Who calls the shots?

Of course I agree with you Jon, as a fellow "David lover" who appreciates how much he was able to draw out of the models, in his sometimes "goofy" way. I've often thought in recent times that Clay does not have the "gift of gab", but Sha would be great to talk to the guys before the scenes.

Now that's a good idea - and lets get to the crux question by asking the guy's sexuality - as David did.. Then it is on record what sexuality the guy is so there would need for us to discuss it - but we would lol

One thing that always intrigues me about him is that he is straight, happily married and has two kids. With that in mind, watching him have sex with other dudes just sends my heart all aflutter. lol :P

Two of my favorite scenes of Colin's are the one with him and Kodi. ~

http://members.brokestraightboys.com/play/NzUx/kodi-&-colin

Watching him top and then get topped by a twink like Kodi just seemed so naughty to me. Of course I loved it. lol

The other favorite of mine is him and Connor. ~ http://members.brokestraightboys.com/play/Njc3/conner-&-colin

Connor was able to help me see redheads in a whole new light. As in, now I really like them. lol They both really had some chemistry and passion in this scene!

I too enjoyed both of those scenes as well. I cannot say that I find Colin "classically handsome", but he's a nice looking guy. I did prefer his scenes where he gained a little weight. Interestingly enough, his body (at that weight) is quite similar to my buddy/bedfellow (who is also straight). I do enjoy some scene analysis from time to time!. I agree with a few comments shared with some members that enjoy the idea; that some (not all) of the models can: admit to certain pleasures gained in a scene, or appear to be enjoying the pleasure (of the sex) while still maintaining their primary attraction to women. To me, Colin is but one of those people.

Here's a Colin story that you and others might find intriguing Betu. It's from an older thread that is still in here. Here's the link to the whole thread if anyone's interested. It's a long thread and a real hoot to read. haha

How's that for a story?? LOL

Here's the Anthony scene which Colin spoke of in his story. http://members.brokestraightboys.com/play/Njcy/colin-&-anthony

Now that's what I am talking about! Thanks for sharing ALL OF THAT Tampa! (Of course, the little that I do feel I know about you) makes it a whole lot easier to understand your Strong Support of this particular model, as well as some of your other favorites!

I enjoy "the digging" and finding of things like this. The whole intrigue and discovery of what's behind the guys! I suppose, that's why I like to take cues and information, either from the models, or as directed by the members as opposed to getting all of the information up front (if that makes sense) I like the "research" aspect of it. This is definitely good stuff! Again, thank you!

Okay, so I have been asked by my good friend, Mike, to kinda straighten everything up with this thread and what actually goes on with the scenes. I was going to talk about it on my blog, but I felt that if I had it all typed out my mind would wander as much as it does when I'm just talking, and I'll be able to get everything to sound the way I want it to.

After reading all of the comments and the original question, I am ready to assist you all with further understanding of who decides what, why they decided it, and what you members like/dislike.

As to who calls the shots, that's Clay. He usually already has something in mind way before we ever walk into the studio. But he takes his time to think it over before finalizing all of it. Me being the guy who wants to always be informed, I always ask Clay what he has in store for us even before we start the photo shoot. The sequence of how the scenes are shot are as some of you thought. We first do a "run through" which is the photo shoot of all of the positions we will execute in the scene, and then after that, the models get dressed, and take it from the top, but this time with the video camera. The models just do what they are told, sometimes theres some apprehension, but for the most part we just go with it.

The models are always interested to see how they did in the eyes of the viewers because regardless of if its gay porn or straight porn, they preformed for an audience. And audience that is EXTREMELY picky. Now I don't mean to offend any of you members, but thats exactly why we rarely try new things with the scenes. Some members wont like this, some members will bitch at that... Clay has found a routine that a majority of the members approve, and he has stuck with it. There was one scene that I did where I approached Clay about possibly doing it partially clothed. I've always liked having sex that can't wait for the clothes to come off, so I ran it past Clay to see if it would work. He was apprehensive at first, Because apparently there was a scene he did a while back with partial clothing and it go bad reviews, but he put that aside and said we could try it since he hadn't done a scene like that in a while. That scene was with Tristan and I.

