As
Broke Straight Boys has many new members, some who are just discovering
Mike Robbins, I wanted to add a bit of perspective on Mike's
Broke Straight Boys career, from someone who "has been here forever".
Mike was one of the truly straight tops on the site, who tried bottoming in one scene and was in pain and ended the session prematurely and never would allow it to happen again, which pissed off many of the members of the forum at that time, who felt that all he was doing was the "same thing" over and over again in all of his scenes. In fact he became very unpopular with many members who complained that he kept coming back to just collect a paycheck, and they were bored with his one-sided performances.
During the
Jimmy Johnson era here during the first year of BSB2, when many forumites were complaining that Jimmy would not get fucked, did not like to kiss, insisting on his being a straight man, and they felt that he appeared way too often, to which I commented that we went through the same kind of comments regarding Mike. Both became polarizing figures here, as the masses complained that they were not doing their share of the "work load" by just receiving the pleasure, as if performing in gay porn is the same as working in a factory. I totally disagreed with the premise, and the criticism of both performers, as I see no problem with clearly defined roles in gay porn of strictly tops and strictly bottoms, for as we all know that is the way it often is in real life too, but I know I'm in the minority on that issue, as we still hear similar comments on the forum today, from those who insist that everyone has to bottom to keep returning in new scenes.
I was very unhappy when David informed us on the forum that Mike refused to "re-invent" himself, (David's words) and that Mike would no longer being appearing on
Broke Straight Boys Mike who had a very popular thread on the forum came on to tell us the same thing, and that it was his last forum post, as he had been fired, and he was very bummed out.
I wanted to put Mike's
Broke Straight Boys career into perspective, and to inform the newer fans that Mike's passing came not at the peak of his performing career here, but after he had been let go by the company, due to his refusal to compromise what felt comfortable for him to do here. I for one always respected his courage of his convictions, and while I understand that he had his demons in life, which possibly lead to his early demise, I respected and loved
Mike Robbins very much, and in fact I feel teary eyed right now as I type this sentence.
I love you and I miss you very much sweet dear Mike.
