Who calls the shots?

If the shoe fits!

I've been reading the comments to this thread and just so my point is not lost I will ad; many of the comments (to this thread) have come from forum participants who do "bring their "manners" to the table. This forum is where members are to express their likes and dislikes as well as suggestions! When I see comments from the "site" owner, who feels the need to step in because (in the case of) Kaden Alexander being spoken about in such a way, it must have made Him uncomfortable to read it. Another model was described as "Chubakka" from a si fi movie, Tristan was insulted upon his introduction to the scene......I mean, come on people! Not to mention, new Forum members, who might want to engage in the discussions. If I were new, after reading some of these comments, I would feel very reluctant (and have) to participate. Freedom of speech is not compromised by the use of common courtesy in my opinion! This is obviously not directed to everyone, but...IF THE SHOE FITS, wear the S.O.B!!!!!:thankyou:

Well put BET!!!

I believe it was the Sam & CJ scene that Clay was thinking of. I found both guys to be hot and sexy wearing their jeans and shirts, but the voting folks didn't think too highly of it. It actually bothers me that Clay and Mark now use the viewer ratings and the forum comments to determine what kind of scenes to present. I always thought that they had a much more scientific method of figuring out what the overall audience thinks, including those who never post and never vote.

Oh they do, they look at the views more than anything. But still, theres only so much bitching one person can take.

shifting quickly to the issue of episodes being shown out of order. in my fantasy, when a guy says this is my first time doing oral/anal, he has not done more sexual acts before on this site. when a guy has bottomed twice in earlier episodes is heard to say in an episode that this is his first time with a guy, the fantasy is spoiled. the progression through first-times is part of the fantasy. Broke Straight Boys having sex with each other on camera is not like sex between two guys having sex after a party. seeing some of that unfold is order on camera adds to the reality aspect of Broke Straight Boys
there is another smaller site that lets the members see their scenes in viewing order. you can see the order they released, rated, and viewed. way cool feature.
of course, clay is the man with the plan. that's is why he is the producer. he knows that an anal episode will generally get higher ratings than an oral or a jerkoff will get. supply, budget, and schedule all make for an exciting job.

We use many different stats to find out which scenes and models are popular. It is a combination of many things and we are working on a more advanced statistics system. Keep in mind only a very small portion of members post on the forum but we still take those comments in as well. We also found that when we interview the guys BSB1 style wasn't that popular. Members prefer the guys just have gay sex and didn't like the banter back and forth of what they would do and for how much. Ian described things very well as far as the process in the studio. :)

Thank you for responding! Will you tell Clay I love him (and his voice)?

Thank you Mark for responding as this is your site, and you have the final say as to how things are. I'm glad that you do take all audiences into account when making decisions on who stays and who goes and what style of scene to present.

I am disappointed to learn that the BSB1 style wasn't that popular, as that style is what made me a loyal fan and customer of your site for these last five years. I would hope that you might allow Clay to do some of the interview style scenes, particularly with the newbies. Because without that feeling of a "personal connection" to the guys, with the "cold open" scenes that always begin and close with a kiss could be any other gay website out there. Please continue to do some scenes in the original style.

Thanks for listening and I do understand that you are a very busy man, but when you can I'd love to see you check in here with us on the forum a bit more often. Thanks.

Thanks for responding Mark. :) I admit that I am happy they stopped with the banter over how much money each model would make in the scene. It wasn't a favorite part of Broke Straight Boys-1 for me. Near the beginning of the site it did have a certain appeal for a while. But after a couple years the negotiating over the salary for a scene started to feel tedious and time-wasting. Broke Straight Boys-2 has been much much better on that count. :)

You're welcome. I like the older style too and we will do some tests to try it again. Thanks for your comments and for being a member. :)

Thanks Tampa for your input and for being a valued member of the site. :)

I agree with what Mike said regarding the BSB1 interviews but then again I also agree with Tampa when he said the money discussion had gotten kinda tedious. We could compromise of course and have the interview but without discussing money.

I also agree that the old way of interviewing was way more realistic to the premise of the site. I personally like to hear honestly what the models think of the scene and i still would like to see what happens after the scenes for a couple mins. I'm not a fan of seeing the cumshots then a kiss then a black screen.