There was also talk of asking the models in the scenes if they enjoyed it, what their sexuality was, and what other models they would like to do a scene with. While all great ideas, the producers and models know that that would never work. What if a model said he was gay, or that he liked the scene. Saying who they would want to do a scene with in the future takes away from the "gay for pay" experience you guys joined for. The two main comments we get are, "there was no passion," and my personal favorite, "if he's straight then I'm the pope." Even John made a comment where he would like the models to go on record as to what their sexuality is so the members wouldn't have to talk about it... but they would. So what would be the point? We have to walk a fine line with how we perceive the website because theres always going to be someone who complains because its not exactly how they like it. The fact is, no two people are alike, so it is very difficult to please everyone all the time.

As for the oder that the scenes are shot, what does it matter? Almost none of my scenes have gone in order of when I shot them and I have quite a few that haven't been released yet. I'm sorry, I just had to say that because I read somewhere that a member didn't like that they didn't go in order. And I have a hard time understanding how that would affect anything that we do.

As members you all have to collectively decide what you want, because two straight guys out in the real world, would never ever have sex with each other. So this is already a way out there fantasy. Mechanical porn with no connection between the models makes for a boring scene to watch.

Well, first off, thanks for writing a novel length response about this; it was quite interesting. Truthfully, I was hardly expecting to get a response from a model about this. To have you join the conversation is a nice surprise.

One of the reasons I asked the question, as I said up top, is because it's hard to know what kind of feedback to give models without knowing how much you have to do with it. Otherwise, as you and I seem to agree, the feedback sucks because it turns into a clusterfuck, with half of the members thinking that the models weren't "believably straight" (a term I've never really understood) and half of them thinking there was no passion, and thus the scene was boring. I can imagine how that would be frustrating.

So knowing that it was your idea for you and Tristan to leave some clothes on is good information for me to have. I thought that scene was an unqualified success, and I'm glad you made that suggestion; I hope other models do the same thing and Clay, since he's the one who makes the calls, remains open to them. If it's bad feedback in the past that makes Broke Straight Boys reluctant to go outside the box, maybe those of us who like it need to speak up more when we do.

As far as "I" am concerned, you answered many (if not all) of the questions I had about "what goes into the making of a scene" for the most part. I do respect and appreciate you for that! I (personally) don't NEED to know everything, it would distract me from "investigating things" that I am curious about! Where would the fun be in that? Thanks again IAN. Keep it real, and interesting!

Thank you Ian for checking out this thread as I requested and for your great response. I see that things do go pretty much the way I figured. And I also appreciate you calling me your "good friend". I am honored.

Thank you for answering all these questions Ian. You really put a lot of time and thought into your response when you were under no obligation whatsoever to do that for us. Thank you! xo:001_smile:

Clay really has a thankless job in the sense that he will never please everybody all of the time. Unfortunately we will never collectively be able to agree on anything in here with so many different backgrounds and sexual tastes. The closest we'll have is what Clay tries to do. As in, try the formulas that seem to please the most people and get the least amount of negative feedback.

I think your suggestion for the scene with Tristan was a good one. I do recall one much older scene with Jimmy and another model who stayed clothed throughout the scene. It got horrible ratings. But that scene was panned for much more than just the clothing issue. If that's the scene Clay was thinking of, then I'm glad he tried was willing to try it again in your scene. It worked out much better. With a rating of 4.5, obviously many people liked it. :)

You are quite right though that this is a very picky audience. If a new model does really well...then some will say that he is obviously gay. (Even if he's not) If a new model does really badly (a very subjective decision)...then many will ask for him not to be used again in future scenes. As you've said yourself, if the models purposely look amateurish so as to fit the mold of a straight amateur newbie...then some will complain about the lack of passion or chemistry. If there's "too much" passion or chemistry then that can also bring negative feedback. There are many here who don't want Broke Straight Boys scenes to look just like the scenes on College Dudes. Yet there are also members who couldn't care less about the straight aspect of the models here on Broke Straight Boys and who just want to see well done porn.

As I say, Clay and the models are always walking a tightrope in always trying to please as many people as possible. It was very helpful to your fans and other members eager to become your fans when you joined the forum and explained why you looked so professional right out of the gate. (One of the reasons why you've been nominated for Best New Model of the Year perhaps? haha) That you hated being asked to pretend like you didn't have enough talent or acting ability to make it look like you were enjoying your scenes. That you prefer to give it your all in your scenes because anything else would lead people to believe that you didn't have enough talent or the "right stuff" to make it in the business. haha That really did help people to see you very positively in a whole new light. :) That combined with the fact that you were first trained to work on College Dudes, allowed many people to step away from the kneejerk questioning as to your sexual orientation.

