Download Problems

Has anyone else been having download problems? My computer used to download so quickly that it was more like streaming video (iMac). Now it stops shortly after starting and only the "medium" download works, and then only on the individual clips. I've emailed support, but out of five messages I've sent them in the past, they never answered any.

Stripe, ditto. For the past several months, downloading has been mighty slow unlike other sites, etc. It should be fixed. I trust the streaming business discussed last week will be remedial.

This has been a problem for a while now, there are many threads dedicated tothsi very subject.
We have been told that when "they" (customer service etc.) test it, they have no problem. I have also been told by Mark that he is looking into it. I have not heard from Mark in a while to find out how is research is going. I am sure that he will let us know eventually.
I have found that it works on the second or third attempt.
By the way, I only have a problem with the Broke Straight Boys site, all of the others work fine. Guess my computer isn't in to the content on this site, lol.

Same problem, and I've been running on a new computer with Windows 7. For me, it started slowing down just a few weeks ago. I probably didn't notice it happening because this new PC is blazing fast. BTW - I'm also running on a high-speed modem, so the connection speed isn't the problem either.

I haven't noticed any problems. I am also using windows 7 and my ISP is bellsouth.net (ATT now) and their high speed seems to work well. The current scene is streaming perfectly. Crossing my fingers that it remains that way !

It's probably your internet connection speed. Even if you have broadband/high speed internet, you may not have a very fast connection. Anything less than 20 Mbps is going to take 15 minutes or so to download a 300+ MB file. And that's if the connection is running at top performance. You may find that periodically, at various times of the day, your connection will run slower depending on how many people on your circuit are also downloading. The more people are running on the same circuit, the more it slows down everyones' connections.

You can test your connection speed on many different sites. Here's one that I use sometimes to test my own connection speed:

I have checked my speed and even had my supplier check it. Speedtest.net is great. That is not the problem.
You would think that maybe it is a problem if members are speaking out about it. I just seem to get the same old reasons or should I say excuses.

Abe, sorry to question your post but I dont get where you get your calculations from. The 20Mbps broadband refers to 20000 Mbits, transfer rate is calculated in MB which are megabytes of which there are 8 bits to a byte. So if your 20Mbs broadband was working on top notch you would be getting a transfer rate of 2.5MBs, that is is 10Meg file in 4 secs, a 100Meg file in 40 secs and a 1000Meg file in 400 secs which is 6.666 minutes.

Whilst I have been working out my calculations I have downloaded a 701MB file from Broke Straight Boys with the following results:

Film Leon/Gino 25 aug 2010. Windows Media file HD version at 701mb.

The file took me just over 12 mins to download and my average transfer rate according to the box that comes up at the end was 0.95MB. .95 times 8 works out at 7,6Mbs bandwidth, which just about correct for my broadband line. If your 2.5MB line is up to speed then it will take you 280secs or 4mins 40secs to download the same 701mb file.

Wow, I am truly in awe! I have no idea what all that meant, but I'm sure someone does. I rate high on both the computer and math dumbie scale. Abush11, thanks for letting me know about the site to find out the download speed. I'm with Comcast up here in Seattle and am supposed to be getting 20 mbps (mbits?). The test, on two different sites showed I was getting around 8.0. But something did change. It's only been recently that things have slowed down on this site. But it has happened on two of the bonus sites, also. I'm planning to switch internet providers since the teaser rate is expiring. Plus, Comcast has said the wiring in my building is 20 yrs old and doesn't function as well. The choice is Qwest DSL at 20 whatever, or Clear, which just beams the data to you without lines, like a cell phone. But their highest whatever is 6 mbps. The salesman told me you don't have to deal with people using downline, so that's all you need. Bullshit or no?

We have mobile phone or cell phone operators that do the same over here. It's called mobile internet and you use a dongle attached to a USB port on your computer. Technology is not yet advanced enough to get more than 6Mbps, which incidentally is very good.

However, if Comcast say their lines are rubbish then ask for fibre. Who's lines are Qwest going to use, watch for this because although they may provide you with the internet they may go over the same physical lines as what comes through your wall.

Mark, just wanted to let you know that I just finished watching the newest update. Had no problems what so ever. Went right to the High Quality selection and the video started right away and I was able to watch it all the way through without it stopping to buffer.

I've had not a single user contact me with their details. Without this information there is no way we can figure out what the issue is for those of you experiencing slow downloads. Anyone having issues please send me the following info. My host can adjust traffic through different networks specifically for each user having issues.

- time of day you were having an issue. Please include your time zone.

Just skimmed this but Comcast speeds are 'up to' because the wy they set up their internet connections, you are on a node with a bunch of other users, (unlike DSL or Fios) and if they are all using the node, you are slowed down. In Fact recently Comcast was sued because they cancelled one client and deliberately slowed down others because they decided they were abusing the shared bandwidth. I'll never use Comcast, they are the evil enemies of Net Neutrality (though Verizon is not much better, at least I have dedicated speed)
