Real Sports - Athletes, Teams & Men that we follow and admire.

They barely won last night. They were trailing by ten at halftime. I’m not sure if Duke is going to even beat Michigan State today, but I would be surprised if Gonzaga wins it all, but we shall see as the tournament moves on.

They have had awesome seasons in the past and couldn't get it done, so I'm hoping with this semi-good team we could possibly win it all.

Sports brings all sorts of surprises. Look at what Nadal recently accomplished in Australia after being out much of last year.

Not sure if this has been posted on the forum before, but it sure fits in with the theme of this thread. :001_cool:

I believe it has on your other sports site.
Here on my new thread, I am trying to stay true to my original intention of posting and discussing “real” sports figures and athletes who can be identified by names and teams, rather than just anonymous good looking guys. I understand that to many it is a minute point, whereas to me it is a VERY important point. Knowing it is Brady touching Gronk’s ass is much hotter to me than just two guys in the same position. But that's just me…….

Just because you may not know the names of the players does not mean they are not athletes or players in their own rite.

Like I said, “That’s just me.” And one of the many things I love about this forum is that Mark largely gives us the freedom to create our own threads and allows us to say whatever we choose, without being libelous or abusive.

I was not trying to imply anything negative about you just expressing my own feelings. By the way need I remind you I am a huge Pats fan so love that picture.

Great game between Duke and Michigan State today. Duke was trailing by five points late and powered past Michigan State to move on to the Sweet Sixteen next Thursday in San Francisco. Coach K’s legendary career continues. Great game and a great win.

In a post game interview, Coach K discussed his team meeting where he opined that of late things have gotten too much about him and not enough about the Duke team and challenged his players from this point on to make this championship run to be about them and not him and that he was so proud by their response. Things are looking good for Duke right now!

We are in complete agreement kgmets and we will be as long as Duke keeps on dancing. Then we move into our area of disagreement on sports. lololololol

Speaking of baseball, today was the first televised Yankees spring training game from Tampa. The Yankees lost the game in the ninth but the early spring training games are not about winning and losing. But my point is it was a fun sports day for me with Yankees in the early afternoon and Duke in the late afternoon. My ideal season is always for Duke to keep playing as close as possible to Yankees opening day. But with the delay this year of MLB starting a week late, my ideal would be Duke playing Monday night April 4th in New Orleans and the Yankees playing Thursday April 9th at Yankee Stadium. But however far Duke goes this year, it has been a great ride for this Duke team and Coach K!

Only one local team from the New York City metropolitan area is still alive in the NCAA Tournament. And they are Saint Peters of Jersey City. And they became only the tenth #15 seed in tournament history to beat a #2 seed as they did to Kentucky on Thursday. Their star in that game was 22 year old Doug Edert. Reading about him today, I discovered his teammates call his mustache a 70’s porn stache. And his team nickname is Peacocks. All the more reason I will watch Doug and the Peacocks tonight as they try for their second upset as they play the #7 seed Murray State tonight.

This is Doug Edert and his 70’s porn mustache. Go Cocks. :001_tongue:

The NCAA now allows NIL (name, image, license) deals for college players, so they can earn money off their name and image while they are still collegiate athletes rather than their schools make the money. After Doug’s success in the first two rounds of the tourney getting notoriety for both his mustache and his steady play and clutch shooting, Doug now has signed a NIL deal with Buffalo Wild Wings.

Good for Doug!!!

Tonight in a late game on the East Coast as Duke plays the Texas Tech Red Riders in the Sweet Sixteen. Texas Tech had the #1 defense in the country and are 1.5 point favorites. Gonzaga plays in the early game against Arkansas where Gonzaga is a heavy favorite. the two winners will play each other on Saturday in the Elite Eight trying to make the Final Four in New Orleans next week. This is the most exciting time of the year in college basketball!!!

You are correct that the NCAA Men's National Championship Game is Monday Night April 4th. but I believe that the Yankees open on Thursday April 7th.

Right you are! Let's Go Duke! If they can play as they did in the last five minutes against Michigan State, their changes are good. The expert analyists are saying that Duke is athletically the more talented team, but Texas Tech is older and rougher. So the key may be how well Duke responds to that.

On a baseball note, a relative just gave me a biography of Casey Stengel. His name is the answer to the Yankee trivia question: "Who was the Yankee manager to win five consecutive world series from 1949-1953 and more World Series in 1956 and 1958?" He was fired after the 1960 World Series after the Yanks lost Game 7 to the Pirates. Most managers get a raise for making it to the bottom of the ninth of Game 7 of a World Series. But, in a sense, Casey was promoted as he became the first manager of the New York Mets! Another baseball trivia question is "True or False: Yogi Berra won all of his many World Series rings with the Yankees?" The answer is an emphatic NO, as he also has a 1973 World Series ring as Manager of the NEW YORK METS!