But thank you again Ian for your response here. :001_smile:

Or (in my opinion) at the very least, those who Didn't like a scene, could try to be more objective with their "critiques" as opposed to crude and unpleasant with their "criticism". ...Just Sayin'...

I believe it was the Sam & CJ scene that Clay was thinking of. I found both guys to be hot and sexy wearing their jeans and shirts, but the voting folks didn't think too highly of it. It actually bothers me that Clay and Mark now use the viewer ratings and the forum comments to determine what kind of scenes to present. I always thought that they had a much more scientific method of figuring out what the overall audience thinks, including those who never post and never vote.

I would hope that Clay would not be so sensitive reacting to audience comments to decide what to do or how to film a scene. The audience is so varied in tastes, that the loudest on the forum should not dictate site policy, as they may not reflect what the majority wants.

As long as Clay is willing to diverse from the norm - like the pool scene, then it's ok with me. BSB1 and David are now dead in the water and although it is good to revisit, they are no more, so we have to look onwards and upwards.

While I don't disagree with this, I've read comments that were so disrespectful, not only to the models, the site, but also to fans (which would include forum members) just because they had a different point of view too. I enjoy hearing people's varying views and hearing about what turns them on in a scene as well as what they didn't like! I just don't think it's necessary to get "uncivilized" about it all! After all, you have said it yourself, it's porn! That's all!

Of course you are correct, Betu. There is no reason to be rude or disrespectful while offering our opinions, whether they are pro or con regarding a model or a scene. And indeed the topic of discussion is only porn. :001_smile:

"Oh Ian thanks for calling me your friend" Suck ass!!! lol Whether I like a model or not determines if I watch their scene or not. If I'm not fond of a particuliar model I won't comment on their scene, unless the scene includes one of my favs. The actual way a scene goes doesn't really bother me as much as the taste in men of whoever is chosing who becomes a model on this site. And I mean this with no disrespect!! I like a lot of past models who probably couldn't get work in this industry anywhere else, but lets be honest some of the models that were chosen to be on film this year haven't been that good. And I don't mean ugly or out of shape, just not good on camera but they make several return visits.

I agree with you on these points Peter. I hope the coming year will bring good looking models more consistently. I'm sure it's hard work finding good talent and good looks all in the same package, week after week. Some models get hired who should not have been, because they just don't have the body for it. Then unfortunately the viewers are put in the unenviable position of being the bad guys who through ratings and reviews kill some poor guy's dreams of internet porn stardom. But then to stand up for the site here, sometimes some good looking guys have been hired but their performances onscreen just didn't inspire a wide following. The recruiters have no idea how well the new model will come off on camera until that moment of truth.

Of course beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Some models who some of us think are not that attractive, others love and can't get enough of. So it's not a matter of who's right and who's wrong. Just a matter of individual taste. Then again it comes back to hoping the site can find models who please the most amount of people, most of the time. I'm sure it's not easy on a daily and weekly basis.

From my own experience in management in the workplace I was in a job where I had to hire fairly frequently. At some points when I was hiring I found that I had a decent pool of applicants to choose from. Sometimes I had to hire someone right away and was forced to pick from less than ideal choices for the job who were applying at that time. As with many things in life, there is an ebb and flow to applications and applicants in the business world. Sometimes I had to hire someone I was pretty sure wouldn't last, just in the hopes that they could get me through until someone more suitable came along. That's real world.

So true Tampa. I too over the years have hired the not so worthy candidate, but my game was off a few times and some of them surprised me. The job I had prior to my current one, I hired an employees friend and new in the interview that he wasn't going to last. I promoted him before I left and 14 yrs later he's still their. The one model who comes to mind that fits this criteria is Anthony (not cousin). He isn't ruggedly handsome or the buff body, but he turned out to be one of the best "performers" on Broke Straight Boys

"Oh Ian thanks for calling me your friend" Suck ass!!! lol
I'm easy, Peter.

It is cool to be able to develop a one on one kind of friendship with the models through their postings referring to us as individuals, their behind the scenes video comments about us, or for those who've been lucky enough to actually meet some of the guys and have personal conversations with them at the pride events.

I am a generally speaking big fan of Broke Straight Boys and do get "star struck" when I have a close encounter with a real Broke Straight Boys from the site. I still keep my Broke Straight Boys towel personally autographed for me by Blake, Jason and Denver. I guess in some ways, I'm like a teenaged girl.
