The government does not take over of any medical services, people close a deal with a private insurance company.

Why do Americans pay the most for their healthcare? Till now there was hardly any competition! The American health care system dominates the nation’s economy and puts demands on taxpayers to a degree unequalled anywhere else on earth...
