Hi Forum Mavens!

Ive turned on the reputation system. I think you will enjoy this feature! What does this mean?

You can click the icon near the name (justice icon) and express a like/dislike (approve/disprove) to any individual thread post. Oh, the mighty powers you forum mavens now have!

What this does is affect the reputation of the author. So, a negative vote sheds poorly on the author's reputation. A positive vote raises the author's reputation.

I did this in response to a desire by the members to express themselves to a post. For me it was to express what I consider 'over the top' members helping other members with technical issues. Way cool (thank you). And to other long time members requesting a "like" feature. While not a facebooky like, it does allow one to express approval/disapproval.

As reputation grows, the status message is raised. Ill later publish the chart for those that care on the levels. In the meantime, please add your +/- to posts as you deem appropriate.

Try it and tell me what you think

At first blush, I don't like this feature. If some one approves or disapproves, agrees or disagrees with a post, then he or she should post that instead of hiding behind anonymity to affect somebody's "reputation". Although having said that, worrying about one's "reputation" on the forum of a web porn site really is not all that cosmic!

Interesting comment Stowe. thanks. More than 1 has asked for a way to root/vote/affirm another post so I figured this was a way to foster that. I hope you are ok with giving this a try.

Wa-hoo!

Me likey! Thank you!!!

My question is one Stowe is concerned about. Is it anonymous? I rather fancy the idea that people know if I like or don't like what they have to say. If I don't have something to progress a conversation, I don't usually comment. That being said, I do read all the posts through each time I log in, so this is a great way for me to interact when I'm conversationally stymied!

Of course, I now have to worry about not only my own popularity, but the popularity of my friends!

Makes me a bit nervous, I'm not sure I want to know my level of approval or disapproval. But, I can understand why others might find this feature appealing.

The system stores the likes so there is not duplicates, but its not shown. This is a feature that is native to our forum system but was not turned on. I dont know that there is a way to attribute the likes. but I can check. I personally dont mind having both options, attributed comments and stealthy likes. Sometimes im too much in a hurry to write something worthwhile and just want to acknowledge value.

I approved/liked this. do you see anything?

Nope, not a thing. I approved/liked your post. Did you see anything? I tried to like your reply to Grace and It told me I had to spread the sunshine, or something like that! I should have copied the reply, but in a nutshell, it said I had to like/approve others posts before I could like/approve one of yours again. Awesome!

there are about 20 ways to gain reputation points in this system. top secret for the moment, but its all native to the forum software we are using. im still researching it.

Lets see how it goes for a few weeks. If you like it great, if you dont, great. Ill canvas you in a few weeks after we get some experience with it. sound good?

I must agree with Stowie and Grace17 - I don't like it. It's easy to click an icon and as Stowie said hide behind anonymity. We should be speaking our minds on this forum not hiding behind icons.

Looked at the feature, added a compliment for somebody... Will the member in question ever get to read my one liner?

Not sure if I will bother to use this feature in the future.

I agree with both Jon & Robert. Coming from an older generation, I don't really understand the concept behind a "like" or "reputation" button, but as Jon is a part of the younger generation and Robert is very computer savvy, I see they agree with me.

This is a forum, and as Jon says let's openly agree or disagree with a poster, and not secretly approve or disapprove of their comments. And as Robert said, at this point I have no intention of using this feature, unless I am missing the bigger picture.

Fortune cookies wisdom

It says: "MikeYank is on a distinguished road..." where it's much more likely that: MikeYank is somewhere in the bushes on his knees.

"Robert will become famous soon enough..." what a threat! Are they going to arrest me again?

Tempest in a teapot! Mountain out of a mole hill! I don't really care if the feature stays or goes. Because with the exception of the friends I have made here, I don't really care what anyone else thinks of my posts; and I know my friends will give me the benefit of their views on my posts either directly on the forum or through a pm.
