Congrats Vadim On Being On MTV

Wow!

That was quite good. I hardly know where to begin. Does somebody else want to start us off?

I am a big fan of Broke Straight Boys and will read or watch anything and everything that I can that mentions, discusses or promotes this website and so I recorded the program and watched it when I woke up, hwever I was not as impressed as you apparently were, Tampa.

I guess I start off prejudiced as I am no fan of the whole reality TV format, and quite frankly have watched little of it. In fact the Broke Straight Boys-TV series and this program last night is all I can remember watching of this genre of television in years. The format bothers me in that everything is contrived. It's hard for me to buy into a "real" moment between the stars of the show and their friends, wife or girlfriend when there is obviously a cameraman standing two feet in front of them, and if Vadim Black's girlfriend had no idea that he was shooting gay porn, why did she think that there was a camera crew in her house and following them around? She supposedly believed that he was a fashion model. Are we supposed to believe that MTV wanted to see the behind the scenes relationship of a guy who models suits?

When the two "straight" models spoke of their agony over having to perform sexually with men, "methinks thou protesteth too much" to coin an ancient phrase. lol I'm sure they both lead straight lifestyles but no Kinsey 0 or 1 is going to have as much sex with men as they do no matter how much money they are paid. They both top and bottom in their porn careers and it just rang untrue to me when they both complained how difficult it is for them to bottom. If they admitted that they get pleasure out of the sex they perform on camera while still living the straight life off camera, I would have bought into it more.

I also laughed to myself when Ben's gay friend asked him what he going to tell his kid's that he does for a living and he said that he would quit the business when they got old enough to understand. I guess he doesn't realize that the whole archive of his work will be preserved forever on film and on the internet, and they kids and their friends will always have acess to what "Timmy's" father does. Talk about a dumb statement.

Again I will watch anything on the subject of "gay for pay" particularly involving either a current or former Broke Straight Boys model, but I feel that the model's and the presentation could have been a lot more honest, but I guess this is what reality TV is all about, and that's why I don't generally watch it.

I get what you're saying about some of the dialog and situations being contrived. This being part of the reality tv genre it does ask the viewer to suspend logical reasoning at times. But the whole platform of reality tv nowadays is often much more about entertaining the audience rather than strictly informing them. The scene with Devon and Vadim Black for instance seemed a real stretch. To believe that right up to that moment with the cameras present that Devon had never known of Vadim Black's porn career, nor Vadim Black knowing about his best friend Devon's own foray into gay porn...is quite a stretch. If it was set up for the cameras though, we can still be sure that those real conversations did take place among two very good friends at some point or another beforehand. So if that conversation was recreated for the benefit of the watching audience, I'm fine with that.

I still feel badly for Vadim Black that he lost his family and the majority of his friends and support system when his porn career came to light. That's a very tough thing for an 18 y/o guy to go through. Heck. It would be tough for a 30, 40 or 50 y/o. One of the more worrisome things I saw was that Vadim Black takes so many erectile enhancement drugs. If that's 100% true, then certainly I hope he doesn't jeopardize his health.

They both top and bottom in their porn careers and it just rang untrue to me when they both complained how difficult it is for them to bottom. If they admitted that they get pleasure out of the sex they perform on camera while still living the straight life off camera, I would have bought into it more.

Yes, But again they have to keep up certain appearances with the people they deal with on a daily basis in their real lives. What they may or may not admit to their spouses or girlfriends in confidence behind closed doors is not the same that they want known to their friends and extended family, their boss, co-workers or even customers at work at their 9-5 jobs, or the barista who serves them coffee a few times a week. In front of a paying porn studio audience they may let down their guards a bit. But to a national tv audience they will understandably hold back on at least a few key things.

