I had the same thoughts Jon and send thoughts and prayers to any of those who may have been affected. I also sincerely hope that no one we know through the site is among those; since many of them are located in the Denver area.

I didn't think of LL and her kids being at a midnight movie showing, but I immediately thought of Mark, Chuck, and Rob Ryder, who all live there too. They have been having news breaks here all night. I hope everyone here was safe, and definitely pray for everyone that suffered from this tragedy.

Aha, LL was the only person I knew on here from there and I totally forgot about the time difference. My thoughts are with everyone who knows the victims of yet another crazy gunman.

I agree Jon, changing gun laws requires courage and serious commitment, but it can be done.

Not trying to get on a soapbox here because everyone has their cross to bear, but I lived through Martin Bryant's terrible killing spree at Port Author in Tasmania over a decade ago, although I thought my five year old niece and I were going to die, sheer terror marks your soul forever...I never thought bad stuff could happen on such a beautiful sun shiny day.

After this horrendous event Australia tightened up their gun laws to the extent where basically the average person can't access a gun. Of course, that doesn't mean guns crimes don't happen, they do and far too often, but mass murder by gun hasn't occurred since the law came into power.

My best healing thoughts go to everyone affected.

What a senseless tragedy! I'm horrified!

Aurora, Colorado is quite a bit northeast of where we are. Rob Ryder lives much further north of Denver, and Mark and Chuck are northwest. I don't believe we have to worry about our dear friends, although they certainly may have family and friends effected. I hope not. No one should have to deal with this. It's just so appalling. Absolutely heartbreaking for the victims and their families.

I am sure I am one of many that immediately thought of you and SGVBOB, not realizing others I care from Broke Straight Boys reside in Denver or the State of Colorado! This just raises the level of chaos existing in the social fabric of America today and much of it is so very preventable, if only more people would come to terms that we live in a "social entity" that is much broader than the external walls of our homes and NOT some deserted island surrounded by a vast sea.

Can't we simply agree to get along or is the USA, "the Land of the FREE", anything but FREE from senseless gun violence! ​

Come on America and get to grips with this stupid gun law that you have. I know you are a young country but FFS you're not living in a one horse town nowadays with Wyatt Erb and Doc Holliday. Here is a question for you all - If Obama agreed to scrap the gun law and make it illegal for people to own their own firearms unless registerred, would he get elected ?

Many Democratic Presidents have tried to put gun laws through, but the Republicans always keep it from getting through all the votes it takes to be made law. The two party battle, keeps anything from changing.

I'm so glad that none of our extended Broke Straight Boys family are involved. The victims and their families are all in my thoughts and prayers today.

If only it was that easy Jon. The NRA (National Rifle Association) has a whole lot of clout and influence here. The constitution guarantees people the right to bear arms. Any attempts to limit weapons in the hands of private citizens is rejected out of hand by gun lobbyists as being unconstitutional. It's a very complicated issue over here.