And thank you Mark for listening, and as you also like the older style, and you are the boss, I really appreciate your trying to incorporate the reality style back into Broke Straight Boys

As I've often said, even if the models are really straight in their real lives, if they are such good actors to portray themselves as experienced gay lovers on camera, then it doesn't have the feel of a straight boy having gay sex.

I appreciate your interest in my comments and hope that some kind of compromise might reached between David's old "chatty" style, and the new cold openings that can be found on every other gay web site on the net.

Exactly. Those are my favorite intros. When the models talk about their hobbies, their girlfriends, their families, car troubles, life at school, etc...it just helps the viewers to connect with and become emotionally invested in them as real people. :)

But then Mark knows that already because he's counting on that formula to catapult the Broke Straight Boys TV show to great commercial success. LOL

I agree that I have enjoyed some of the experiments with a short discussion after the scene ends. Though I'm not suggesting it be done for every scene. So much of the banter in scenes depends on the personalities of the models, as to whether they have anything insightful or entertaining to say. Some models are so shy. There are others who might not be shy in the traditional sense but just prefer to be remain reticent, maintain their privacy, and say as little as possible. We know there have been a few times when it's been uncomfortable to watch some models answer questions because the models themselves seem so uncomfortable with it. So I don't want to torture the poor guys. lol

With brand new models it's hard for anyone to tell beforehand how well they'll respond to questions or an invitation to briefly chat before or after a scene. With a few scenes under their belts I think Clay has a fairly good idea of which models will feel comfortable talking and answering questions...and which ones will be uncomfortable and give one or two word answers.

To give a very positive example here, I remember a new straight model who came along with his first solo. Having seen the thumbnail picture beforehand in the upcoming updates, and then a bigger picture just before watching the scene...I thought he was handsome enough guy. But I just wasn't sure if he would seal with deal with me as far as becoming a fan of his. Then Clay interviewed him and I found out quickly that he had real social skills and the gift of gab. And he didn't just talk for the sake of talking to fill up the time. He actually had intelligent, interesting and entertaining things to say.

I was pensive right along with him when he discussed more serious things. I was grinning ear-to-ear and chuckling to myself in his more humorous moments when he really showed his personality. By the end of the intro, I wouldn't have cared if he was hung like a flea. lol I was already smitten with him before he took off the first article of clothing.

Of course he wasn't hung like a flea. lol He's actually one of the bigger models of the site right now, both in length and especially girth. By the end of his scene I was totally taken with him and saw him as very handsome...and attractive on so many different levels beyond just the physical. I knew that if he could successfully have sex with other guys, that he would do very well and go far on the site if he chose to.

Of course the model I'm speaking of, who I'm such a big fan of, is......Brandon Beal. lol For anyone interested who hasn't seen it, it's one solo scene that I think is definitely worth a look.

I've enjoyed many of the aspects of the older Broke Straight Boys scenes, the models, the interviews and even the banter. David was gifted in the art of seemingly convincing the guys to "step out of their comfort zone" with the enticement of money. This whole thing worked for me up to a point. In some ways, it was like the guys were "street hustlers." When I start seeing the models as people, who needed to make money to buy things, pay bills etc...I found it harder to see them being treated like; "street hustlers." There have been a lot of different concepts that I am aware of, that have been tried. Some I enjoyed and some, not so much. A mixture is okay though as, same ole same gets boring to me.

I look at this as a business (from Mark's perspective) that is trying to grow! In order for that to happen, me, the audience may have to endure some changes that may "disrupt" my viewing pleasure for a minute. In the end, the bigger picture will be a great benefit to me, as the audience, as well as the business. (BSB TV) is a prime example of the growth! In the meantime, I will continue to enjoy the attractive young men that have and will participate in the scenes.

First and foremost, Mark I do appreciate and enjoy when you "participate" in some of the Forum discussions!

I know that it's probably been tried, and Ian did mention in his comment; Having the models take the reigns so to speak and create a scene. Now, realistically I understand that it would be difficult for a guy who is not attracted to guys, to create a scene as many of us "gay" viewers would, however, if the right models (based on prior scene experience) or given talent, could act out "say their own fantasy" with one another, that could be interesting to watch. Again, it would have to be models who would feel comfortable doing so!