Yes. That does sound very naïve at best. However, I can see some of the logic in his thinking. That once the kids are old enough and wise enough that he really would have to explain to them why daddy is leaving them often to fly out of town for mysterious work, that he would quit the business then. You are right however in stating that kids would definitely find out about it at some point, regardless of whenever he got out of the business. They might even find out about it from strangers outside of their own family. Be it classmates at school, or other adults they meet in the course of their daily lives. There will always be some whispering behind people's backs over a secret like that. Kids aren't stupid. They'll pick up on it.

He's already made the decision to do the work. Now he has to rationalize how he can avoid the obvious social pitfalls of being in that line of work, while still bringing in the money to provide for his family. He may still be a bit clueless as to just how long internet fame and images will follow someone all their lives. But I actually think he realizes more than he lets on. I think he knows he has a tough road ahead dodging societal disapproval and protecting his family from it. I'm sure he's just hoping to be able to ride out any storms that come up later.

I am responding to Mikey's comments above - similar situation and outcome for me - watched this morning and Mikey's word "contrived" plus my own perceptional phrase "not very believable" is my response. I have watched certain shows on MTV since 1985 or 86 when they launched. They began with music videos (which always have been and are) pure fantasy imagery to promote the singers or group. So, as MTV evolved into a network that shoots shows that are supposed to reflect today's realities in various aspects of current social topics, it retains that "fantasy" style and status of what it puts out there.

I believe it was David who mentioned Kurt Wilde and the other guy who went on Tyra Banks' show many, many years ago to discuss gay-for-pay careers. That would be last night's Daniel (was that his name - I erased the show immediately after watching it and paid most attention to Vadim Black's story so might have name wrong) - like Kurt, married with kids doing "it" for his kids' benefit. Like the other guy on Tyra's show, Vadim Black has a girlfriend who "doesn't know" (but last frame said now she does and she's cool with it so they are together) And David revealed the guy ultimately came out on the gayer side of bi (and Louis has his complement of work all downloaded!).

As Mikey said, "When the two "straight" models spoke of their agony over having to perform sexually with men, "methinks thou protesteth too much" to coin an ancient phrase. lol I'm sure they both lead straight lifestyles but no Kinsey 0 or 1 is going to have as much sex with men as they do no matter how much money they are paid. If they admitted that they get pleasure out of the sex they perform on camera while still living the straight life off camera, I would have bought into it more." - I fully agree.

The best thing for me from the MTV show was the part that involved Vadim Black and Devon discussing their work and their working together. I also enjoyed seeing Mark and Ty getting the shoot worked out over skype. So, the Christmas scene has been in the can since Devon's first week at the studio. You sneaky guys (Mark and Ty) - you saw a great thing and potential from the get-go! My hat is tipped to the two of you!

So, while the MTV "Real Life" show was a "been there, done that" (Tyra Banks a decade ago) for me - it did get me all enthusiastic for December 24th right here on Broke Straight Boys!!!

Happy, Happy Holidays (be it Chanukah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, Eastern Orthodox Christmas or any other such spiritual celebration) to each and every one of you. Oh, and Happy, May-It-Be-Your-Best-Ever New Year, too!

I still feel badly for Vadim Black that he lost his family and the majority of his friends and support system when his porn career came to light. That's a very tough thing for an 18 y/o guy to go through. Heck. It would be tough for a 30, 40 or 50 y/o. Tampa - I agree with you. I hope his revealing that the pills he takes are not even legal in the U.S. That could get him in trouble. But then, perhaps he used them as "props" to support his straight orientation means he couldn't perform without them rather than say he can get it up no matter what. I rather hope that is the case and he is not truly taking 3 or 4 pills a day when they come with an advisory of no more than 2 at most. And why not Viagra or Cialis which he can get prescribed by his doctor - and they are legal. I'll go back to Mikey's word - contrived.

When I lived in Nashville my neighbors were a young couple who had the cutest, gayest son one could ever meet! (My assessment, not his parents'.) Justin would come over and ask about why I chose certain plants and flowers and how I could place them in a garden bed and make them always look so "pretty". When his dad put up Christmas lights on the house he was so excited. I put mine up that weekend and he and his dad came over after they were first lit up and I was out admiring my handiwork and he told me I needed to teach his dad how to make their home look "awesome", too. Big, brown gay eyes stared up. His dad just laughed and said maybe he did need a lesson. I took a line from "Boys In the Band" and said, "Well as it's been said, "Jesus, Mary, you know it takes a faerie to make something pretty!". More knowing laughter.

Little Justin grew up. In August of last year I was in Nashville visiting my friend, Graham. He suggested we go to a gay favorite "Tribe" for dinner and cocktails and whatever else might chance to happen as a result. I went to the bathroom and he went to order our drinks. I arrived back to the bar to open the tab and receive our drinks. The bartender set down our drinks, I gave him my card and shortly after the bar back boy returned my card and said, "Well hello, long time, no see!" I almost crapped my pants, had to manually close my lower jaw to shut my mouth. It was Justin. Now 20 years old and "working" the bar and the crowd.

Only I didn't know him as Justin as a grown young man. I knew him as Hunter Page - the porn star!! Long and short of it - he and I met for breakfast the next morning - Graham was not invited but off working his limo service, picking up some country-western singer for delivery to a rehearsal at the Grand Ole Opry. Breakfast turned out to be a three hour chat bonanza during which he told me all about the porn industry in which he became engaged days after his 18th birthday and graduation from high school. He got his start right here in Florida. Yaddah, Yaddah, Yaddah. The reason for telling this is because he told me that during an S&M scene he'd filmed he damaged his erectile tissue and had to be rushed to the hospital. As a result, he cannot naturally get an erection. He uses a drug (I don't know name) that he actually injects into his penis. Even at home if he wants to jerk off! But it is a prescription drug from his doctor.

Maybe Vadim Black could talk with Hunter about that. What a price to pay for being in porn!!

Some very interesting observations and perspectives! I don't have any negative comments to contribute but, I would say that these types of "Real Life" programs do help to remind me how much work is involved for these guys both on and off screen. They must balance their personal lives with what they do as a chosen way to earn a living. It's all about "Entertainment". Weather people choose to interpret what they see watch or hear as "contrived" or choose to read farther into the information they are given, is totally what the individual takes from it. For me, it serves to elevate my appreciation for the folks who do go public and share segments of their lives; for entertainment and scrutiny, it's still something I give them great credit for. After all, if not for their willingness to entertain, I would not be afforded the opportunity to watch! Just like the Broke Straight Boys-TV show, MTV's real life is.....if not scripted in areas, there is definitely some improvisation and acting involved! That's why it's entertainment, for me. Thanks Vadim Black for availing yourself for the sake of "Entertainment". I appreciate you even more now, as a model/person than I imagined!

I watched the MTV program this morning on my DVR and enjoyed every minute of it then I watched Tampa's links. Thanks Tampa . I got a lot of insight from them. I know a lot of people here like 18 yr olds but I have come to the conclusion that the age for porn of any kind should definitely be raised to 21 or possibly 25. So that the guys can experience life before doing porn. Vadim Black and others didn't wait and I really don't think they were ready for the result.

If some of you are wondering about some of Vadim Black's past experiences in life that we allude to in this thread and elsewhere... I think you'll find these BTS videos to most enlightening in seeing Vadim Black in a much more three dimensional way as a fellow human being.

Vadim Black talks about his life growing up in an orphanage in Russia and then miraculously making it to America. Then finding a home in a state that he assumed would be pronounced O-hee-O. :)

In this one Vadim Black comes back to Broke Straight Boys almost like The Prodigal Son (and into the welcoming arms of the staff) after a long and very difficult hiatus from the site.

Here are some of the comments posted on the comment page to this video. I will admit up front that I took the liberty of doing some minor editing of the quotes below...either for the sake of fixing some spelling, or shortening some tremendously long run-on sentences. No words were added nor the meanings of words changed. I felt that the sentiments expressed below were/are quite worthy of sharing.

Welcome back! I did adopt a kid as well. However, I give him unconditional love. I'll support/love him no matter what. I'm truly sorry to hear what happened with your family. That wasn't right. You have a bright future.

Power to you man for coming back. Thanks for performing for us. Just know you're not just a porn star, you're a person. And I'm glad you realize that the fame is hard to cope with, especially at your age. And it took alot to deal with it. Sorry that happened. You've grown up alot and matured because of this experience. You're humble, smart and a handsome guy. Don't let the past hold you back from your success. Glad you got a goal in mind and a future other than porn. You will go far in life no matter what you do. With a look like yours you could do anything you set your mind to. Thanks for opening up to it. Porn isn't what it seems cause it looks too good to be true. Wish you best of luck with your future. You're a role model for the youth. I had friends who did porn. Some took some good things out of it besides money and others it kinda ruined their lives. But that's what it's about. You live and learn. You got a fan base man that are rooting for you if you do or don't do porn. On to bigger and better things man. Best of luck to you. (: With love and respect.

I enjoyed the show; nice to see Vadim Black looking so sexy! Also good to see he and his girlfriend are still together and that she is okay with his work.:001_wub:

As usual I agree with you and would add that I am far more impressed with the changes Vadim Black as made in his speech and his body and the way he handles his career than I was with the whole my girlfriend doesn't know thing. I don't believe that for one second. But I am glad he got the publicity from it.
As for the other guy......GAY!!

Vadim Black looked great. But Please. He is much to short to model suits. It is all entertainment. Did his girl friend not notice the camera?
It was just another reality show.I enjoyed it. Did I believe it? I really am learning to keep my mouth shut.
Kim K started with a porn flick. Now her whole family are rich.Maybe I am just getting more and more jaded.
The more I see and hear the less I believe. Sad but true. But that is just me.

Your're not alone johnny. It's all fake but entertaining anyway.

You say all of that so well Betu. That's where I'm at too. Entertainment is the key word. It's the whole point of the reality tv genre nowadays. A "reality tv show" has always been a misnomer of sorts. Whenever you require cameras and a staff of strangers standing around the participants of the show, you are going to get some acting, probably even re-takes or re-creations of prior off-camera conversations just to be able to keep the audience in the loop of what's going on. Otherwise you have gaps and holes (in the audiences' minds) as to why people are behaving and reacting to each other in certain ways. Reality tv becomes a blur between reality, acting, playing to the cameras and the entertainment value of all of the above.

I didn't go into it expecting a hard-hitting 60 Minutes documentary. Going into it I knew that some of the stuff presented might be contrived or overly dramatized for the sake of the cameras. So I was prepared to be skeptical and take some things with a grain of salt. I did want a chance to see a different side of Vadim Black and how carried himself in real life off of a porn set. And I feel I did get that. So I'm quite happy. :)

As long as you have a stranger holding a camera and mic next to you, you're not going to behave exactly like you normally would if you were alone. But still, I did learn more about Vadim Black, Devon, Vadim Black's girlfriend and just a little more about Vadim Black's life today. So I came away pleased. I'm very happy that Broke Straight Boys and two of its models have gotten attention on a nationally televised tv program. It was also nice seeing Mark and Ty on the show. :)

Thanks guys. Been eons since I've watched any thing on MTV. Watched Real World until it got ridiculous in my eyes. Same with Road Rules. Liked Spyder Games and loved Daria. First and foremost loved TRL with a young Carson Daly. Had a bit of a crush.

Don't know what this show is but will watch to see Vadim Black. Thanks again, Betu and Tampa.

Iam the same way stowe1 i loved old MTv and wish it would come back so badly !!!!! I am a 90's kid at heart!!!!

I think Vadim Black has outgrown Broke Straight Boys But he is being good to them for taking him back in the beginning. He is working with the most beautiful boys.
On beautiful sets. He must be a good guy. I don't think they are stealing our boy.
I just think he is moving on up. And is staying true to the small site that started him out.

Very well said Johnny. With a body and face and his personality i can see him going far in any he sets his mind too!!
